Kids with food allergies love Halloween too. But how can you allow them to go trick-or-treating with worrying?

The Richmond Food Allergy Friendly Trunk or Treat event might be just what you’re looking for!

  • Saturday, October 26, 2013
  • 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm
  • Cheswick Park, 1798 Forest Ave, Henrico, VA 23229

halloweenThere was such a great turn out last year and a great time was had by everyone that they’re doing it again in 2013! Here’s how it works:

  1. Dress up in your costumes
  2. Decorate your trunk with a theme
  3. Bring a bowl of allergy-free candy or non-food treats
  4. Join a Food Allergy Friendly Trunk or Treat!

They will be excluding the main 8 allergens:

  1. Milk
  2. Eggs
  3. Peanuts
  4. Tree nuts
  5. Fish
  6. Shellfish
  7. Soy
  8. Wheat

Please make sure that the candy is not processed in a facility with or on shared equipment with any of the 8 major allergens listed.

All packaging must be present at the trunk or treat to be double-checked by an organizer before the event begins. Non food allergy kids are also welcome to participate too!

Send an email or text to register with your name, email address, number and ages of children attending, their allergies, and the treats you will be bringing so that they know how to plan and what to expect (see contact information below or visit the website).  Click this link to get treat suggestions and information on how to check labels for food allergy contaminants.

Organizers will arrive and double check labels at 4pm on the day of the event, and the trunk or treat will start at 4:15pm. Visit the website for updates and sign up for email updates on the website.

Enjoy this fun holiday with your kids in a safe way. Thanks to the Richmond Food Allergy Friendly Trunk-or-Treat for making it all possible.

    NOTE

Parents should ALWAYS check and double-check food before children with food allergies are allowed to consume them! Food should be in sealed packaging with the complete list of ingredients included – and that should also include whether or not the facility preparing the food is free of the 8 allergens listed above!
