Science After Dark: Volcanoes

June 7, 2019 @ 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Join us for an eruptive evening of science fun! Unearth the science of volcanoes before the opening of “Pompeii: The Immortal City.” Create volcano mosaics, check out a baking soda and vinegar eruption play area, watch elephant toothpaste demonstrations and much more.

Tap into your sense of adventure while you explore three floors of exhibits and then head to The Dome for a special live volcanoes-in-space astronomy show at 6:30 p.m. and 7:15 p.m. Space is limited to the first 250 guests at each show and no ticket is required–just make sure you are at the Dome entrance at least five minutes before the show starts so you can slide in before the door closes…just don’t forget your hat!

Purchase a ticket for the 8 p.m. Dome show because Dr. Jones is back at the Museum for a special showing of the film “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom” (rated PG).

Weather permitting, the Richmond Astronomical Society will be on the front lawn with telescopes letting guests stargaze after the sun goes down.

You’re going to LAVA this fun science-packed evening!

Members get to see “Pompeii: The Immortal City” all day on June 7 before it opens to the general public. Not a member? Purchase your membership now and you can see the exhibit at Science After Dark on June 7! https://www.smv.org/join

Food and drinks, including beer, are available for purchase during Science After Dark in the Periodic Table Café.

Science After Dark admission is $10 for the general public and free for Museum members and college students with valid ID. Admission includes permanent exhibits and event programming. Guests can add the 8 p.m. feature film in the Dome for $5; members may use a Dome pass if they wish.
