Richmond moms probably remember Karen Wright as our July 2012 Rock Star of the month for her commitment to the community. Many of you know Karen from her tireless work and advocacy for the KLM Foundation. But did you know she was the 2012 Volunteer of the Year for the organization. Karen does not promote her own work for the foundation, but focuses on the mission of the entire group which is to make it affordable for kids to attend college.
The KLM Scholarship Foundation was recently featured in Richmond’s UrbanView magazine, highlighting the great work they do help students seeking to improve their lives through a college education. Click here to access the entire article.
According to the article, “Studies show that textbook costs alone have increased by more than 800 percent since 1978, and the inflation rate is higher than college tuition alone.” That’s where volunteers like Karen come into play – helping raise money to pay for books so kids can go to college.
This is an organization that is truly making a difference. The KLM Scholarship Foundation is doing what they can to make education affordable to everyone.
The 5th Annual Black and White Affair is scheduled for April 6, 2013 at the Children’s Museum of Richmond. This is just one of the many fundraisers, events, and activities throughout the year.

The foundation will continue to provide book scholarships as well as college prep seminars and career counseling services in the future. KLM has the long-term goal of being a one-stop-shop for students entering and exiting college. And they are well on their way to success!
Visit their website and consider donating to help them make college affordable for teens striving to succeed in the world today and in the future.
