Best Chocolate Shops in Richmond

For those of us with a sweet tooth, chocolate isn’t just a treat, it’s a staple. But the best thing about chocolate?  It’s available in such a wide variety of flavors and styles that you don’t even have to have a sweet tooth to enjoy it.

And of course, with Valentine’s Day just around the corner, chocolate is everywhere right now. However, if you’re a fan of chocolate like we are, then you know that not all chocolate is created equally. Sure, a supermarket standard candy bar is great for a quick fix, but when it comes to special occasions, not just any chocolate will do.

It was with that in mind that we set out to find Richmond’s best chocolatiers. From deluxe handcrafted chocolate truffles to rich homemade fudge, we found a wide range of options. However, there were a few places that went above and beyond when it came to making their chocolate creations.

In order to make our list of favorites, the following five chocolate shops in the Richmond area had to offer some special characteristics. Namely, we looked for shops that offered:

  1. Homemade recipes and small batch production
  2. A wide selection
  3. Unique flavor combinations and creations

And these locally owned and operated shops delivered all that – and more. If you’re looking for the perfect gift to give someone special this Valentine’s Day or just want to treat yourself to a decadent dessert, then try one of our favorite Richmond chocolate shops. You’ll be glad you did – we promise!

And as always, if you know of a place to find delicious chocolates in the Richmond area, let us know. Drop us a line anytime at cs@richmondmom.com.

3. Taylor Made Chocolate

Taylor Made Chocolate began in 2017 as more than a business venture – it began as a mission. Founders Steve and Kim Taylor started their chocolate enterprise as a means of not only creating custom, handcrafted artisan chocolate, but as a way of helping to bring freedom to those affected by human trafficking and slavery. This “bean to bar” chocolate shop begins by buying cocoa beans that have been sustainably grown. In addition, they ensure that their farmers are paid a fair wage as part of their purchasing process. Currently, the Taylors are working with farmers in Haiti, and intend to use their profits to help with reforestation and to improve the overall quality of life for the farmers they work with. Likewise, they serve the local community by giving back to those freed from human trafficking both in Richmond and abroad. Last, but far from least, the Taylors are committed to an allergy free and gluten free production process. Any products that might contain allergens (other than milk) are produced offsite and sealed before entering their store, ensuring that their delicious chocolates are safe and accessible, even for those with severe food allergies. Choose from a wide selection of handcrafted chocolates, truffles, chocolate bars, cakes, chocolate meringues, chocolate covered marshmallows, and more – with vegan options available, too. Find them in the store or shop online anytime.

Where to find them: 241 E Hundred Rd , Chester, VA, 23836
