How to Enter (please read carefully, you must complete each step to be entered into the contest.):

1. Register your child(ren) March 1 through March 22nd, 2015.  If you have more than three children you may fill out a second registration.  Register here.

2. To help you schedule your portrait session, Butler Photographic Artistry will reach out to you after you submit your nomination and schedule your FREE appointment between March 1 – April 4, 2015.
Your photo session will take place at the beautiful Butler Photographic Artistry Studio and photos will be available for purchase*. (Hurry! Sessions are limited.) If you would like to call and schedule your appointment you may do that as well:804-744-4700

Butler Photographic Artistry will provide Richmondmom.com with a photo of your child for our website and voting page after you have your photos taken.

3. Voting will begin April 8 – 25.  Spread the word friends, parents, grandparents and get them to vote in the contest.

4. Winner will be determined by most unique votes and announced in our newsletter and on Richmondmom April 29, 2015.  Our grand prize winner will receive our prize package.

*Although it’d be a shame to miss out on the opportunity for a free session and beautiful photos, there is no purchase necessary to enter or win.

Virginia Rep is bringing a wonderful part of Richmond’s history to life with The Maggie Walker Story. 

The Maggie Walker Story

This compelling drama is a tribute to the great American woman from Richmond, Virginia who helped establish and organize the first civil rights strike by black students and became the nation’s first woman bank president. Starting her work at the order of St. Luke, a national savings group formed to pay the burial expensive of poor blacks,Maggie Walker became a powerful force in civil rights. Through this production, students will form a deeper understanding of Maggie Walker and the times in which she lived.

Length: 1 hour
Suggested for ages 7 and up.

The Goddard Schools, located in the greater Richmond area, along with over 400 other Goddard Schools nationwide are launching the TEACH. PLAY. LEARN. campaign. 

Teach. Play. Learn. engages Richmond children from infants to six years old to collaborate and construct a TINKERTOY invention to support The Goddard School’s mission of using the most current, academically endorsed methods to ensure that children have fun while learning the skills they need for long-term success in school and in life.

As part of the campaign, each Goddard School worked together to develop an invention that solves a problem. They created a sketch and description of their invention and built it out of TINKERTOY® parts!

Turns out, the Rhino class in Mechanicsville might send Amazon on a run for it’s money!

The students talked about how other children in our country and the world do not have toys to play with and construction of the “Toysie Toys Deluxe”.

This invention flies around the world delivering toys to those without. It uses its satellite to find the children and the conveyer belt and scooper launcher to get the toys to the children. Equipped with propellers, kickstands, and floaters for landing on water, there is nowhere this “Toysie Toys Deluxe can’t go!

The Toysie Toys Deluxe along with other classroom inventions will be shared online for a public vote.

John Mayer *swoon* is coming to the Richmond Coliseum December 13!

Can we just gush for a minute about how great John Mayer is?
Not only did this 7x Grammy Award winner’s album Paradise Valley, debut as #1 in 4 countries (and top 10 in another 8) but he’s philanthropic too!  In fact, Mayer has been honored by the Recording Academy for his work on behalf of both U.S. military veterans and young people interested in music.

Now, John Mayer is hitting the road again for his first tour after a three-year hiatus and supporting another great cause.  This year, one dollar of every ticket sold will be donated to the Northern California Institute for Research and Education.  This is his second partnership with the organization, bringing music to veterans around the country and supporting veteran’s health research, according to the  NCIRE website.
