Join the 5 Day Challenge to Save Starving Children http://richmondmom.com/2011/05/16/join-the-5-day-challenge-to-save-starving-children/ http://richmondmom.com/2011/05/16/join-the-5-day-challenge-to-save-starving-children/#comments Mon, 16 May 2011 14:36:56 +0000 http://richmondmom.com/?p=7378

Join the 5 day challenge and feed starving children!

Richmond mom Nicole Unice is putting her money where her mouth is!

Last year, Nicole put a $1,200 dent in the fight against world hunger with a simple idea and a blog post. Now she wants to raise the bar and raise $25,000 to provide healthy meals and clean water for millions of children who are hungry every day.

As a mother of 3, she has plenty to do — but she is taking on this challenge and has now come up with a great idea to change the world. In February of 2010, she extended a challenge to her blog readers:

For just 5 days, eat like the bottom economic half of the world which includes plain oatmeal for breakfast, small portions of beans and rice for lunch, and beans, rice and a tortilla for dinner.

The idea was to take the money normally spent on food and groceries and donate it to Feed My Starving Children, a non-profit hunger relief organization. She and her friends raised $1,200.

Now the challenge is HUGE! Many of her church family and friends have already accepted the five-day challenge for “Meals With Hope”. But she needs our Richmondmom and Grandmom readers too!

About Feed My Starving Children

This is an organization that distributes culturally-neutral nutritious meals to nearly 70 countries through more than 90 missions and humanitarian agencies. Every day, hunger claims the lives of nearly 18,000 children and 5,000 children die from water-related illness. This non-profit organization strives to make a difference and save lives.

Join the Challenge

Join Nicole Unice and her friends in the 5 day challenge. Nicole also suggests donating funds from Starbucks, lunches out, or by restricting your food intake to only what you already have in your house for the next 5 days. Then donate the money you saved to the challenge. She is blogging about this all week to keep you updated on progress so visit her blog to learn more.

Every dollar helps and you can support Nicole’s challenge in many different ways. This is a great opportunity to teach your children about helping others too.

Make a change for 5 days and make a difference for the life of a child forever.

Do you know of a child in the Richmond, Virginia area who is grieving the loss of a parent, sibling, grandparent, or other loved one? Are you looking for ways to support non-profit organizations that offer resources, support, hope, creative outlets, and encouragement for grieving children and families?

Then you will want to hear more about Full Circle and this latest press release:

Press Release, February 23, 2011

Full Circle Grief Center to Benefit from 11th Annual TrePadges Golf Invitational

Full Circle Grief Center (Full Circle) is proud to announce that we have been chosen as a 2011 beneficiary of the 11th Annual TrePadges Golf Invitational in Richmond, Virginia to be held on September 29, 2011 at Independence Golf Club.

About TrePadges

TrePadges is a charitable foundation dedicated to making a difference in the lives of children at risk in the heart of Virginia.  Their foundation focuses on raising money and awareness for those charities in Central Virginia that help children in need.  Since its inception in 2001, TrePadges has raised over $220,000 that has directly benefited kids at risk right here in our communities.

There are many opportunities to support this worthwhile fundraiser, including:

  1. Play in the tournament for only $125/per person (which includes lunch and dinner, an open beverage cart, range balls, green fees and cart, and a free round on Independence’s 9-hole Short Course)
  2. Sponsor a hole, contest, lunch or a beverage cart and share your name and brand with over 100 golfers (Sponsorship Levels range from $250 to $10,000)

Last year’s tournament, held on September 16, 2010 at the Independence Golf Club, was a huge success and we look forward to even greater success in 2011.

About Full Circle Grief Center

Full Circle was incorporated in September 2008 as a comprehensive grief resource center in the Richmond area to help meet the needs of grieving children (ages 3-18) and their families. We are a quickly growing organization, dedicated to children and families who need that long-term, professional support as they work through their grief. We use creative expression to enable children to share their worries, fears, anger, sadness, and many other emotions that come along with experiencing the death of someone significant.  Our Center is located in Henrico County, with a satellite group counseling site in the Northside of Richmond City.  In addition, we offer our counseling groups in inner-city schools in our community.

The mission of Full Circle is to provide children and their families with creative ways to express their grief and remember their loved one.

The Center provides hands on healing for grieving children and their families through counseling services, remembrance programs, and educational support. We believe in the power of the group process, that creative outlets allow individuals to express themselves in a non-threatening and healing manner, that there should be no barriers for those seeking grief support (i.e. all of our services are offered at no expense to families), and customized services are needed for the entire family.
