Did Someone Say “Harvest Fall Festivals”?

Fall harvest festival is just around the corner.

Yep – it’s almost 100 degrees outside – but that’s a fall harvest pumpkin you see right here on Richmondmom.com. It’s time to start making plans for cooler weather ahead.

First Landing State Park is holding its annual Fall Festival on Saturday, October 15 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. and they are looking for volunteers, exhibitors and sponsors. In honor of the opening of the new Trail Center and to promote the great outdoors, this year’s event will be the best ever with exhibitors and activities at the Trail Center AND the picnic area. That’s a lot more exhibits and vendors for you to enjoy and kids will find plenty to do at this year’s event.

Some possible exhibits and ideas include:

  • Offering canned goods such as pickle, vegetables and others
  • Candle making
  • Making cider
  • Making soap
  • Baking
  • Sewing
  • Pumpkin carving
  • Wood carving
  • Basket weaving
  • Chair caning
  • Woodworking
  • Painting
  • Caramel apple making
  • Making fall colored cotton candy

Exhibit space is free, but products or activities must have a harvest/autumn theme.  It’s easy to tie many skills and crafts into a fun harvest theme.

This event is not a “fright fest”, so no scary Halloween type exhibits are allowed. Sponsors are needed to donate or help defray the costs of pumpkins, hay bales, and craft supplies to make this event even more fun. Volunteers are needed to help with children’s activities and with the information booths so if you have time to give, let them know.

For more information, please contact Kim Miller, Special Events and Volunteer Coordinator at First Landing State ParkKim.Miller@dcr.virginia.gov.

The event is about 2 hours from Richmond near Chesapeake – but it’s worth the drive. Visit the website and mark your calendars now, and don’t forget to contact them if you can exhibit or make a contribution to the festival.

LOCATION: From I-64, take Northampton Blvd.-U.S. 13 North (Exit 282). Go through eight lights, then turn right at the Shore Drive/U.S. 60 exit (last exit before the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel). To reach the Chesapeake Bay Center, park office, camping or cabins, turn left off U.S. Rt. 60 at the stoplight and check in at the contact station. For the Trail Center, picnic area and trails, turn right instead.
