Born to be Wild (film in IMAX®DOME) – Now Playing – see website for times and details. Born to be Wild is an inspiring story of love, dedication and the remarkable bond between humans and animals. Maharaja: The Splendors of India’s Great Kings at Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. The first exhibition to explore the extraordinarily rich visual culture of India’s last royal families, Maharaja: The Splendors of India’s Great Kings spans the period from the early 18th century to the mid-20th century, bringing together over 200 magnificent objects.

Summer Sounds at Stony Point Fashion Park – Summer is here. Enjoy live music while you stroll, shop and dine to all your favorite tunes performed by local musicians — all summer long!

Alice and Bernie’s old friend Earl shows up and the situation between the two guys that goes all the way back to high school. Tuckahoe Artists Association Exhibit on Saturday, June 2 at 1:00 pm at The James Center Lobby, Richmond, VA. Paintings by members of the Tuckahoe Artists Association will be on display in the James Center Lobby from Saturday, June 2 through June 23, 9 am-5:00 pm.

A Feel For Color through July 13 at the Children’s Museum of Richmond. An exhibit by artist Sarah Barker who reinterprets famous paintings by Pablo Picasso, Vincent van Gogh, Georgia O’Keeffe, and others by quilting them in different textures to expose the visually impaired to the talents of master painters. Included in museum admission.

The Hope Tree Project through July 4. In this exhibit, students will be encouraged to express their hopes and dreams in a Latin-American inspired art installation, organized by Richmond author Meg Medina. The artwork is fashioned after traditional milagros and is related to Medina’s newest young adult book is The Girl Who Could Silence the Wind by Candlewick Press.

The American Legion Sandston Post 242 is hosting several ceremonies and events in honor of our veterans, especially those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our nation. Valentine Richmond History Center – May 28 – Commemorate Memorial Day with a tour of Richmond’s historic cemeteries, including the Old Negro Burial Ground, St. John’s Church, Shockoe, Hebrew, Woodland and Hollywood Cemeteries. Memorial Day Ceremony May 28, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at the Virginia War Memorial. Co-hosted with the American Legion 11th District. This ceremony honors all veterans and reminds citizens that we must remain vigilant to protect our freedoms. We will have extended hours during the weekend with other special activities. The Wall of Honor Ceremony, previously held at the Capital, will be integrated into this meaningful event. The plaques from the Wall of Honor will be on temporary display at the Memorial. Governor Bob McDonnell will give the Keynote Address.

Memorial Day at Ferry Farm – Visit Historic Kenmore and Ferry Farm where Civil War living-history interpreters will bring the past to life. Learn about period chores and cooking, medicine, and weapons. See exhibitions of cavalry and infantry drilling. Hear period music and play games. Please note – this event takes place at both Ferry Farm and at Kenmore Plantation. Separate admissions charged at each site.

Kids of all ages are invited to join Pottery Barn Kids for story time every Tuesday. Members receive an official Book Club Passport at their first story time and a special gift after attending five story times.

The Virginia Holocaust Museum in Richmond will hold two events in the same evening on Tuesday, May 29th. All are welcome. At 7 p.m., hear the works by composers whose music was suppressed by the Nazis. Tragically, the human beings whose work and lives were stolen by the Nazi regime are gone forever, but with the rediscovery of these important lost works, we have the exciting opportunity to celebrate their spirits and let them live on through their music. Concert, unveiling and reception are free and open to the public.

Virginia 529 Day – Tuesday, May 29, 10 am-2 pm – Step up to the Virginia529 wheel o’ prizes give it a spin and you learn about Virginia 529 college savings plans! Tuesdays on the Patio: Free Concerts at Short Pump Town Center in May. This month, Short Pump Town Center is hosting a free concert series: Tuesdays on the Patio. Uncle Billy’s Day Festival – This is the 63rd anniversary of Uncle Billy’s Day Festival which includes something for everyone. Arts & Crafts exhibits, great food selection, flea market/antiques, live band performances, children’s rides and performances, art show, fireworks on Saturday at dusk. Free General admission. The Ashland Strawberry Faire in Ashland, Virginia is held at the peak of strawberry season in our area. It is usually held the first Saturday in June on the streets adjacent to the Randolph Macon College Campus. Bike MS: Ride Virginia – Take the challenge of riding to help find a cure for multiple sclerosis. We offer 1-day rides of 25 and 50 miles, as well as 2-day rides of 150 miles. You can even ride a full century. This ride begins in Richmond and goes to Williamsburg. It is a fully supported ride with stocked rest stops, bike mechanics, SAG vehicles, medical personal and lots of FUN!

Group Ride for New Riders. Laurel Park Shopping Center Parking Lot. Free – 8:15 a.m. on June 2. New to cycling? Want to get back into riding? Then join us for the Richmond Area Bicycling Association’s Group Rides for New Riders. All levels of riders welcome, however, basic riding skills are required. These rides are geared for new or former cyclist wanting to get back in the saddle again and enjoy the sport. This is a fun, social ride, and not a race! We will leave from the Laurel Park Shopping Center in North Richmond at 8:30 a.m. for a 20 mile loop to Ashland and back.

Varina Day from 10 am – 2 pm for all ages. The Varina Ruritan Club, in cooperation with Henrico County Division of Recreation and Parks, is hosting its 17th Annual Varina Community Day. Come out and celebrate the community! Live performances will be featured on stage throughout the day. Children’s activities include a petting zoo, face painting, a moonwalk, and more.

Set against the majestic backdrop of the Grand Canyon, Grand Canyon Adventure takes you on an exhilarating river-rafting adventure down the Colorado River. Meet Robert F. The 10th Annual Richmond Ride for Kids will be held on Sunday, June 3, 2012. This annual charity motorcycle ride benefits the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation – a national organization supporting families with children suffering from brain tumors. The event starts and ends at the Richmond Times-Dispatch offices in Mechanicsville, off RT. 301. Registration starts at 8am and the police-escorted ride leaves at 10am.
