Hogtoberfest, Transplant Games, Food Fests, Auctions, and More…Fall Into October

The first weekend in October kicks off with lots of fun fall festivals, races, games, and more. CJSTUF Art Auction promises lots of fun for a very worthy cause, featuring Susan Greenbaum.  Heart, Health  & Stroke screenings are free at HCA Henrico Doctors Hospital, and kids will love Touch a Truck with plenty of emergency vehicles and more. The first ever Transplant Games are underway on Saturday, October 1 at Clover High School, and the Italian Festival, Hogtoberfest, and plenty of other fun events are in store. Plan your weekend schedule now to take advantage of as many events as possible.

Friday, September 30, 2011 is the last day to enter the Dream Baby Shower contest on Richmondmom.com so register or tell your friends who are expecting a baby.

It Comes in Pink. This is our 3rd annual event and will be held on Friday, Sept. 30th at the Children’s Museum of Richmond from 7PM – 11 PM.  It will be a beach theme this year with fun music, good food and a silent auction.  Tickets can be purchased at www.itcomesinpink.org and are $45 each.

6th Annual Breast Cancer Survivor Celebration. Please join us at The Jefferson Hotel on Friday, September 30 at noon to celebrate with breast cancer survivors, their friends and family members. Enjoy a wonderful luncheon and keynote address by Katrina McGhee from Susan G. Komen for the Cure about how one Promise made 30 years ago between two sisters changed the face of breast cancer forever. Each attendee will receive a copy of Nancy Brinker’s memoir, Promise Me. Italian Street Festival Saturday, October 1: 11 a.m. – 8 p.m. and Sunday, October 2: 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. The Richmond Original Italian Street Festival started with the dream of one individual to bring to Richmond the opportunity to experience the culture and heritage of its Italian population. The festival’s move from Church Hill to the more expansive Gardens at the Richmond Raceway Complex underscores the growing popularity of the annual event, which drew more than 25,000 over the years.

Que Pasa Festival Saturday, Oct. 1 from 11 a.m.-7 p.m.at The Science Museum of Virginia, 2500 W. Broad Street. If you’ve been living in Richmond for a while you’ve probably noticed the wave of Hispanic culture that has invaded the city. From Salvadorian pupusas in South Side to a generation of Latin artists at VCU, the influence is there. Lucky us, we also have the Que Pasa Festival which brings a blend of Latin music, food, art, education and games just in time for Hispanic Heritage Month. Put on by The Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and held at the Science Museum of Virginia every year, this festival is a Richmond favorite. Admission to the festival is free.

HOGTOBERFEST. Style Weekly is putting on a festival next week in Churchill at Libby Hill Park from 12 noon – 7 pm. We’re going old school –  BBQ, BANDS & Beer – sound familiar? Kids area and much more – and it’s FREE!  Just like the old days with High on the Hog.
