Dominion Gardenfest of Lights at Lewis Ginter – The light show continues but hurry because this is the last night until December 2012! While you’re there, help feed those who need it most by taking canned goods to the admissions desk and they will deliver it to the Central Virginia FoodBank/Meals on Wheels.

My Fair Lady is showing at the Empire Theatre, 114 W. Broad Street. Celebrate their 100th Anniversary celebration. And don’t miss the upcoming celebration as the Empire changes its name on January 12.

Virginia General Assembly’s Bicentennial of the War of 1812: A Symphonic Tribute – January 11, 2012. Inspiration for this special performance on January 11, 2012, the opening day of the 2012 Virginia General Assembly, comes from the bicentennial commemoration of the War of 1812. The concert will feature music written in and around 1812 that celebrates freedom, reflects upon times of conflict, and symbolizes cultural and national pride.  This concert is presented in partnership with the Virginia Commission on the Bicentennial of the American War of 1812. High school students, teachers and members of the public are invited to join members of the House of Delegates and the Senate of Virginia for this special concert at Richmond CenterStage free of charge.  While this is a free event, tickets are required.  For individual tickets, please contact Katie Freeman at kfreeman@richmondsymphony.com.

Reconnecting Disconnecting Kids: Autism Spectrum and ADHD – Hear Dr. Mark Smith of Brain Balance Center Richmond talk about functional disconnection syndrome, and the research that led to the Brain Balance approach to autism, AD/HD, dyslexia, and other neurobehavioral disorders. The historic Empire Theatre is celebrating its 100th anniversary and  celebrating a new name! The theatre is being dedicated and renamed in honor of Sara Belle and Neil November. Thursday, January 12, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. is the date for the celebration. This is sure to be a dazzling and extravagant event.

Barnes & Noble Storytime at Short Pump – Children’s Storytime: Toddlers and Preschoolers (Ages 6 and Under). Join us each Thursday for our Children’s Storytime. On the third Thursday of each month, we’ll have a special visit from Seymour and the Children’s Museum.

Pajama Storytime at Short Pump Barnes and Noble.Snowmen at Night – Snowmen play games at night when no one is watching. Be sure to wear your pajamas for our special Storytime.

Feast RVA. We are super excited to announce that we are all set for our next Feast RVA event! Feast RVA of course! The top creative ideas submitted for consideration will be included on our ballot for the evening. Each submitter will then present their idea for your consideration over dinner. Upon conclusion you’ll be asked to give your vote to the idea that you like the best. Catered by the lovely folks at 821 Cafe.

Celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. at St. James’s Episcopal Church – 1205 W. Franklin St. The choirs of St. James’s will join the Concert Choir of Norfolk State University, one of the premiere African-American ensembles in the country, for a service in celebration of the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr. Carl Haywood, preeminent organist, conductor, composer and editor of Lift Every Voice and Sing II, the African-Am.

Richmond Symphony and Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez with Guest guitarist Jason Vieaux will join the Richmond Symphony, performing Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez for this concert.   The Philadelphia Inquirer wrote, “He made the single guitar seem like a body of instruments at work in music full of the emotion of loss.”  Vieaux is available for press and media interviews.  For more information about Jason Vieaux, visit www.jasonvieaux.com.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day.  9:30am-5pm.  CMoR Central.  The Children’s Museum of Richmond will be open to the public on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Visit the art studio to participate in a special art project in celebration of the legacy of Dr. King.  Free with museum admission.
