While we often think of the winter holidays as our biggest gift giving season (and it usually is), there are other times of year that can sneak up on us. For example, May and June are big months for many young people. Not only is summer break just on the horizon, but these months also herald the start of graduation season. For those of us cheering these new grads on, a gift is usually part of the celebration. Likewise, the summer months are known for weddings (and wedding gifts, of course)…not to mention a variety of other parties, celebrations, housewarmings, birthdays, and more. That’s why, no matter what time of year, it’s always good to have some go-to gift shops nearby.
One of the many great things about living in the Greater Richmond area is that we have choices when it comes to just about everything – and that include gift shops. From large shopping centers scattered throughout the region, to small boutiques offering one-of-a-kind items, we have it all. But as you know, narrowing down the options is the real challenge. And so, we’ve done a little digging around to find the best gift shops for everyone on your list – from grads to newlyweds to everyone in between!
To choose our favorites, we looked for gift shops that offered the following features:
- Variety for all ages
- A range of prices
- Unique options
- Gift wrapping and/or online purchasing for easy gift giving
If you’re not already familiar with the following five gift shops in the Greater Richmond area, then all we can say is “you’re welcome!” No matter what your gift giving needs, these gift shops provide an easy one-stop experience. So whether you’re helping to send new grads off to their next great adventure, or just need a special item to give to friends or family, these gift shops have you covered.
A list of Richmond gift shops wouldn’t be complete without The Virginia Shop. If you’re shopping for grads, you’ll find the perfect Virginia-themed item to help remind them of home. If you’re shopping for newlyweds, you’ll find beautiful pieces of Virginia art or home decor to help them start their lives together. You’ll even find a great selection of books, toys, and educational items for kids. Plus, with two locations, one at the Library of Virginia and one at the State Capitol, you’re shopping experience is just that – it’s an experience!
Why we love them: Sure, gift shops with names like “The Virginia Shop” might lead you to believe that your options are limited to Virginia-themed items only. But that’s far from the case here. At The Virginia Shop, you’ll find a huge selection, including art and home decor, cookbooks, clothing, books by local and regional authors, historical items, literature-themed accessories, wine glasses, guidebooks, Virginia food items, and much more. And best of all, many of their items are available online.
This family-owned and operated store came to Richmond via New Jersey in 2004. Since that time, Tweed has become one of the area’s most popular shopping destinations for personalized gifts, clothing, accessories, home décor, and more.
With their latest expansion in 2015, Tweed now offers more than ever, from fun clothing for every age, to Richmond-specific items, to funky housewares. And because they don’t just carry one niche brand, genre or product-style, Tweed ensures that you’ll find a budget-friendly option no matter who you’re shopping for. Thanks to their awesome selection, even if you go in with one gift recipient in mind, you’re sure to find something for everyone on your list – and maybe even a treat for yourself!
Why we love them: At Tweed, finding a unique, uber-personal gift is a breeze. Tweed specializes in personalization with items that can be embroidered, engraved, hand-painted, or vinyled to ensure a truly one-of-a-kind gift. But what really set them apart for us is the fact that you can shop online with in-store pick-up and delivery options so that you’re never left in the lurch when it comes to getting a gift where it needs to go.
