Guide to Apple Picking In The Greater Richmond Area

Apple Picking For many Virginians, fall is the best season of the year. The days are cooler, the nights are crisp and the trees explode into a stunning palette of red, orange and gold. Fall is also the start of one of Virginia’s favorite pastimes – apple picking. As one of the largest apple producers in the nation, we are known for fresh, juicy apples that are perfect for baking, turning into apple butter, pressing into cider or simply eating straight from the tree. And with many local orchards already starting to show signs of a great harvest, now is the time to start planning your apple picking expeditions for the coming months.

Virginia has a wide selection of orchards that offer you and your family the chance to pick your own apples. To make apple picking fun for the whole family, many of these orchards and farms offer a range of apple varieties, as well as other activities, crafts and local food for sale.

For our readers in the Greater Richmond Area, we have made a list of some of the top orchards that can be reached in about two hours or less. Find the ones that work best for you and get ready to start picking!

Know of a great orchard that you would like to see on the list? Be sure to tell us about at cs@richmondmom.com.
