Holt Tobacco Exhibit Opening – The Valentine Richmond History Center announces the opening of its newest exhibit. The exhibit, a rotation within “Discovering Collections, Making Connections,” features an assortment of items from the Holt Tobacco Collection, including tobacco tins, advertisements, tools, books and cigarette cards. It was collected by Bernard Stuart “Skip” Holt (1932-2011) and donated to the Museum in 2012 by his wife Carol A. Holt.

Celebrate the Art of Latin America: Brazil. 1pm-4m. Virginia Museum of Fine Arts – Family Programs. Experience the jubilee of Carnaval in fall. Enjoy samba music and performances (even learn samba yourself!), watch Capoeira Resistencia (Brazilian martial arts) demonstrations, engage with street performers, feel the rhythm of a Brazilian drum line, and join a parade of Richmond marching bands. Kids and parents can make their own elaborate masks or headdresses, Brazilian tambourines (pandeiros), and a one-of-a-kind ceramic vessel inspired by pre-Columbian art. 8th Annual Recovery Fest & 3rd Annual BBQ Championship Cook-off – Laurie Dhue, former news anchor of FOX News, CNN, and MSNBC will be the guest speaker at the 8th Annual Recovery Fest & 3rd Annual BBQ State Championship Cook Off.
