Dogs on Call Making Earth Day Deliveries

There is no question that a little quality time with a furry friend can turn a bad day into a good one.  For a sick child in the hospital, a visit from a dog can be just what the doctor ordered to help reduce pain and anxiety.
The Dogs On Call program has 48 volunteer therapy dog teams (a dog and their owner) who visit regularly at VCU Medical Center. Teams form special bonds with all patients and staff, but you can see a very special reaction when dogs visit with pediatrics patients. Dogs on Call have delivered smiles and stuffed animals for Christmas and Valentines Day.  This Earth Day, the Center for Human-Animal Interaction at VCU has received a generous book donation from the Nature Generation and SRA International, INC.

Dogs On Call will be helping kids celebrate Earth Day by delivering gorgeous nature books for all ages via therapy dog teams.  Dog therapy teams will be making the rounds to several facilities including the ASK Pediatric Oncology and Hematology Clinic, Virginia Treatment Center for Children, and Children’s Hospital of Richmond. This wonderful celebration of environmental stewardship, and animal therapy is part of the Center for Human-Animal Interaction’s partnership with The Nature Generation and SRA International.

The Nature Generation is dedicated to fostering a sense of environmental stewardship in young people, and what better way to get beautiful nature-themed books into the hands of young patients than by delivering them via therapy dog team?

100 different books for all ages will be delivered on Earth Day, April 22nd, 2015 to make the day a little brighter for patients, and celebrate the Earth and all the special people and animals who call it home!
