Easy Leap Year Dessert for the Kids

Leaping lizards – or is that leaping frogs – it’s leap year already!

This is the perfect time to make some extra-special desserts for the kids or grandkids. And it doesn’t get much simpler than this. For a “Hoppy Leap Year”, just follow these directions and watch their faces light up.

Frogs in a Pond

Ingredients needed:

  • 1 package lime gelatin
  • Gummy frogs
  • Cool Whip or edible flowers

Instructions:

  1. Mix gelatin according to package directions. Fill individual clear cups 1/2 full and refrigerate until slightly thickened.
  2. Place  1 or 2 gummy frogs on top of the mixture and then fill cups with remainder of gelatin mixture and refrigerate until firm.
  3. Serve with a dollop of cool whip or other decorative “edible flowers”.

The kids will love it and it’s a good time to explain to them about Leap Year. What better way to do that than to visit the Science Museum of Virginia’s blog post with fun facts for Leap Year.

Enjoy – see you in 4 years!
