Love is love. I lost my companion of 14 years 2 years ago. Today would have been his 16th birthday. I still miss my Chandler like crazy. All I can offer is that over time, it gets to hurt less. Kat,

My Toby is like that. Follows me everywhere. Thanks for telling me about Maddie! -Kat H. Your Star Wars references made me smile. I needed that! I'm so glad Annie and Obi are thriving. Thanks again for your kind words. -Kat Jacqui, thanks so much for sharing your thoughts. I know now that I have come to love my 3 year-old Pomeranian named Maddie so deeply. I am lost when she's simply gone for an hour for her monthly grooming. She is constantly underfoot and I'm constantly talking to her. I have two daughters and 3 grandchildren, but I also count Maddie among my children because I cannot imagine life without her. You are not alone - there are thousands of people who share your love for pets and your loss is great. Allow yourself to grieve and rebuild your life as you retain fond memories of times together. So sorry for your loss. You *are* a mother too! Our fur babies are just as much our children as the non-fur kind. I joke with my husband that if our dog of over 11 years now needs a kidney - he can have mine! As with any loss, I guess it just takes time. I teared up reading this. So sorry for your loss. Then the next day there were only 5, the day after there were 4...she took 2 into her home, while we took the other two kittens. They were so small, we had to syringe feed them and stimulate them...we were up with these babies just as a newborns Mom would be...they were innocent babies, with fur....of course my son had the task of naming these kittens....sex was to be determined, if they made it that long...He chose Anakin and Obi Wan Kenobi (thank goodness we talked him out of Emperor Palpatine!)... Fast forward to today...Annie and Obi (female kitties) are thriving...gone are the fleas, gone are the maggots that infested poor Obi...and our family is complete...1 human boy, 2 girl kitties and 1 baby boy rescued chihuahua mix (how he came to us is a totally different story, still sad).. Kat , I will be thinking of you and your family, just my opinion, but when you decide to bring another baby home, do it on your time....I am sure when you see that kitty, you will know! continued comment

Pets come into our lives for a reason. Some (most) bring love and acceptance, others teach us patience when no one else could. I have a human son, and 3 furry children. Two cats and a dog (all rescued). We had adopted 2 kittens in early 2009....within 3 months, they both were taken away from us - they had FiP...feline peritonitis, it happened overnight - Pika wouldnt eat or drink and was so lethargic...he just couldnt move. we took him to the vet, and the diagnosis came. Tears came. Broken hearts came. We had only had this tiny little baby for 3 months....he was so sick he couldnt even purr. Within a week, his brother, Jinx had the same symptoms. He also passed...it was one of the hardest things I ever had to do....my soon to be 8 year old asked, why did Pika have to die...Holding back tears I tried to explain the unexplainable...we have a grave for them both, my son places flowers on it in Spring. Kat,
