Volunteers Needed for Special Olympics on June 9

Special Olympics need your help – can you and/or your children volunteer to make their event special?

Did you know that 6 out of 10 people with intellectual disabilities will be bullied at some point in their lives?  In an effort to reverse the bullying epidemic, Special Olympics is actively seeking community volunteers of all ages to help cheer Special Olympics’ athletes to victory at their upcoming Summer Games.

Summer Games is the largest competition for the Special Olympics Virginia – nothing short of legendary thanks to overwhelming support from thousands of local volunteers who brave the summer heat to assist athletes each June. Athletes come from all corners of the state to compete in swimming, power-lifting, softball, track and field, bowling and tennis.

It’s all for Special Olympics Virginia at the University of Richmond, Robins Stadium Track.

But they still need plenty of volunteers to help.

More than 1,400 athletes from across the State will go for gold in tennis, powerlifting, swimming, bowling, track & field, and softball competitions on June 8-9 at the University of Richmond. While the athlete are competing, they need you to cheer them on. This is the perfect volunteer opportunity for parents and kids and what a powerful lesson for our youth. Imagine the smiles on the athletes faces as they see tons of cheers going up just for them!

We need you to fill the stands, because competing without cheering fans truly is not as special. In the first few moments of experiencing Special Olympics, you will see that these special athletes are extremely deserving of your applause, support and admiration.

Fans who sign up also have the chance to win some FAN-tastic prizes, including an Amazon Fire Tablet, Kings Dominion tickets, $100 Kroger gift cards and Sweet Frog treats! Like them on Facebook for prize details.
