Local Moms to Hold Bake Sale Benefitting Cookies for Kids’ Cancer

Heather McDonough and Amy Whitehurst, two local moms whose children attend Greenwood Elementary School in Henrico County, will be holding a bake sale to benefit the national charity “Cookies for Kids’ Cancer.”

  • On Saturday, December 15, from 8 AM to Noon
  • Lakeside Farmer’s Market (6110 Lakeside Avenue, Richmond, VA  23228)

Heather and Amy will sell chocolate chip, peanut butter, oatmeal raisin and colonial shortbread cookies, as well as a vegan, gluten-free option.  Warm apple cider will also be available for purchase.

“My son has a friend at school whose family has been touched by childhood cancer,” said event co-organizer Heather McDonough.  “Hearing his friend’s family’s story of losing a child touched my son deeply, and it inspired me to do something to try to raise money for childhood cancer research.”

“Cookies for Kids’ Cancer” is a national charity, which counts among its sponsors Glad Products, OXO, Uline and King Arthur Flour.  Local event sponsor Grace Covenant Community School, a program of Grace Covenant Community Ministries, also donated resources for the event.

Those interested in donating to the cause who can’t make it to the bake sale can donate online at this link.

We encourage Richmond moms, dads, and others to support this important fundraiser – and remember to do random acts of kindess and pay it forward in memory of Abbie and Michael.

When:  Saturday, Dec. 15; 8 AM to 12 PM
