Volunteer Academic Mentors Needed

Academic mentors are needed.

Richmondmoms and Grandmoms – can you help prepare Richmond youth in underserved neighborhoods to be on the college track by the 8th grade?

Higher Achievement closes a persistent achievement gap for middle school students in at-risk communities by providing rigorous after-school and summer academic training within a culture of high expectations. On June 27th, they launch the first Richmond Achievement Centers with 123 Northside and Southside Scholars. This is a monumental accomplishment and they need volunteer academic mentors to succeed.

Higher Achievement is recruiting volunteer Academic Mentors to teach small groups of 5th and 6th graders in a core academic subject: math, literature, or an elective seminar. You receive comprehensive training, curriculum, and support.

You bring commitment and a love of learning!

WHEN: One night per week, Monday, Tuesday or Thursday, 5:30-7:30pm, for 25 weeks (October 2011 – May 2012)

WHERE: (Northside) Henderson Middle School or (Southside) Boushall Middle School

HOW: Click HERE to fill out an application to help close the middle school achievement gap.

With the help of Academic Mentors, 95% of Higher Achievement scholars advance to top academic high school programs and 93% graduate from college.
