Are you ready for some football (college football that is!)?
It’s football season and what better time to break out a picnic basket for tailgating or inviting a few dozen friends over to watch the game on TV for a great party?
Rivals – Virginia Tech and University of Virginia – are just part of the reason that football is so much fun. A recent discussion with some football fans provided an interesting take on tailgating.
“Our friends absolutely love tailgating and the whole football experience. We have a big kick-off to the season every year at the first home game. We contacted Lisa Granger at Wild Greens Catering to help us make our event special,” explains Laura who is a UVA alumni. “With a variety of gourmet appetizers, pork sliders and apple coleslaw, gourmet cookies, and a collection of team colored dishes and utensils, we were ready to go!”
Laura and her friends packed up their catered items, added a variety of beverages (including some Virginia wines and wine glasses of course), and headed west for the first game.
While their tailgating party took on a bit of a different flair, there are those who love a more rugged event.
“It’s all about the grill when we head for the mountains of Virginia Tech,” explains Nicole. “We fill a cooler with hotdogs and hamburgers and all the fixings. A portable grill and charcoal are all we need. Paper plates, plastic cups, and a stadium blanket set the table. Sometimes we mix it up by taking barbecue, baked beans, and coleslaw. And of course everyone’s favorite beverage is stocked on ice.”
An interesting variation on themes, but both are equally as fun.
There’s an App for That!
James Madison, University of Richmond, William & Mary, and lots of other schools have their own take on the tailgating party. And you can even find a smartphone app to make it more fun. Whether you’re actually at the stadium or at home watching on TV, these apps can spice up game day.
ESPN ScoreCenter app plays the fight songs for U of R or JMU by just tapping your finger and you can get personalized scoreboards and live game details. And the VT app offers an interesting take on the Key Play tradition that is so familiar to VT fans. You can get the official app from VT that offers live streamed games too.
Pinterest has even gotten into the football mania too.
