Alisa Feliciano

Alisa is an amazing mother. She constantly puts her family before herself. She is an awesome friend, marvelous mother and precious wife. Our children are a positive reflection of her time and commitment she puts into parenting. They are extremely well behaved and well-mannered. I am proud of all she does!

Anita Stoudmire

I would like to nominate myself for Richmond’s Supermom of 2010. I am a single mother to three great elementary school-aged children, ages 10 and 7 year old twins. I am also in graduate school full-time at Liberty University pursuing a masters degree in Professional Counseling and I work from home in my own business (making safety products for children) called Travel Safe T-Shirt. I have been an advocate for children’s safety for many years now, and I am also a supporter of the Autism Society because my oldest daughter has Autism and ADHD. My day begins at 6:30pm and does not end until 11:00pm! I am the poster girl for multi-tasking and pride myself on doing many things well! I also believe it is important for every Mom to do one thing every day just for them; so I do carve out a little time each day to meditate and pray as well as read something uplifting. As busy as I am, I truly love all of my “jobs” and I would not have my life any other way!

Anja Hamilton

“From the deployed husband:
My wonderful wife is truly my hero. Her friends call her supermom, although she does not think of it herself. She is the mother of our four wonderful children, ages 2-9. She is able to hold it together while I am in “”harms way”", keep the kids focused on good thoughts, excel at work, help the children with school work, manage children’s social activities, get the older children to Judo practice, attend family functions, attend church, fix minor breakages at the house, stay in contact with my mother and sister for me (as I often cannot), be everyones shoulder to lean on¦ and the list goes on, and on! Oh, did I mention she also works full time as a Firefighter/Paramedic? I am not sure when she finds any time for herself, or even if there is any.”

Angela Johnson

I am nominating Angela Johnson. She is a full time working mother. She is a mother of three, two boys 9&4 and a daughter who passed away March of 2003 by shaken baby syndrome from her child care provider. Since then Angela has been a avid supporter SBS. Angela works as a Underwriting Manager and keeps a smile on her face day in and out. She has been married since August of 1992. Angela’s hobbies are spending time at the lake with her family. Nothing compares to time. This January Angela was diagnosed with Stage 2 Breast Cancer. She has started Chemo treatments which can be very wearing on the body. Through it all, Angela is still one of the most positive people that I know. She still takes care of her family with a smile and does not let anyone see her fears, tears, or any sadness she must feel. Always smiles. Always happiness and always a shoulder for someone else to lean on. I nominate Angela Johnson as a Super Mom for 2010. She deserves it this year!!

Brenda Martin

Brenda Martin is one of the most genuine, kindest women that I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. She is mother to three wonderful boys; Brenda raised all of them to be kind, caring, successful individuals. Brenda’s oldest son, Jimmy, became an angel last year on Mother’s Day after a brave battle with cancer. The loss was devastating to everyone who knew Jimmy, but most of all to his mother. This year has been extremely difficult for Brenda, I would love to see her honored with this award. Please cast your vote for Brenda Martin, a truly deserving mommy.

Brenda Averette

My parents split up 6 years ago, when I was 22. It was hard, and mom never got over the feeling of having failed us–not giving us the family she thinks we deserve. She worked to support herself and my siblings at home. The menial jobs made her miserable; she tried to hide it. Her primary focus was ensuring that we healed. That we still believed in love. Mom runs marathons–a feat that boggles my mind. She’s in better shape than me, has constant and amazing energy, and motivates everyone to live the life she knows is possible. So she quit her job. She was scared but wanted us to know that a happy life was more important than money. She started working as a running coach, and created running groups for women and moms. She’s great at it; she changes the life of everyone she works with. Mom inspired me and my sister, both now entrepreneurs. Neither of us would have taken the leap if not for the example my mom set: “Do what you love, have faith in yourself, never give up.”

Carrie DeLille

My mom, Carrie DeLille is THE SuperMom! I am the oldest of 11 children: 3 biological, 7, adopted, and 1 still waiting in Kyrgyzstan for his adoption to proceed. One has muscular dystrophy, and 2 have cleft palates. Does having 11 children would leave her stretched too thin and skimping on the fun stuff? Nope! 4 of the kids are taking piano, 3 do soccer, 3 take dance, 2 do Young Life Capernaum, and every year my mom takes all the daughters over age 16 on a weekend getaway for bonding time. Despite being in agony, waiting for her son from Kyrgyzstan to come home, my mom never makes us feel less loved. My husband and I have been through a tough year and my mom has been there for us every step of the way. She is my support system; we talk every day and I don’t know what I’d do without her! My mom is the very best mom, wife, grandma, and lover of God. She sets an high standard and I hope one day my family will look at me with the love and admiration I feel for my mom.

image

Christine Shrader

I am nominating my sister, Christine Shrader. She’s a single mom of 2 wonderful boys. She’s an amazing mom who works very hard to give them many wonderful memories. She makes sure they are provided for, taken care of and are involved in their different interests, often having to get them to 2 different places at the same time. Her boys are her life. I think she’s most deserving of being Richmond’s Supermom because she doesn’t get to “do” for herself. She always “does” for her boys and I think it would be amazing to see her win such a wonderful award!

Cindi Puryear

My mom is a super mom for sure. She has raised three children and is the proud mimi of 2 grandchildren that she spoils every minute that she gets. My mom is loving, caring, Godly woman who puts everyone before herself. While growing up she always worked hard to make sure that we were being raised in a way to eventually be respectful, kind, independent adults. She would take us to church most every Sunday by herself as our dad was working a lot of the time. As our mother she always made each of us children feel special and like we were her favorite child. She tells us that we are each her favorite for different reasons but loves us all equally. No matter what we were doing or involved in she was always our number one fan and supporter never missing an event we were in. Everyone who knows her would agree that she is a wonderful mother to her kids and knows how she considers most of the kids and young adults that she has a relationship with as part of her family.

image

Darlene Cummings

I am Jennifer Cummings, Darlene is my mother, and she has been the best mom anyone can ask for. she had to take on two jobs, 4 kids, and 6 grandkids and she never let that keep her down. I love her and she deserves this award more than i can even say. she loves anyone she meets and never says a bad word about anyone. she has also tried to help so much by taking my brother and his girlfriend and 3 kids in when they needed a place to stay without saying a single ill word about it. she is just the greatest mom any child could ask for and i know i am blessed to have her.

Dawn Peifer

I don’t know where to start as to why Dawn deserves this award. She is an amazing mother. She is a single mom of two, Kimmie, is 8 years old and became blind at the age of 3 months. She has learned everything she can and continues to learn all she can to support Kimmie and help her deal with her vision impairment as best as possible. She has started a foundation for parents with diasabilities,VAAPVI Virginia Association for Parents of children with Visual Impairments. She has started a facebook page to raise awareness. She helped have an easter egg hunt this year for children with visual impairments. The foundation was helped by the bomb squad in VA beach by creating beeping eggs. Her younger daughter Kelsey is full of energy and Dawn ensures that even though Kimmie needs extra attention that Kelsey never feels left out and gives her so much special attention. She has recently become unemployed due to the economy, but that hasn’t stopped this super Mom. She deserves this award.

Deleker Clemmer

Deleker Clemmer is the most amazing mother to our two daughters,Hannah & Makayla. Six years ago, when our oldest daughter was diagnosed with Leukemia, she sacrificed her career to be Hannah’s FT caretaker. With many overnight stay-overs at MCV hospital, doctor visits and rehab sessions, Hannah is now able to independently function after a leg amputation and loss of hearing. She was so inspired by the dedicated nurses at MCV, she recently decided to go back to college and became an RN. Deleker works the all-night shifts so our children will have supervision during the day, homework assistance and supper served at the table before she leaves for work. Deleker is a role model for our kids, graduating Cum Laude. Also, volunteering for ASK (childhood cancer charity) and our church in the wellness ministry with blood pressure checks and blood drives. She always makes time for when Hannah needs to visit oncology or drive down to Shriners Hospital in SC for an overnight visit.

Denise Jeter

My mother is a great caring person. She has three boys (young men) of her own. We are now 22, 19 and 17. She has been through alot in her life. Along with dealing with us, she has had many health issues including a stroke & migraines. No matter what she has been through she always puts everybody else first. She has dedicated 7 years of her life to little league organizations to help with the children. She had to stop doing that because of her health. She has also help many children while doing her volunteering. She has had different children come live with us to help them out. A few years ago she had custody of a teenager who she was trying to help. He was MR & ADHD. She did everything she could to help him. He stayed with us for two years. She has also taking in her nephew when had no where to go. He is now 19. She is a great grandmother to my beautiful daughter. She also helps her nephew with his two children. She has been spending alot of time for the past two years.

Donna Byrd-Headley

When I first heard of this contest, I immediately thought of my mom. She has been the epitome of a “supermom” since I was in diapers and she has never asked for However, as life often does, I became quite busy with school and work and my own little one, and I forgot to log onto this website again. Then on April 9th, a horrible tragedy struck our family : my beloved father to both myself and my 12-year-old brother, and husband to my mom for 31 years, died suddenly and unexpectedly. We have all been left with a hole in our hearts but my mom….well, my mom has shown a grace and a strength and an inner faith that I have never seen before. She’s steady and calm and set aside her own fears and doubts, in order to comfort my brother, me and my daughter with our loss. Nothing will bring my dad back….and nothing will make my mom anymore financially secure for a long time. However, I’d like to reward my mom with some special recognition for not only being a great mom — she’s a supermom.

Erica Stotler

Erica is not only an activists for the Arthritis community but she also struggles with the disorder herself. She’s active in the Twitter community, the non-profit sector and an incredible hands on mother of a beautiful little girl. She’s always helping other non-profit organizations that she feels strongly about and is diligent about supporting local charities. She’s an accomplished writer being published right now on Chronicbabe.com and hooping.org and Hope Care Professionals Live. She received recognition as one of the top 40 under 40 in the October issue of Style Weekly. She is, in my opinion, the perfect example of a woman who boldly mothers and proudly empowers her daughter all while having a chronic illness since the age of eight. She’s amazing.
image

Heather Vaca-Guzman

Heather is the best mom I know. That is all she wants to do is spend time with her daughter and be the best mom ever. She pretty much has a preschool in her living room. Seriously she has a sliding board in her living room. She recently went back to school and it has been a big adjustment for her family. She makes her school schedule around her daughters play dates and all of the other activities she plans for her. Other kids are always asking when they can go over to Mrs. Heather’s house again. She always has plenty of healthy snacks for all of the kids. She is an awesome cook and makes everything from scratch. She is always willing to help out other moms in need of a break or advice.

Janice Crews

Janice Crews is a full-time working mom whose husband is away in Germany for a year. She takes care of 5 kids while still volunteering at their school and her work. She is a nurse who cares for kids 24/7. She also takes care of 3 pets and a big house with lots of space to clean. Two dogs and a cat may not sound like a lot, but you never know how bad they can be. Peeing and pooping in the house are just small issues she handles with the pets. Four of her kids go to a private school, Collegiate, that costs $15,000 a year and one goes to the IB Program at Moody Middle School. She is coping with a senior selecting college, an 8th grader selecting high schools, a freshman, a 4th grader, and a 1st grader. While still dealing with all this drama, she has to cope with how upset she is that her husband is gone for a year. This summer she will have to somehow coordinate supervision for her children while still working all day. This multitude of prizes would be a blessing to the family.

Jenn Kannon

Jenn Kannon is a mother of 3 boys, 12, 10, and 8. She works as a full-time babysitter out of the house and makes wonderful canvas and wine glass paintings for people as gifts, so she can take care of her three boys, while her husband works two jobs, one of which is at night. Jenn has to juggle getting the boys to and from sports. between the 3 of them they are on 5 baseball teams right now, all of which Jenn is the team mom for them and coordinates all fund raising, snack schedules, concession schedules, banner making..you name it!! She volunteers at their school and is the yearbook editor.well let’s say this she is the yearbook this year and stayed up until 4 am on most nights getting it finished, she had to make sure every kid and teacher had a picture..she had to create every layout and take every candid shot for the yearbook. So most days you could see her running around school with Jack(4 month old) she keeps) taking last minute pictures to make sure it was perfect…”

Jennifer Dodson

My sister is a SuperMom because she can balance the world on her shoulders, even when the times are tough. She looks for the best in everything and puts her families needs before hers. She is always there when you need a helping hand. She takes her 2 year old daughter to/from daycare everyday as well as gym class for extra activities. She works all day and take care of the every day life while her husband is working shifts. There is no question asked… she truly is Richmond’s Super Mom.
Jennifer Green

She has worked with our company for over 12 years and is a dynamic leader and top producer with the company. She has two young daughters, Madeline and Hannah and she takes them to their practices for cheer and also for soccer and whatever else they do like dancing. In addition, she even had time to play on the adult soccer team, a first for her not being athletically involved in school. She helped her husband Steve launch a business and somehow, she manages to do everything with excellence. Her daughters are different and she gives them discipline and structure but allows them to see the world and form their own opinions with their own hearts and eyes. She is a likable and fair leader with a wicked sense of humor and her energy is unrivaled. Jennifer is super mom. She has no need to be overbearing or unpleasant in her pursuit of success. She expects it and works for it and her children are walking examples of work ethic and discipline but also individuality.

Jennifer Morris

Jennifer has been a model parent for her two beautiful children. She has also had the added challenge of being the mother of two children with juvenile diabetes which carries with it a whole host of complications. As I watched her family digest the news of their second child’s condition and move through to the present, I was touched by the strength and grace that lies within her. She deserves many votes for this honor.

Jenny Rew

I nominate Jenny Rew for the Richmond’s SuperMom 2010 Award because she is a wonderful mother to her 4 year old son,Matthew. Jenny not only works full time at the hospital, but she is also taking classes to get her masters in Early Childhood Special Education. Jenny is dedicated to her family and to the work that she has to do. She enjoys making wonderful meals for her husband and son when she does not have class. I have a lot of respect for Jenny as I do not see how she holds down the fort with everything that she has to do. I am sure that it can be very stressful at times, but Jenny continues to go above and beyond with all that is required and expected of her. She needs 8 more classes in order to get her masters, which will mean two more years of classes. Jenny is not planning on taking any time off this summer, she will continue with her classes. I’m very proud of Jenny and that is why I nominate her to be Richmond’s SuperMom.

Julia Sichol

My wife is a Commonwealth’s Attorney, in court almost every day locking up criminals and always bringing work home. She then comes home and makes our house run like clockwork, which with two preschool kids is never easy. She does all this with an infectious smile and unending patience. She makes being a Super Mom look easy.

Kaitlyn Putney

I feel like a Super Mom!!! I am a mom of two boys ages 28 months and 9 months and life is just so busy with two boys! I am a nurse turned into a stay at home with them while my husband works his butt off 6-7 days a week to support our family! I also own my own business supplying the medical community with uniforms via Richmond’s Mobile Uniform Store-Specialty Scrubs-and wish I had more time to promote this. I maintain a healthy, busy household, a husband, a cat, a dog, and two boys, find time daily to exercise, check in on my father daily and take him to Dr. Appt’s as needed. I don’t get much sleep-as we all know how most 8 month olds sleep-and when the kids are asleep I am trying to cook, clean and do laundry and organize! Life is very busy for me, but I am so thankful to be able to be here to enjoy it!

Karen Owens

I’m nominating my wife Karen for this award because she is an amazing mom to our two boys. On the day we were celebrating finding out she was pregnant with our second child, she also found out that she had Thyroid Cancer. Even with that diagnosis she never let things slow her down. Even when they were adjusting her meds and she was feeling the effects, she pushed through so that our son never noticed a difference. She approaches motherhood the same way she approaches life, with full force. With both boys she has taken on the role of getting up in the middle of the night with them so that I can be well rested for my job, even though she too has to get up and go to work. She is an active participant in everything our children do, from soccer to baseball to swimming to riding bikes to playing with his toys. She finds way to make sure niether of our boys is left out and ensures that both of our children learn respect and love for everyone. She is an amazing wife, friend, and mother.

Kate Semp

I have never quite met a mom like Kate Semp. Kate has five children, ages 8 and under. While her husband travels and she is alone with the children most of the week, she still finds time to volunteer for the Junior League, Meals on Wheels, and anyone else who needs help. She is the kind of person who takes a meal to a sick friend, even though she needs to head home and feed her own five little mouths. Kate also finds time to share her experiences in parenting with other moms on various blogs and is very honest about all of the challenges of motherhood! Kate is a positive influence for other parents and truly inspires the women who know her.

image

Kathryn Wiley

Kathryn is a wife and mother of four GREAT kids (7,6,3, and under 1) and is an inspiration to me. Not only is she a great mom to her own children, she is a support and encourager to others. Very close to Kathryn’s heart is adoption, as two of her children are adopted. She helps connects the resources to those families going through the arduous process. She also is involved in organizations via church and globally that help support the children as well, such as New Hope Haiti Mission. Whether it’s her children, friends, or the world, she shows so much love and light that you just can’t help but want to be around her.

Katy Underdown

Long before Katy was a mother she was a caregiver. She left her job as a teachers aide in a special needs class room at a Hanover County elementary school to become a full time mom to twin girls, Kendall and Keelyn. Not only is she a full time mother and wife but she is very active in her church, singing in the praise band. She also sings back up in her husbands Christian based band. Katy is about to start a new adventure returning to school to become a nurse. Somehow Katy has been able to nurture her friendships and her relationship with God while remaining one of the most patient and caring mothers I have ever had the privilege of seeing in action! If there is someone deserving of this honor it is Katy!

Kiley Roland

Kiley Roland is the most incredible mom that I have ever met. Kiley and her husband Shane have four gorgeous and kind children. Their kids range from the ages of nine to one. Anyone who meets Kiley knows instantly that she is Super Mom! Kiley not only gets four kids fed (incredibly well) dressed and cleaned up; she makes time to play with her children. She will arm wrestle, do crafts and cook with her children regularly. Kiley has been known to show up at school with warm bread or cookies for her kid’s teachers. We often joke that she is actually a robot inside a beautiful protective cover. Kiley is the den mom for her son’s Boy Scout troop. She also is her church’s activity coordinator and helps other families have as much fun as her family does. Kiley inspires others to be Super Moms too and gives wonderful advice about the joys she has learned about motherhood. She somehow finds time to be a super friend and super wife as well. Kiley is already a Super Mom, and deserves this honor.

Kristen Franson-Vithoulkas

Kristen is the epitome of “Super Mom”…the type of mom all of us strive to be in our wildest dreams! She is kind, loving, compassionate, an extraordinary teacher, patient, tireless, selfless, etc. Kristen has 4 children ranging from almost 2 years to 12 yrs old. From infancy she begins the nurturing process taking every opportunity to “teach” through exploration and exposure to new experiences daily. She is actively involved in their preschools, elementary and middle schools. She has served/led numerous committees from International night to Destination Imagination coach to Greek school teacher and many more! No matter what the volunteer opportunity, Kristen will be there…possibly with a baby strapped to her for hours on end. Even with all the hours she spends volunteering, she manages to get a nutritional dinner on the table every night when many other moms succumb to fast food. She does it all with a smile – even when she is not feeling well. It’s time she gets pampered!

Kristi Phaup

Kristi Phaup should be Richmond’s SuperMom 2010 for lots of reasons. 1. She is a mom of two boys, ages 15 and 8. In her role as a mother, she makes lots of sacrifices for her kids, raises them as respectable young men and is very involved in everything they do. 2. Kristi works full-time during the day, and still makes time for college to pursue her degree. To note, she maintains a 4.0 average. 3. In addition to work and school. Kristi is, and has volunteered countless number of hours in volunteer positions such as PTA VP, Recreation Associations Team Moms, Volunteer Coordinators, High School Sports Boosters VP, and simply volunteering whenever someone asks. You can always count on Kristi to help you out. 4. Kristi is a good friend that would give the shirt off her back. She always makes sure other kids are taken care of and that nobody is left out. I can’t think of anyone that works harder and sacrifices more than Kristi – she should win this award hands down.

Kristine Anderson

Kristine Anderson deserves to be SuperMom of the Century as far as I’m concerned. She is a kind, loving and supportive woman. She never puts herself first with anything when it comes to my sister and me. Although we are both grown up and living on our own now, my mom is always there to cheer us on, or bring us back to reality in some cases. I was diagnosed very young with Systemic Lupus. Through years of financial and educational sacrifices, she has helped me achieve my dreams of higher education, home ownership and independence. Most recently, on March 17th, 2009, my mom gave me her kidney when I needed a transplant. I didn’t have to wait for a donor. This is a humbling experience, knowing that my mom was willing to potentially sacrifice her own health to save mine. How many children can say that their mom gave them life twice? A year later, I have my ups and downs with my health. She is there, cheering me on. God has blessed me with the most selfless, loving mom in the world.

Leslie McGuinn

My wife deserve to be SuperMom 2010 because she does everything to keep our home running and our children taken care off. I work weird hours and so she does most of the child care and I don’t tell her nearly enough how wonderful and great she is. She has had a hard time this last year with most recently losing her dad, but even still she goes on and takes care of me and our kids. She is a SAHM and our oldest child is a special needs child and she is on top of everything from meetings for her IEP to doctors appointments. We all love her and thing she is a SuperMom. Not only is she a full time mom and wife but she is also a full time college student. She is room mother for our daughters class. Our two children are 7 and 1 and she manages to volunteer at the school, attends PTA meetings, girl scouts, field trips and much more. She is also a great friend and person. Please vote for her, she really deserves to win.

Lisa Martin

Lisa Martin IS a SuperMom! Lisa worked full-time at a local Richmond marketing firm AND came home to a house with two teenage kids! I still don’t know how she did it :) When Lisa and I connected on Twitter and Facebook, most of her updates involved Four-squaring her locations – choir practice, baseball playoffs, swim meets, ballet recitals. Her updates made me tired just reading them! Yet she was always joyously cheering on her kids. Despite constantly go-go-going for her devoted family, Lisa remains consistently positive. In the office, we could hear Lisa’s laugh from across the floor, her cheerfulness on Mondays was envied, and I always enjoyed having personal conversations with her. She offers the best advice to a young married woman – she freely offers insight that others may withhold. I am so grateful to know Lisa and anyone who crosses her path would feel the same. I hope to one day BE the SuperMom that Lisa already is!!

Lisa Goodwin

I’ve known Lisa since 2001,just after her first child,Connor, was born.Soon after her second child was born,Connor was diagnosed with leukemia.Prior to this diagnosis,Lisa was superwoman- an attorney,President of the Barksdale Theater, and working hard at being a great mother. Many mothers would retreat into pity and anger, but Lisa attacked Connor’s cancer with great energy, working through a difficult health system.Connor is a healthy boy.In fact,he is somewhat of a celebrity at events and on TV.Lisa then founded Connor’s Heroes, an organization to assist families and kids who’ve been diagnosed. She works tirelessly for these people- planning events, gathering donations, visiting with families, and creating a viable board-lead organization.Lisa is a role model as a mother- she has a great family, two wonderful and healthy kids, and daily gives to others what she has learned. She is truly helping other moms to get through a bad time, thus allowing them the courage to also be a Super Mom!

Lisa Van Riper

When I first met Lisa, I couldn’t keep up with this fiery red head that had such an exuberant and larger-than-life personality. Between her job as AVP of Communications of UofR and serving on several prominent community Boards and as a mentor and instructor at UofR and VCU – Lisa and her husband, Dave, have the time and energy to raise a wonderful little girl named Lily. Lily is a 5yr old brown eyed, sun kissed force of nature. I don’t know how Lisa handles the fact that Lily is a budding dancer; soccer player; computer genius; literary critic and future Olympic gymnast. For all those other parents out there, just picking one of these hobbies could be challenging enough, but Lily does them all. It’s tough to be a parent who embraces the role of community volunteer. But Lisa does this admirably, amazingly and willingly. Of course Lisa doesn’t do this alone, it would be next to impossible, but if anyone can do it, it would be her, because you know – she is Supermom.”

Lisa Ann Setchel

Lisa is an amazing & talented mother of two! She works for a section 8 facility with seniors. She plans activities for them, even finding speakers to educate the group on important health issues. Her youngest child has autism. Lisa stays on top of her child’s diet & activities religiously. Her eyes just gleam when you listen to her speak about them. Lisa enthusiasm for life & fun, amazes me. She is always trying to drag me to charity events! I am so glad to have meet this incredible mom and she is so deserving of the title SUPERMOM! I hope you will join me in voting for her.

Lori Eggleston

One of my dearest friends, LoLo (affectionately called), who recently celebrated her 35th birthday, is juggling her family: Husband, Tom & 2 girls, Mallory (4) & Campbell (2) and her own business: Stripes & Polka Dots, www.stripesandpolkadots.com, and still finds time for cooking, cleaning and her friends! She grew on the South Side of Richmond, VA and is a college graduate of Longwood (with Honors). As a MOMprenuer, she possess creativity that exceeds most’s expectations and a drive that keeps her up late at night (after the girls are in bed) to make her unique items that are sold on-line. She would love to have a storefront, as her line of items has grown from children to moms, sisters, friends, co-workers. While the days can be long and stressful, she always sees her girls off to school and tucks them into bed (and the moments in between) and always lights up a room with her smile and laugh. I have had the pleasure of being her craft helper, fellow mother & her FRIEND!

Meghann Johnson

Meghann is my sister. She has always provided the comic relief in our family. Four years ago, she got married to her college sweetheart, and a year later she became a mother. As I have watched my sister raise her two kids over the last years, my admiration for her has increased ten-fold. In addition to her family responsibilities, she is in her second year of nursing school. Prior to nursing school, she served as a school counselor. As a child, she always reached out to others to make them feel welcome. She has an amazing love for people, a heart to serve, and wisdom to be positive in all circumstances. Despite several challenges over the last few years, she has maintained her humor, her faith, and her positive attitude. This is the reason I am nominating her Richmond’s SuperMom.

Melanie Griguts

With each passing day my wife, Melanie, proves why she deserves the honors. We are currently enduring the biggest hardship imaginable, a premature infant in the NICU who possibly has cancer. Melanie, having endured a complicated c-section only a week ago, has been MY rock, so strong and positive that it is impossible not to feel optimistic. Through all of her physical and emotional pain, she never complains, and somehow keeps finding the strength to give loving “mommy time” to our adoring 3 year old son. She keeps her focus not on herself, but on what she feels matters most…her family. Our anniversary, which was April 16, was spent in the hospital, yet, there was never any complaint or feeling of love lost between us, because Melanie is that rare, truly special lady who makes the best of any situation. I don’t know what I’d do without her, and and so glad that she is my wife and the mother of our children. Please help me reward this truly special, truly deserving woman.

Melissa Borden

Melissa is the quintessential Mommy. She would do, give, and sacrifice anything for her family. Her life as a stay at home mommy is a whirlwind of activity year round. She never stops discovering weekly events for her two beautiful children. From museums, to play-dates, to parks, she takes them to every kid friendly event she can find, and on the days she can’t find events the kids always have some type of craft to keep their minds busy and entertained. Recently, due to a job change, she’s been separated from her Husband while he works a few hundred miles away. She has continued her breakneck pace despite being sole caretaker for the kids all week long 24/7 without outside help. I can’t think of a better person for a SuperMom award, or who deserves to be pampered more. She has selflessly given of herself above what should be expected of even a SuperMom, and I love her more and more every day for it.

Michelle Garrett

My wife, Michelle Garrett, is the perfect candidate for Richmond’s 2010 Supermom Contest. Michelle is the patient mother of our Daughter Virginia Varn (pronounced Varn-yay) Garrett. Our daughter, V.V. for short, is a wonderful child who has some special learning needs. While V.V. is a very smart child, specialists agree that she had developmental delays which have necessitated early intervention. V.V. has regularly seen professional childhood educators since she was 18 months. She’s 25 months old now. V.V. has made miraculous advances. Michelle has been tireless in first getting V.V. diagnosed and then working with V.V. daily once the diagnosis was made to help her overcome. Michelle has poured her life into our daughter, and the results are clear to everyone around us. It is impossible to overstate the contribution my wife has made to the life of our daughter. It is for this reason and countless others I nominate her for this award.

Michelle Pearson

Pamela Minter

My mom deserves to be Richmond’s Supermom winner because she is always thinking of everyone esle and never herself she always sacrifices for me and my brother putting our needs ahead of hers. My mom is a 5yr breast cancer survivor, when she was diagnosed I was 9 years old and really did not understand what breast cancer was and how you could die from it. When I realized what could have happened I am grateful she is still here with me and my brother. In 2006, our family had another challenge, my brother was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, if my mom had not paid attention to the symptoms and kept pesting the doctor to check my brother, he would have ended up in a diabetic coma. No matter what challenge my mom has to face she does it with grace. I am blessed to know and have such a dedicated mom.

Penny Ellick

Thank you for listening and reading and I hope You pick Penny Ellick.

Rebecca Wood

My nominee is Rebecca Wood. She is a super mom of one and expecting her second. When my son was 16 he dated her and I fell in love with her immediately. Last year my son passed away and even though she and he broke up years ago, she came back into my life and has helped me immensely to get through this horrible time in my life. She is a great mom and also a teacher at Varina High School. She is always going above and beyond for her students. She was nominated for Henrico County teacher of the year which she did not win. I would love to see her win this. She is not only a great mom and human being but she is a SUPERMOM.

Renee Holloway

My mom Renee is the best mom anyone could ask for. She is the rock of our family. She works full time, takes care of our family and helps others. How she finds the time to all these things I do not know. When one of her children are in need she finds a way to help them out. She will give the shirt off her back to help someone in need. She is often the back bone that holds our family together.

Robin Huneycutt

I am nominating my wife, Robin Huneycutt, because she is demanding, bossy, persistent, authoritative, and I love her more than anything because of it! She is the best mother I could have ever asked for our four-year-old daughter. She suffers from chronic daily migraines every single day, but she always has a smile for our daughter. Her heart is as big and as bright as the sun, and she would move the heavens and earth in order to make sure that our daughter is taken care of despite any amount of pain she may be in. I’ve never met someone as loving and caring as Robin, which was one of the many reasons I married her. Every child she encounters is treated as if it was her own. Her love knows no boundaries.

Sarah Pless

My wife Sarah is truly the most deserving of this years award. She is absolutely without a doubt the most loving, dedicated, focused, and driven wife and mother that anyone could ask for. She works full-time,she is a full-time student, she is a wonderful mother to a very high maintenance soon to be 2yr old (May 29th),and a wife to an even higher maintenance non-driven,non-focused husband (me). I have scratched my head trying to figure out how she does it, she even ran her first 8k this year. I could never do half of the things she does,I am out of breath just saying it. Please vote for my wife to win this contest if for no other reason this would be a huge step in letting her know how much she is loved and appreciated. Oh did I forget to mention that she is pregnant with our second girl (due in August)?

Sharon Drescher

Because of the graceful way she has dealt with unexpected family struggles in her life recently, it is my honor to nominate my friend Sharon Drescher for the 2010 Supermom Award. Sharon’s son Robbie, 14, was born with a hemangioma,an abnormal build up of blood vessels, in his chest. He led a perfectly normal life until last year when it began eroding his spinal cord. It was causing problems that had to be repaired and during the surgery to repair the spinal cord, Robbie became paralyzed from the torso down. He spent months in a rehab facility in Baltimore. He remains positive, is working hard, and is motivated but has a long road ahead of him. Sharon has been with him every step of the way encouraging him and caring for him. In this difficult, life changing situation, she has remained hopeful and positive. Every day life presents frustrations and difficulties and adjusting to these has been extremely challenging. Through good days and bad, Sharon continues to smile, laugh, and inspire.

Sherry Klauer (2 nominations)

Sherry Klauer has had more than her share of obstacles to overcome this past year. After her 6 year old daughter, Reese, was diagnosed with a brain tumor last Jan., Sherry’s world was turned upside down. Most of us would surrender under the stress and fear, but Sherry has persevered. She did this by founding a non-profit organization in her daughter’s honor,ReeseStrong. It helps other families in the Richmond area that have children battling cancer by providing them with financial, emotional and social support. It is remarkable that Sherry has had the strength and kind heart to care for her sick child and selflessly help other families battling cancer. Sherry also always encourages others to sign up for the ASK events.I have had the pleasure of personally getting to know the Klauer family. They have changed my life forever. It is rare to find a woman like Sherry Klauer and when we do come across such an exceptional woman, we should honor her compassion for others.

When her 6 year daughter Reese was diagnosed with a brain tumor in January of 2009, Sherry Klauer was thrown into a new world. When Reese suffered a severe reaction to the surgery and they were told she would have a long road to recovery, Sherry channeled all her energy and strength into helping Reese recover. From every day Mom, she turned into “SuperMom” – trading off shifts at the hospital with her husband and keeping life as normal as possible for her other two children, Rhett and Wade. Sherry is an amazing cheerleader for Reese and is herstrongest advocate, her best friend and her constant motivator. Sherry doesn’t just live life now – she lives it “ReeseStrong”, channeling all that energy that her daughter put into recovery into life and helping others. Sherry balances the real world and the cancer world with grace and an amazing positive attitude. She’s not just Mom to Reese, Rhett, and Wade – she’s SuperMom!

Susan Teerlink

Susan Teerlink should be the Richmond Supermom because she is amazing. She always puts someone else first. Other than being a mom of 2 teenagers and 2 young adults, she works for GRASP which is career counseling for kids going to college. In GRASP she helps kids with applications and to determine which schools they should apply for. She also finds scholarship opportunities.Susan is loving and caring. Every morning during the school week she gets up at 5:30 to drive teens to seminary, a morning scripture study class. She packs lunches for her two teenage daughters and is always happy. She helps Bethany, her youngest daughter, with her violin and flute. She has to put up with hormones and senioritis. Susan is in the Atlee High School Band Boosters as the “uniform mom”. This means she gets to have people try on uniforms for Marching Band and Wind Ensemble then make necessary adjustments. She also is the Sunday school teacher for adults at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Suzanne Shaia

Suzanne has three young children and seems to always have time for family. You can call her anytime day or night and she is willing to help you. From babysitting to running errands she is always there. I can’t tell you the numerous times she has dropped everything to help me with things. She even came over one night after I had my baby (who is 8 months now) because I needed some help with breastfeeding. I always call her when I have a question about my baby and she always has an answer. She is always prepared for anything and her children have so much fun with her. She always drops cookies, breads and more off at Mom’s house on a regular basis. She may be the only one I know who is at every Sunday family dinner and Saturday breakfast. I don’t know how she does everything she does and still manages to have a spotless house. She will do anything for her children or anyone else’s.

Tamara Tatum

Roses are Red, Pollen is Green, Tamara is the most amazing Mom I’ve ever Seen. She is called wife, daughter, R.N., driver, chef, and Sunday School Teacher, I’m a genius for telling her “I Do” in front of our Preacher.
She drives our 3 children to school, guitar, baseball, softball, ballet, piano, and the pool, and somehow remains the parent our kids’ friends describe as “COOL”. I’ll end by asking you to vote for Tamara as Richmond’s SuperMom 2010, realizing I am the true “Winner” because I get to call her “Best Friend”.

Terrill Hibbeler

The above name is my wife. She is a wonderful Mom. We took in our two oldest grandkids b/c their birth mother, our oldest, thought it was in the best interest of them. Also, she does other things for the kids in our county. After dealing with our two pretty much by herself for the past 6 years, I feel that she is most deserving of this prestigious award.

Theresa Sirles

Theresa Sirles is more than just a mom to her two small children. She is a mom that believes that all children deserve a safe, healthy start to life and that their mothers and families have the support that they need. I have never met anyone like Theresa. She inspires those around her to make a difference in a child’s life and make a difference to a family’s life. She has recently started a non-profit organization called “Because We Are Sisters”. She recently won a Pepsi Refresh Grant for her organization. This organization brings people together to help expecting mothers with basic needs and support during and after pregnancy. So, you see, she isn’t just a mom to her children, but to all children. Please take a moment and check out the “Because We Are Sisters” website at www.BecauseWeAreSisters.com She puts others needs before her own and has such a HUGE heart! There is just no limit to what she can and will do for others!

Tina Sharpe

After raising three children, two sons who served in the war and a daughter who graduated from Virginia Tech, Tina learned of a great niece living in foster care in Alabama. Despite the fact that she was going through a tough divorce and she was caring for her ill parents, she immediately began classes and took the child into her care. As it would turn out, there was a much greater need than she expected and almost immediately her home was filled with the laughter of THREE more children (at the time, all under the age of 5). Sadly though, both of her parents passed away just months later. To this day, court case after court case, she has maintained legal guardianship of her great niece and adopted one of the three boys. It is her passion to be a mother that these children can count on and learn from when all else has been stripped from the only world they have even known. She provides to them a source of strength and encouragement to grow and develop into all that they can be even though they all struggle with emotional problems. Tina’s health is at risk with ongoing knee problems but she continues to take care of the children without complaints. Due to the demands of foster parenting four children, she had to give up her profession as a photographer for Sears Portrait Studios of 29 years which has left her without health insurance for herself, limiting her abilty to get the surgery that she requires. In addition to all of this she still manages to volunteer in her community (soccer coach, giving programs, and helps out elderly neighbors). She is an amazing mother.

Treina Owen

I am nominating my wife Treina, who is the most dedicated, selfless, and giving woman I know. Treina has been diabetic for several years and when our daughter was diagnosed at the age of 5, she began dedicating her life to ensuring the proper care and knowledge of diabetes to all around. My wife has continuously been giving her life to making sure our daughter, and the whole family, stays healthy and participates in every juvenile diabetes program that she can find. She works a full time job, attends school full time, volunteers w/the juvenile diabetes foundation, participates in PTA, helps w/school fundraisers, directs the choir at church, sells Avon, and runs her own small wedding/event planning business called DreamCreations by Treina. Her day involves driving our 2 children (9 and 13) to school, 8hrs of work, help the kids with homework, cook dinner, make breakfast for the next day, pack lunches, her own homework, and finally bed. She works so hard helping our kids and making sure I am okay that she doesn’t have time to herself. Even after all of this she is desiring to give more of her time into us having another baby! She gives of her self and doesn’t look for anything in return this award is just a great way for me to show her that her dedication to our family is never unnoticed.
