Van Gogh, Manet, and Matisse: The Art of the Flower

This exhibition is the first major American exhibition to consider the French floral still life across the 19th century. Developed from the strong partnerships fostered by the French Regional American Museum Exchange (FRAME), the exhibition is organized by Mitchell Merling, Paul Mellon Curator and head of the Department of European Art at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and Heather MacDonald, the Lillian and James H. Clark Associate Curator of European Art at the Dallas Museum of Art.

CREATIVE CLOTHING CONSTRUCTION FOR TEENS

The focus of this workshop is to give students, grades 6 – 12, the opportunity to create a wearable piece of art that explores cultural trends, nontraditional materials, and fine art processes. Similar to the Project Runway design style, students make wearable art by reconstructing clothing, found objects, and recycled materials. Inspiration comes from the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts collection, artists, and fashion designers. Workshop attendance also gives students a snapshot of the annual Teen Stylin’ runway show held each year in December and open to all teens living in Virginia. This program is presented through the VMFA’s Art and Education Division.
