From the wacko conspiracy theorist website you linked to:

"As for the public, if fluoride could be introduced as a health-enhancing substance that should be added to the environment for the children's sake, those opposing it would look like quacks and lunatics."

Just sayin'…

This summer they are scheduled to vote on whether or not to fluoridate the water supply. The board and their staff were given 20 copies of a 75-minute cd of doctors explaining the history, origin, and health hazards of this toxic waste. Doctors included John Lee, John Yiamouyannis, and Phyllis Mullenix. The audio is posted at the website http://www.MaeBrussell.com. Just go to the bottom of the homepage.

If people were to burn a cd of that audio and spread it around (especially to churches, schools, health food stores and health clubs) you might find it very effective in waking up the public in your area. Good luck.

You are right about mouth rinses and fluoride – some have fluoride and some don't. For example, Scope does not contain fluoride and is therefore mainly used to combat bad breath. I recommend using a mouthrinse WITH fluoride (to strengthen your teeth) and withOUT alcohol (which tends to dry out your gums) such as ACT and Crest Pro-Health Rinses. I wouldn't be concerned about the decrease in fluoride in the community water – the amount of fluoride in your city water will still be present in an amount which has been proven in the scientific literature to prevent tooth decay, but will also try to prevent people from getting those little white spots on their front teeth from too much fluoride (fluorosis).

My dad was not one to take us to the dentist unless you had a problem, and I went through some weird phase when I was a "tween" that I didn't like brushing my teeth. I totally credit the water for saving my teeth! I have never had a cavity in nearly 49 years of life, and I know the water is the biggest reason.

With regards to mouthwashes having flouride, there are precious few of them, in comparison to the multitudes of washes that are just for breath and whitening. Most people can afford toothpaste, but too many can't afford any of the extras, including dental care. I hope changing the flouride levels don't make a bad situation worse for those with low income and/or no dental insurance.
