How Hail Suppression Systems Work?
A Hail Suppression System is a shock wave generator used to disrupt the formation of hailstones. A gas mixture is ignited in a lower chamber of the device which is connected to a large cone. As the energy is forced up the cone it becomes a shockwave. This shockwave along with heat from the ignited gases travel up into and pass through storm clouds, resulting in the disruption of the formation of hailstones. The device is fired every 6 seconds as the storm is approaching and continues to fire until the storm has passed. Note the System must be fired prior to the formation of hailstones. The system cannot break apart already formed hailstones.
How Much Area Does One System Cover?
One Hail Suppression System covers approximately a 500 meter radius (about 190 acres). For best results the systems should be placed where the storm first enters the area to be protected and spaced out no more than 1km (500m radius) apart. The device needs to be turned on as the storm is approaching and remain on until the storm passes.
