Great Backyard Bird Count

Join a park ranger to receive information about Cornell University’s Great Backyard Bird Count, submitting counts on e-bird, common birds seen in your backyard and more. Meet at the Park Office. The program is free, but parking fees apply.

Valentine Bird Feeders

Make simple bird feeders to give your Valentine and the birds in their backyard. Meet at the playground parking area. The program is free, but parking fees apply. Program will be canceled in the event of inclement weather.

Wilderness Survival Skills

Ages 10 and up learn valuable skills to assist them in surviving with limited modern technology in the wilderness. Lessons will include shelter building, fire starting, water procurement, and signaling for help. Register: 804-598-6193.

Home School Nature Program

Join a park environmental educator for fun nature and recreation programs each week. Bring a picnic lunch and stay to play on the playground. There will be lots of hands-on activities to keep kids engaged in experiential learning. Register for each class by calling 804-598-6193.

Feeding Time: Powhatan State Park

Have you ever wanted to see how a snake eats? This informative program teaches you about native snakes and you can even help feed the corn snake. Repeats September 20 and 27.

National Day of Service
