Best Baby Shower Venues in Richmond

When it comes to baby showers, you can’t go wrong with some pink or blue streamers, a non-alcoholic beverage, and a yellow sheet cake with sugary frosting. However, if time and budgets allow, it can be fun to kick things up a notch and take the diaper towers and silly games out somewhere a little more festive. In Richmond, there are ample venues to host a great baby shower, from restaurants to museums to everything in between. Whether you want a low-key brunch or a full-fledged soiree, there’s an option out there for every need.

It was a challenge to narrow down the list of RVA baby shower venues to five favorites. However, we chose to focus on options that offered the following features:

1. Venues with private or separate event spaces
2. Event coordinator on staff
3. Uniquely Richmond settings

With these three traits in mind, we picked five venues for baby showers that will be almost as memorable (and much less painful) than the baby’s arrival into the world. No matter how you choose to celebrate, it’s truly a miracle whenever a new life arrives in our midst. So, whether you get all gussied up and head out on the town or gather barefoot in a backyard, the most important thing is making the parent-to-be feel loved and supported. And diapers. No new parent can ever have too many diapers.

5. The Valentine

Babies may be all about the potential of the future, but that doesn’t mean you can’t celebrate them in a venue rich with history. Located in the heart of the city, The Valentine combines historical details with beautiful surroundings. It’s an elegant option for anyone who wants to shower a parent-to-be in a classic Richmond setting.

Why we love it:
With event spaces that work for as few as 20 guests or as many as 150, the Valentine can accommodate just about any need. There are garden and terrace spaces for warm months as well as chic indoor options. And with a list of preferred caterers, you’ll be able to find a menu that suits even the pickiest pregnant palate. This is a great option for a larger, more formal baby shower. Just make sure to reserve at least 30 days in advance.

4. The Hofheimer Building

This historic Scott’s Addition spot may be a new kid on the block, but it’s quickly proved itself to be a fabulous event venue for shindigs both big and small. With a variety of spaces to suit different needs and event packages ready to go, this is a low-stress option for both the host and the honoree. If you want a unique, funky Richmond spot that is the right mix of casual and memorable, this is a great option.

Why we love it:
An industrial building in Scott’s Addition doesn’t exactly scream baby shower, but if you want a non-traditional gathering that is both fun and relaxing, this is the perfect fit. It also makes for a great co-ed shower, an increasingly popular choice. You can pick from a variety of options, from a stylish lounge to a casual game room to a VIP rooftop section. And with dedicated event planners on staff, your baby shower will get the attention and customization it deserves. After all, every baby is special, so every baby shower should be too.

3. Studio 418

Not all baby showers have to be flowers, pastels, and finger sandwiches. If you’re celebrating a cool, creative parent-to-be, this photography studio/event space makes for a unique alternative. With exposed brick walls, travertine marble floors, and 14-foot ceilings, it’s a striking space that marries both function and style.

Why we love it:
There’s no reason a baby shower can’t be cool. And some parents would much rather enjoy good food and conversation in sophisticated surroundings than play a spirited game of “guess the baby food” over tiny tea sandwiches. This is a great opportunity to ditch convention and throw an alternative baby shower. Chairs and tables are provided, and there’s a full kitchen for guests to use. There are also two ADA bathrooms as well as the option to hire on-site help with set-up and decorating.

Location: 418 W. Broad St., Richmond, VA 23220

This Carytown classic is without question one of the prettiest dining spots in all of Richmond. With its gleaming zinc bar, dark wood accents, intricate tile designs, and twinkling overhead lights, it’s the kind of place that feels special no matter the occasion. And with delicious French food, artisan crafted cocktails and mocktails, a full espresso bar, and all the carbohydrates a pregnant lady could desire, it’s a great spot for a baby shower luncheon.

Why we love it:
Did I mention the carbohydrates? But seriously, aside from yummy croissants and baguettes, Can Can is a great place to host an event in Richmond when you want to add a little sparkle and magic. Plus, private dining rooms with seating for up to 60 allow you to celebrate baby without the noise and bustle of the main restaurant. And with a private event coordinator on staff, you can relax a little yourself, too, leaving all the details, including flowers, custom menus, and specialty linens, to the professionals.

1. Maymont

If there’s any location in Richmond that brings to mind the beauty and promise of new life, it’s Maymont. With its sprawling grounds, vibrant gardens, and frolicking farm animals, it’s a picturesque setting for any baby shower. While lovely year-round, it’s a particularly scenic venue for spring or fall showers.

Why we love it:
Maymont is the perfect venue for anyone who wants a quintessentially Richmond baby shower in a bucolic natural setting. And the historic stone barn, built in 1908, makes an ideal spot for a smaller, more intimate shower. With exposed beams and granite walls, it has plenty of indoor charm to match Maymont’s outdoor finery. And with an approved catering list or the option to bring your own food, it’s a flexible choice for a variety of budgets.

Location: 1700 Hampton St. Richmond, Virginia 23220
