Commonwealth’s Patriot Day Ceremony

Join the Virginia War Memorial as we present the 5th Annual Commonwealth’s Patriot Day Ceremony, Tuesday, September 11 at 5:30 p.m. in the E. Bruce Heilman Amphitheater.
The ceremony will honor and remember the nearly 3,000 who perished during the terrorist attacks in New York City and at the Pentagon in Arlington on September 11, 2001. September 11 is officially acknowledged as Patriot Day – A National Day of Mourning and Remembrance as designated by the U.S. Congress.
Melvin D. Carter, Chief of Fire and Emergency Services with be the keynote speaker, and music will be provided by the 380th Army Band Brass Quintet and vocalist and instrumentalist, Bethany Gates.
Admission to the ceremony is free. While parking is limited at the Memorial during the current expansion construction, parking will be available in the adjacent VHDA surface lot facing Belvidere Street next door and in the Afton Chemical lot on the corner of Belvidere and Spring Streets. Sailors from the Navy Recruiting District, Richmond will serve as ushers and supervise parking.
