Autism Awareness Month

lightblueGet out the blue lights on April 2nd for the United Nations-sanctioned World Autism Awareness Day.

In a new surveillance study, the CDC has identified 1 in 68 children (1 in 42 boys and 1 in 189 girls) as having autism spectrum disorder (ASD).  These numbers are growing at an amazingly fast rate.

In addition to blue lights in your home or work place, here are some other ways to participate:

– Light up your facebook profile picture blue.

Hand out these stickers at your child school or wear a lapel pin (you can get more Light It Up Blue gear at AutismSpeaks.Org)

-Have your workplace wear blue (besides, it’s a very flattering color)

-Share autism facts on Twitter with  #LIUB -for example “Autism costs a family $60,000 a year on average #LIUB”

-Organize a fundraiser for Autism Speaks

– TEXT “AUTISM” to 25383 to donate $10 to Autism Speaks

-Share your stories with us!  If autism has affected your life, submit your story to Sarah@Richmondmom.com and your story may be featured on our website!

Upload photos of your participation, whether it is a Wear It Blue group photo, Blue Item, Blue Display, Blue Event, or an image of a program, menu or special to the Light It Up Blue photo gallery.

Share your blue with Richmondmom.com through Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram
