We blasted some ghosts in the Boo Blaster, a great new ride just for this season

Every Friday and Saturday night in October beginning October 11, 2013; Journey Trails 2013 with 2 haunted trails, and a startling museum of the terrifying past. Located between Central VA and the Hampton Roads area just 1 mile off I64 at Exit 211.

Howl-o-Scream 6pm-10pm at Busch Gardens, Williamsburg. At 6pm, there are serious scares when Busch Gardens becomes a more menacing place.

Creepy Hollow Scream Park.  More monsters – more frights – more fun!  Check out the Creepy Hollow Hayride and Scream Forest. Each night we have well over 50 live actors monsters, incredible animatronics, amazing illusions and acres of screams.

Blood Lake in Midlothian. October 5, 11, 12, 18, 19, 25, and 26, 2013. Deadtown Abbey – A Bloody Good Time! Lord and Lady Grindthem roll out the blood stained carpet, and invite you to roam the Deadtown estate. While the Grindthem family provides the formal entertainment, the folks downstairs provide service with a scream Deadtown Abbey is an outdoor haunted walking trail through the woods. Children under 9 are not admitted.

Haunted Evenings at Ashland Berry Farm. At night, Ashland Berry Farm is transformed into horros beyond ones’ imagination in October! All month there are different scares that haunt the woods. Hayrides begin at 7pm.

Ashland Berry Farm. Besides its Haunted Evenings program, Ashland Berry Farm offers pumpkin picking and festival-type weekends for the whole family. Take a tractor out to the field to pick your own pumpkin. And stick around for the Boo House, hay maze, tractor rides, donut shop and much more. Check website for hours. Saturday and Sundays 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Weekdays vary. Last hayride at 4:30 p.m.

Halloween Haunt: Through October 27, 2013 at Kings Dominion. The bloodcurdling horror and nightmarish madness of Halloween Haunt features ghastly creatures emerging from the darkness, highly-intense and bone-chilling attractions and some of the most hair-raising rides on the planet! For children 13 or older only.

Petersburg Haunts. Sept. 20–21, 27–28, Oct. 4–5, 11–12, 18–19, 25–26, Nov. 1–2. – Petersburg Haunts – The leisurely one-hour walk takes you through 400 years of history, legends, untimely deaths, and—of course—ghosts. Lantern-carrying, costumed guides will lead you through beautiful, historic Petersburg, and stop at many of the city’s fine buildings.

Eerie Nights Ghost Tours of Richmond. October 4-5, 11-12, 18-19, and 25-26. 8pm-9:30pm. apital Creepers presents the “EERIE NIGHTS” ghost Tour of Richmond VA. The tour leads visitors through Richmond’s oldest neighborhood, Shockoe Bottom, in search of restless spirits.Your “Ghoul Guide” will tell you about the tragedies and paranormal activities that happened and happen at each stop along the way. Eerie Nights Ghost Tour is unlike any other. There are no cheery guides to greet you here, instead we offer you our “Ghoul Guides” a group of the walking dead doomed to haunt the streets of Richmond and tell you all about its tragic past. Admission is $13.

Ashwod Gardens & Nursery. Head to the pumpkin patch at Ashwood Gardens for weekend hayrides to the pumpkin patch, all you can carry specials, and hayrides on the Saturdays and Sundays. 11374 Ashcake Road, Ashland, VA.

Belmont Pumpkin Farm. Head out to the Belmont Berry & Pumpkin Farm every weekend in October for a hayride to the field to choose your own pumpkin, build a scarecrow (by bringing your own set of old clothes), face painting, paint your own pumpkin, take a run through the corn maze, geocaching and more. The Annual Pumpkin Harvest begins the first weekend in October with pumpkin picking, face painting, treasure hunts, mazes, farm animals to visit. Enjoy sunset hayrides the last two weekends in October.

Boulevard Flower Gardens at Ruffin Mill. Take a tractor ride to the pumpkin patch and pick your pumpkins at Boulevard Flower Gardens. Plus plenty of kids activities like train rides, hay-bale maze, face painting, moon bounce and much more. Free entry, small fee for some children’s activities. Thursdays and Fridays 2 to 6 p.m., Saturday and Sunday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Fall Family Fun Days. Bring your family out to the Ranch for your fun fall activities! We have a pumpkin patch, hay rides, trivia corn maze, hay maze, corn pit and slide, hay pyramid, pony rides, face painting, and farm animals. A farm stand is also open with produce, baked goods, honey, jams, pumpkins, mums, grass-fed beef, and pastured pork. Open Fridays, 4:00 – 7:30 pm, and Saturdays, 10:00 am – 6:00 pm, through November 2nd.

Ghosts & Grisly Stories. Looking to spend a spine-chilling evening with family and friends? Explore the storied haunts of the most paranormal spots in Richmond or just check out its most historical sights on a regular tour when you use your admission ticket to a two-hour Ghosts & Grisly Stories Segway tour, through November 8.

Richmond Grim Tales & Haunted History Trolley Rides. Through October 31. For 300 years Richmond has been a hot-bed of romance, war, and modern medicine, leaving us in no short supply of grisly stories from the past. Hear some of the city’s dark tales as you ride a trolley through the streets and back alleys of downtown when you visit Grim Tales & Haunted History Tours from the Richmond Trolley Company. 15th Annual Fur Ball - 5:30pm-10pm – The Annual Richmond SPCA Fur Ball is Richmond’s only black-tie event for people and their pets! Proceeds support the Cinderella Fund, which supports the care and rehabilitation of sick, injured and neonatal orphaned animals in the care of the Richmond SPCA each year. Haunted Henricus: Things that Go Bump In the Night  (7:30 – 9:30 p.m.)  Experience an evening of spellbinding accounts and legendary tales as storytellers relive old English legends and folklore.  Join us by the fireside and listen to European stories early colonists told as they recounted tales from their homeland. Capture the essence of what a Colonist felt between 1607-1622 in a strange new land surrounded by danger, darkness and uncertain peril.  The harvest is in, the nights grow longer and danger lurks in the shadows. Annual Spirit Walk. The 19th Annual Spirit Walk blends drama, storytelling and living history as costumed guides lead nighttime tours through Historic Downtown Charlottesville, meeting dozens of historic personalities along the way!

45th Richmond Oktoberfest! October 18-19. The Annual Richmond Oktoberfest is the largest German / American Oktoberfest festival in the state of Virginia, playing host to nearly 5,000 people over the two day indoor event. This event is a sample of German Bavarian culture at its best. It’s for the whole family to enjoy. Don’t have a babysitter? Don’t worry. Children up to a certain age are admitted for free (visit the Facts page for specific age requirements). The Chicken dance is and always has been a favorite of the kids (young and old).

St. John’s Oktoberfest. October 18-19. Celebrate Oktoberfest at Richmond’s oldest German Church. St. John’s Oktoberfest kicks off Friday in the Courtyard Bier Garten with bratwurst and fixings for $5 from 5 to 8 p.m. Come back on Saturday, October 19 to enjoy authentic German food and music. Seating for dinner is at 5:30 or 7:00 p.m. in the dining hall. Dinner includes sauerbraten (roast beef), spaetzle, red cabbage, green beans and home-made applesauce for $15. Harvest Festival. Noon-4pm at Meadow Farm Museum/Crump Park. Rain Date: Sun, Oct 20, noon-4pm
Visit historic 19th-century Meadow Farm to celebrate the fall season with traditional harvest-time activities.  The Harvest Festival will feature many hands-on activities an demonstrations depicting typical homemaking and farming tasks of the era.  Play a rousing game of old-fashioned cricket, hand-press apples to make cider, dip string into wax to create your own candle, ride a pony, and meet a sheep at the “Children’s Farm.”  Visit the “Great Pumpkin Patch” where children ages 3-12 can pick out their very own pumpkin to take home!  Local musicians and performers will provide entertainment on two stages.  Concessions will be available for purchase.

Family and Community Festival. Imagine Festival 2013 on Saturday, October 19, 2013 from 12:00 noon to 5:30 p.m. The event will be held at Broad Rock Park, which is located at 4802 Warwick Road. The Imagine Festival was previously one of the prevention initiatives under Richmond’s Gang Reduction and Intervention Program (GRIP).

Central Virginia Celtic Festival and Games. Expect “large guys throwing stuff” the size of telephone poles, pipes and drums, Celtic dancing, a Celtic market, pints of Guinness and tons of fun at Celtic Fest & Highland Games. Held at RIR. Saturday & Sunday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. $15 per day, $25 for the weekend in advance; $20 per day, $30 for the weekend at the gates. $5 extra for pets.

Powhatan Festival of the Grape. This renowned event is slated for Saturday, October 19th, from 11 am to 6 pm. We are delighted to offer 30 wineries, 100+ quality arts and craft vendors, as well as a variety of live entertainment and a great selection of delicious, regional favorite foods.

Sweet Spot Candy. The Mad Scientist is headed to Sweet Spot on Saturday, October 19 for a Halloween Experiment!  Join us at 6:30pm for a Test Tube Soda Tasting and then take a spot in our ‘lab” for the Mad Science show ($5 per family) at 7pm. Family Arts Day Celebration. University of Richmond Museums for the annual Family Arts Day Celebration, an art-centered family fun day featuring activity tables, art projects, food, and more.

Fall Festival at Patterson Avenue Baptist Church. Patterson Ave Baptist is holding their 2nd Annual Fall Festival offering free family fun. Enjoy the Pumpkin Patch, Petting Zoo, Clowns, Costume Contest, Trunk or Treat, Games, Inflatables, Food, and much, much more. Mad Science Halloween Party. 6pm-10pm. Dinner?  A movie?  Enjoy a nice night out while Mad Science watches your precious little ghouls and goblins.  But beware, they may be having so much fun they don’t want to go back!  The night will include pizza, a fun science show, radioactive atomic glow slime making, fun Halloween games and activities, and a fun (non-spooky) Halloween movie!  We may even spin some yummy spider webs to eat (cotton candy).  Cost $30 per child ($25 siblings).  Grades K-5. This spine-tingling journey along a wooded trail highlights Pumpkins in the Park, featuring dramatic and spooky scenes, along with surprises sure to elicit screams of delight. Be prepared – you will be scared. More than 2,000 brave souls attend this spooky event every year. On Saturday, enjoy pumpkin painting, face painting, music, storytelling, costume contests and a community-based Trunk-or-Treat, where children enjoy an old-fashioned Halloween in a safe environment. The event is sponsored by the Friends of Wilderness Road State Park. It’s only $5 per vehicle.

Find out at Pamplin Historical Park’s Halloween themed event, “Voices from the Shadows: A Walk through Hallowed Ground” on October 25 and 26, 2013. Costumed guides will lead participants by candlelight on a spine-chilling tour of the Breakthrough Battlefield and Tudor Hall plantation, allowing guests to walk in the footsteps of those who once lived, worked, fought, and died at this historic site. As visitors experience each stop on the tour, they will encounter the sights and sounds, the people and stories that still haunt the Park. This first-time event will only be offered two nights, Oct. 25 and 26, 2013 at 7 p.m. and space is limite

SpookieFUN Fest. 6-9pm. Hanover County Parks and Recreation is planning their first “SpookieFUN Fest” featuring Taylor, our fun and friendly mascot! Ages 11 & under. Wear your favorite costume and join Taylor and friends for a fun-filled night of flashlight toy & candy hunts, trick-or-treat community booths, games and a drive in movie, featuring the popular Hotel Transylvania. Kids can also move and groove in Taylor’s ‘Lil’ Frankenstein’s Monster Mash Bash’ dance area. October 25-26, 2013.

Scarytown in Carytown! 12noon-pm. Look for the “pumpkin” in the merchant’s window that says “come in for Scarytown treats”. They have agreed to participate in Scarytown safe trick or treating. Trick or Treating will officially be from 12-5pm, though some merchants may continue after that.

October Oddities at Lewis Ginter. 10am-2pm. October 5, 12, 19, and 26. Refresh your family’s “garden spirit” through displays, activities and special events that explore the weird and wacky wonders of nature.

Boulevard Pumpkin Festival. 12noon-6pm. On October 26th, 2013 Experience RVA will host the inagural Boulevard Pumpkin festival. The festival will shine a spotlight on Scott’s Addition restaurants, business’ and the neighborhood. We are focused on providing an all ages event, bringing the community together for Richmond’s ONLY FALL and Halloween focused event to celebrate the harvest that is the business and residential aspects of Scott’s Addition. Pumpkin Chuck. A family friendly event featuring pumpkins flying through the air from a wooden trebujet!  Hayrides, games, facepainting, food and much much more!   Al proceeds benefit Hanover Arc.

Trick or Treat Spa Party at Crave-tini. Join us for a Trick or Treat Spa Party at CRAVE-tini Children’s Spa featuring Pumpkin Infused Express Manicures and Mini facials! Light snacks and treats will be served. Parents are free to drop children off and pick them up at the end of the event. Children must be completely potty trained and able to use the restroom unassisted. Reservations required.

Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Celebrate Hollywood: Costume Party! 1-4pm. Come in costume (from monsters to princesses) and explore the art of cinema! Participate in storyboarding, script writing, setting up props, and role-playing. Connecting literary, performing, and visual arts, this event includes puppet shows by the Barefoot Puppet Theater, puppet-making and costume-making activities, expressive pumpkin carving, and face painting! Prizes for the best costumes will be distributed throughout the event.

Food Allergy Friendly Trunk or Treat. 4-6pm. Free – Dress up in your costumes and decorate your trunk with a theme, bring a bowl of allergy-free candy or non-food treats avoiding the main 8 allergens. Spooky Party: Children’s Museum of Richmond locations want you to give your children’s costume a test run on October 26th from 9:30-5pm. Halloween themed games and activities will be played throughout the day. Don’t worry, there’s nothing scary about the Children’s Museum of Richmond’s Spooky Party!

Pumpkin Palooza from 11am-5pm Innsbrook’s Biggest Halloween Party and Fundraiser! Great family fun! Innsbrook’s Great Pumpkin Palooza is just around the corner and you’re invited! Join us as Innsbrook’s Pumpkin Palooza teams up with the American Cancer Society and goes pink in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Hallowe’en Graveyard Tour from 6pm-8pm at St. John’s Church, Church Hill.  Spirits represented are George Wythe and Eliza Poe Tours begin every twenty minutes, last tour begins at 7:40pm. Appropriate for adults and families.

Halloween – El Dia de los Muertos. 12noon-4pm. The Cultural Arts Center in Glen Allen. In conjunction with the Latin Ballet of Virginia, The Center invites the community to this celebration with live music, dancing, arts & crafts and sweets-and-treats.

The Richmond Flying Squirrels will host their  3rd Annual Squirreloween event at The Diamond from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, October 27th.  The event will once again be highlighted by the opportunity for area youth to trick-or-treat in a safe and family-friendly environment.  The event is FREE and open to the public.  The 3rd annual event will also begin a partnership between the Flying Squirrels and The RVA Card.  Squirreloween will include the first-ever RVA Card Halloween Carnival, which will benefit FeedRVA.

Goblins n’ Gourds at Lewis Ginter. 1pm-4pm. Harvest celebration with live music, pumpkin decorating, good green fun in the Children’s Garden. Live concert by the Richmond Indigenous Gourd Orchestra.

Hoot and Howl Halloween. 6-9pm. A family-friendly Halloween bash, the Hoot and Howl at Rockwood Nature Center is always a hit! Come for a not-so-scary good time with free games, crafts and live music around a campfire. Hop on the tractor driven hay ride through Rockwood Park, or take a spooky guided night hike through the woods. Prepare yourself for close encounters with creepy creatures! Children’s costumes welcome!

Day of the Dead Fest. 6-9pm. Brand new festival at the 17th Street Farmer’s Market. They are going to celebrate Halloween with a traditional Mexican Day of the Dead Festival. More details coming soon. 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Free.

Halloween Hoopla at CMoR Central. 4-8pm. Adults and children can come dressed in their Halloween best for an evening full of family fun at the Children’s Museum of Richmond – Central! Enjoy trick-or-treating in our Spooky Village, play fun games like pin the nose on the Jack-O-Lantern, paint pumpkins in The Backyard and so much more!

 A Hot Mess Halloween Parade. All the Saints Theater company and the 8th annual Halloween parade are set for Halloween night. The theme is Funeral March for Free Love and Speech and addresses such hot-button topics as Edward Snowden, Chelsea Manning and gender issues. It begins in Monroe Park on Halloween night at 7 and marches through Oregon Hill, led by members of No BS! Brass band and a bike contingent to block car traffic.
