The Coronavirus pandemic has caused many chance throughout state, the nation, and the world. Economies have shifted, work life has altered, and our daily routines have turned upside down. Summer, in particular, presents a challenge when it comes to childcare, continued learning, and, perhaps most significantly, providing kids with a safe, entertaining atmosphere. And for many parents staring ahead at the long summer months, the prospect of summer camp closures is a particularly daunting one. Fortunately, there are a number of camps in the Richmond area that have acted quickly and created virtual summer camps and other creative alternatives for our community.
While not all kids will have the opportunity for traditional camp experiences this year, there are still many ways to provide fun, creativity, and learning thanks to virtual summer camps.
Virtual summer camps offer much of the same stimulation and educational opportunities that your kids would experience in a traditional camp setting, but through virtual methods.
The following camps are our top picks for virtual summer camps. However, if you’re still looking for traditional camp experiences, visit our Richmond Summer Camp Guide to find additional camps in the Greater Richmond area. Be sure to contact the camps directly to find out if they are offering onsite programs.
And remember, like traditional camps, virtual summer camps will fill up quickly, so be sure to visit or contact the following virtual summer camps today to lock down your spot!
In the meantime, if you know of other virtual summer camp opportunities or would like to have your virtual summer camp listed, be sure to let us know at firstname.lastname@example.org!

Elementary – High School
SPEAK is a non-profit organization providing kids in elementary through high school with the chance to improve their presentation abilities. Based out of Richmond Virginia, they work with many communities in the greater Richmond area to assist students in their public speaking adventures. The group, originally founded by high schoolers, has grown tremendously over the years with the help of volunteers who have enrolled over 300 participants in these student-led workshops throughout the country.
In addition to public speaking workshops, they have established a Model United Nations team along with introductory language and writing programs that help students work on their skills as communicators. Although their in-person workshops have been stalled due to the Coronavirus, their mission continues virtually with free virtual workshops to all who may be interested.
Their virtual workshops entail specific public speaking principles through fun activities and exercises. With experienced and trained volunteers teaching the workshops, kids not only learn public speaking skills, but develop confidence in themselves. The online workshops focus on the skills needed to build a speech and offer various delivery tips for Elementary and Middle school students.
