June 2010 Dream Baby Shower Nominees

Nominees are in alpha order by LAST name.
_________
Marcia Arbogast

My wife is being nominated because she is a very loving and caring person who has taken on the responsibility of helping to raise a 17 year old step daughter while alos raising our 1 year old son and preparing to have another little boy in July. She is also a great wife who has the added duties of being a military spouse, which on it’s own adds a whole new dimension of stress to her day! I believe that being a military spouse is harder than being a civilian spouse; she has to always think ahead to the next deployment, which is never set in stone until the last minute, try and anticipate the next duty station move, when it will be, where it will be, and all that will need to be done once we arrive, ensure that she can handle the duties of both parents whenever I can’t be around, due to deployments, training exercises, or attending various schools throughout the world.
I believe my wife truely deserves her Dream Baby Shower for all that she does for the family, in our military life.

Chelsea Arnold

I feel that the person I’m nominating deserve’s the richmond’s dream baby shower because she just had a miscarriage to a still born september 30,2009 and then got pregnant with twins a boy and a girl and it will help her ease her mind about getting things for the twins but she truely deserves this baby shower.

Tonya Bennett

I am pregnant with my third child.  I have had 2 girls and this child is going to be a boy. My husband is finally going to have a “mini me” running around.  We almost did not have another child with my getting older and the economy like it is but we decided to go for it.  With everyone in the same economic situation I have been downplaying any gifts or showers that my friends and family want to give me but this would great!!

Kiara Branch (2 nominations)

I am most deserving because I have lived in Richmond all my life and this is my first child. I am proud to be carrying a baby boy that is due August 26. I have to spend my last few months during the hottest part of the year and would certainly enjoy the rewards of being chosen. Since this is my first child I have lots of things I need for my baby. My best friend is away at school and my mom is not good at planning events so I don’t have anyone to throw a babyshower for me. I’ve been thinking about just giving myself one but that takes the fun out of it.I didn’t celebrate my 21st birthday much due to a little baby sickness and could use this dream babyshower to make up for it.When my pregnancy began I was low on energy and sick all the time,it was tough for me to continue working but I made it through. I’ve always been a petite and this the most weight I have ever gained. The physical changes can be challenging sometimes. As a Richmond resident I desire this dream babyshower!

Ms. Kiara Branch is one of the kindest and sweetest person I ever met. We have known each other since running track in high school and she has grown into a wonderful young lady. Kiara is always there for anyone when you need her and most of the time she puts others before herself. This is her strength and weakness. Kiara deserves Richmond’s Dream Baby Shower because she will be the perfect mother. She deserves to be pampered and celebrated because of all of her hard work and to welcome her into her newest journey, motherhood.

Meredith Briggs

Meredith is the most deserving person I know.  In business, she spearheaded a free “financial fitness” seminar. It helped women learn how to do everything from running a business to teaching their children about money management. She has also been an integral part of several socially aware organizations.  Whether in business or not, Meredith is a wonderful person and a true friend. I KNOW I speak for many when I say Meredith impacted my life in a positive way. I KNOW she’s going to make an awesome momma.  Meredith is now expecting twins and recently missed her baby shower due to hospitalization. Please vote for Meredith and show her we care.

Jennifer Britton

Wonderful person, wonderful father, so much the perfect parents (aren’t we all?) and so in need of a wonderful gift..both physical (baby) and material Richmond’s dream baby shower!!

Diamond Brown

I think my daughter deserves it most because this is her first child, she also is a full-time college student, who also works part time, she also has no car so its really hard for her to get around and make ends meet in this type of summer weather at this time in her life. Im a great mom to my child, but its also hard for me because I have no job myself to help her with baby shower expenses an that hurts me because she should feel special on her special day. A great baby shower is one thing that I would not be able to give to my daughter, so this is another reason why I think she would really deserve this special opportunity to have a chance to win Richmond’s Dream Baby Shower.

Jessica Brown

My granddaughter Jessica was our 1st grandchild to be born now she will make us great grandparents. This will be the 5th generation of women on our side, once Kristan is born in October. Jessica is enjoying being pregnant & will be graduating college in Dec. & off to become a doctor. She has been through so much in the past few years…she was in a very serious car accident. Jessica was very determined to walk again went through several months of being in a wheel chair and having to learn to walk all over again. It’s always been her dream to become a doctor & after all the care she received from her nurses and doctors it just made her all the more determined to give back and help others. She is off to a great start. Her soon to be husband is away in the air force , which has been hard on her.  Jessica’s due date is Oct.18 and Andrew will not return until Sept.29. We are so proud of Jessica and would just love to honor her and give something back to her. She deserves it! With love, Googie

Kristen Burden

Kristen is married to my cousin Bryan, and she is really, truly, one of the nicest, genuinely kind people I’ve ever met. She’s worked with special needs children one on one, and at Children’s Hospital, and just seems to have a patience and true caring that shines right through. Our whole family is just so excited that Kristen and Bryan are going to have a baby- they are both going to be such tremendous parents (and that’s going to be one beautiful baby! smile

Jill Carrillo

I think that my friend, Jill Carrillo, is an excellent mom to nominate for this fabulous prize!  Jill is an amazing lady.  She has two boys and is expecting her third child in a couple of months and yet has more energy than anyone I know of.  She keeps the house running smoothly for her husband (who works shifts, so she juggles a lot of scheduling) and young boys, works part-time, too and still manages to be a wonderful support to all her friends and family.  She’s a wealth of knowledge about natural childbirth and attachment parenting and loves to support others in that area, too.  When asked to volunteer or help out on a support board she’s on, she’s right there.  I really think that Jill deserves this baby shower.  I know she would truly and absolutely appreciate it, too.

Jessica Carr

I am single mother with two kids and one on the way. I have a income of 320 dollars a month. I don’t have any of the things that a newborn baby would need nor do I have the financial ability to buy these things. It would be a real piece of heaven to have everything my baby needs before it is born. I have never had a baby shower and have only dreamed of what mine would be like. If I could win this i would be forever grateful. Thank you and god bless!

Ashley Carter

I am nominating myself in this most deserving Richmond’s Dream Baby Shower because I am full time Stay At Home Mother of two little fellows and I need a night out!  I have a 4 year old, a 19-month old and another baby on it’s way come November!  I love my children and being able to stay at home with them means the world to me.  I decided to quit my job as a Teacher’s aide and stay at home with the boys last year;  Best decision I have ever made.  We have had to do a bit of adjusting learning to live on one paycheck.  Cutting out this, and cutting back on that allows me to be with my children at all times.  My kids are my world and my husband and I can’t wait to meet this little one growing inside of me.  It would be a dream come true to win this dream baby shower and be able to just relax and let all the baby supplies come to me!  grin  Thanks for the opportunity.

Tyniqua Carter

My name is Tyniqua Carter and I’m 16 years old. I’m having a girl in July. My boyfriend is in college and has a job providing for his new family he has to take care..Im still in school, I will be in the 11th grade next year…If I win this contest I would be more than happy.

Amy Chandler

I am nominating my wife.  Six months ago we lost our daughter to premature birth at 28 weeks. We have two older boys and this was going to be her last pregnancy.  It has been a very tough time for us but we are comforted by our faith.  We have been blessed to become pregnant again and pray that everything will turn out well this time.  I feel like my wife has been through alot and deserves a Dream Baby Shower. Thank You.

Shanika Chattar

Shanika Chattar deserves the Richmond’s Dream Baby Shower because she continues to live the dream of true love that is so rare. As a young couple they really would benefit from the Richmond Dream Baby Shower because while they have so much love to give, they cannot live on love alone. The Baby Shower would allow them to alleviate some of the financial burden of a new baby for a young new married couple, who are now about to become parents of their first child (due on July 4th).  They were high school sweethearts that married last year on 4/18/09, and RTD featured an article on their wedding which fused their Black and Indian traditions.  Shanika & Tamesh recently purchased a crib from Goodwill and never complained that they didn’t have a brand new crib.  This just shows the character of the people they are, to them its about love, not about material things.  Tamesh is a hard-working husband, who is currently working three jobs (1 FT and 2 PT)to prepare for their new baby girl.

Stephanie Cofield-Jones

I feel like I am deserving of richmond’s dream baby shower because I am a mother taking care of my 10 month old son basically by myself while I am 6 months pregnant with my next child. I would not be able to afford a dream baby shower if I saved for it until I was 9 months. I feel that I am a loving and caring mother and I ould give anything for my son and that is what I do every day. I don’t buy things for myself, only for my son. I guess basically it would be nice to just have a day and something nice done just for me without feeling the guilt that I could be doing it for my son instead. So please take my entry into consideration.

Gina Corbitt

Gina is happily expecting her second baby.  She put herself through paralegal school, and graduated with high marks.  She managed to raise her first child while holding down a full time job, a husband!, and going to school.  I personally mentor her, and can say with pride that she is extremely lovely in every way, most especially in how she treats others.  Gina and her husband are in their early 20’s, and could definitely use the gifts.  But more importantly, I don’t think any other applicant would be more appreciative.  She is simply a joy to be around, a great mother, wife, and friend.  I am proud to call her my little sister.

Anne Creasy

A first baby is always exciting and Anne and David are very excited to be expecting their bundle of joy in November! This will be a first grandchild on one side of the family and the first East Coast grandchild on the other. Anne is busy picking out colors for a nursery while David is lamenting the loss of his “office.” Anne has been coping with morning sickness and David is wondering why he has to make so many sacrifices. (Yes, he is still alive!) With so many things needed for a new baby, winning the Dream Baby Shower would help out greatly for this couple who both work full time jobs. Anne is great about keeping us up on her doctor visits and has both grandmothers enrolled in a grandparents class so we’ll be up to date on all new ideas and can help at any time. She has been organizing and getting ready for the big day. Having been to many friends’ baby showers it would be great to invite them to this event and she would be so excited to win and share with her friends and family!

Shanika Davis-Rustin

Shanika is my only daugther and Im pride that she is ready to have a daugther of her own. She is hard working and a very loving person and I would love to see her have the dream babay shower to welcome her new baby girl into the world. This is my only granddaughter.

Samantha Dickenson (3 nominations)

Samantha and her husband, George, are the perfect example of the young, hard-working couple expecting their first child and can use all the help they can get.  They deserve to be showered with gifts, support, and love. They will be wonderful parents and I will be a happy and willing adopted grandpa.

Samantha is a wonderful and genuine person.  She always puts others before herself and works daily with children at Romp n’ Roll where she puts her heart and soul into her job.  She loves working with the children and does a fantastic job.  Sam is very excited about being a mom but we have had a bit of stress as I have recently lost my teaching job for next year and am still looking for another job.  I think she could really use a little fun to relieve these stresses!

Samantha is not only an expectant mom, but she works with of many Richmond area children in her job at ““Romp and Roll.””  Keeping childen active even at a young age teaches them great health habits.  Samantha supports her husband - our son - in his role as an elementary school music teacher.  They keep a tight budget but they are generous with their love of children.”

Hope Duck

My mom is having her fourth child and I feel she is deserving because she is an amazing mom. She always comes through for me and my brothers no matter what problem comes up. Like when I have assignments due for school, she always helps me get an A. I also love the way she teaches us about love and patience. Not only that she cares for my 5 year old brother who has autism and she makes it look easy. She has a strong faith in God and is good to anyone who knows her. I think she deserves to be spoiled for a change because she is always giving to others. Anytime someone asks for her help she is right there to give it to them. The biggest reason my mom deserves this baby shower is because she is the best mother in the whole world.

Sarah Fenwick

We are having a suprise baby after we had gotten rid of everything we had for a baby. We have nothing for are baby and this would be a great way to start out. Thank you

Ilka Fischer

Ilka has been one of my best friends for a long time, always lending a helping hand when needed, always there for others. She & her husband have helped me when I was in need for childcare for my 4 children so many times, I can’t thank them enough for it. Always so patient and fun you can tell they love kids, you could see they wanted one of their own. After a long time of trying for a baby, some heartbreaking moments in between, their wish is finally coming true. I can not think of a more deserving mommy-to-be and daddy-to-be!!! Congrats and I’m so excited with you!

Heather Flippo

She is a wonderful person very caring. She is having twin boys due in August. She was asked to leave her job due complications with the pregnacy. She is 20 yrs. old and 1st time mom.

Brianne Forst

This nomination is for my wife. She has a condition known as preeclampsia. Due to this condition, she has to stay in the hospital under constant monitoring while she is pregnant. She has already been in the Henrico Doctor’s hospital in the women’s pavilion for weeks and will continue to be there for the next two months or until our baby is born. She can’t leave her room. I have been staying with her and saw your ad on the news so I thought it out be nice to nominate her. Also because she is in the hospital, she had to cancel the baby shower that she was supposed to have back home in South Dakota with her family. It would be nice to give her one out here, maybe even in her hospital room if possible. Thank you for the promotion and for your consideration. We have purchased things from your store in the past. It is very nice. Thanks! -Mitch

Shannon Gainey

I have to start off by saying I am no more deserving of the Dream Baby Shower over any other mom/expecting mom.  With that said, its been a tough past for me and my family.  Unfortunately, I don’t have enough space to write complete details, but the last 13 years can be summarized by having my first child, Hanna, splitting up with her father, obtaining my Ph.D. in chemistry while raising Hanna as a single mom, meeting my wonderful current husband, Marc, moving our family to Ohio due to my job, having Zoe our 3.5 year old, moving back to NC (where we were from) to help my in-laws, one of whom had a heart attack and the other was diagnosed with Cancer (within a 3 months time period).  This was followed by a loss of my job and finding a new one in Richmond forcing our family to move again.  We are now in Richmond as a family, with a very tight budget due to the expenses of all of our moves and schooling, and are expecting twins in August and deserve the Dream Baby Shower.

Misty Garner

I am in the army my wife did not get the chance to have a shower for the frist child that we had.  Now we are in a place for a little bit but we do not have that many friends yet and to far from family.  This would make my wife happy she wanted a shower the first time but we couldn’t have it because i was getting deployed.  She really needs this and deserves a shower.

Shelby Gibson

Shelby and I have been friends since we were in middle school.  We have shared all of the moments growing up that best friends are supposed to have together.  When she got married last year, she asked myself and our other two best friends to be in her wedding and that was such an honor.  She was the first of our group of four to get married, now she is the first of us to have a child.  Shelby has always been there for me and our other girlfriends, through everything.  During bad breakups she was the one to call and cheer you up.  If you were having a bad day, then she was there to say “Let’s go do something fun.”  She has always been such a supportive, loving friend.  Tough love when I need it, or a gentle word when that’s the order of the moment.  Always caring for others and never putting herself first; she works as a veterinary assistant daily, so caring is in her nature.  With everything she has done for me and others over the years, I just want to do this for her and her baby.

Kaitlyn Giuliani

I think Kaitlyn is most deserving because first of all she is in the Army, was wounded and still dealing with recovery issues from the injury which occurrd in Iraq. She will help
you out and has a few times for my husband & I. She was not planning on a baby but we can already see the sunshine beaming out of her. As you can tell she is very much loved & a very good friend. I believe she ia
well deserved of this gift.

Whitney Goodman

She is an amazing woman! This is her first child. Her & her husband tried for 2 years to conceive. She is such a sweet and caring lady. She has wanted this baby for so long & will be the most amazing mommy! They don’t have a lot of money so this would be perfect for them to get everything they need.

Melanie Gordon

Three words will give you the gist….Two Under Two! That’s right… my wife and I just found out she is pregnant! And we have a 9 month old!! If our math is correct, our children will be a mere 17 months apart. Whoa! We are very excited, stressed at times, but excited. Melanie is a great mother to our son Isaac and though the work will be 2X, so will the love. Plus, Melanie loves math, so this is right up her alley…. right? Vote for Two Under Two! -Kamen

PS - So, um… this news is not yet “public”. If you happen to know us or our family members, don’t go out of your way to “celebrate” with them. They will likely look confused. If you are a family member…. “Surprise!!!” This is going to be fun!

Crystal Grant

I’m will be a first time mother, who currently works full time, trying to support and start my family.I’m currently staying with my family but I’m in the process of saving and gettin an apartment for our new family, but its been very hard since I’ve been trying to make sure we have everything ready for our new baby boy, and saving all I can.My husband is currently out of work which makes it a lot harder. My babies due in october and I can really use all the help I can get, my family tries but they also have bills of their own.I will make sure he has everything he needs but its getting really hard on me the futher along I get with my pregnacy.

Britt Griffith

I am a stay at home mommy with my two year old daughter and enjoy every second I get to spend with her. She is going to be a big sister this August when our sons arrives. My husband and I are looking forward to all of the excitement this little guy is going to bring to our family. Being a mom is the most amazing job I could have ever asked for. We had to make some financial sacrifices but it so worth it to watch your child grow and develop everyday right in front of you. I get to be there for her as she develops her personality and behavior. What a wonderful gift! My husband and I cannot wait to watch her become a big sister and to watch our family develop into a family of four. This would be a very special opportunity for me and my family. Thank you for your time.

Stephanie Hare (2 nominations)

Well I am a first time Mommy to be who is so super excited to become a mama smile I am a very hardworking person who deserves a little pampering! lol Me and my husband dont make too much money so some things are pretty hard to come by and this sounds just too good to pass up smile Thanks for considering me!

I have know Stephanie for many years. She is the daughter of a friend of mine. Stephanie has a really kind way about her and has a few very close and loyal friends. She has a terrific sense of humor which is probably what sealed the deal in our friendship! She always has a smile or a joke to share and can lift anyone up just by walking in the room. She has a niece that she dotes on constantly and from this I can tell that she is going to be a wonderful mom. She and her husband Brian have been together since high school - so I can see their commitment to each other and know that they will have a loving and happy family. I know that the two of them aren’t made of money, so I really hope that you can give Stephy the baby shower of her dreams. She really deserves it.

Andrea Harris

Andrea is a great mom to Taylor her 6 year old. Andrea has been out of work for a few months now,and is not having any luck at finding a new job.Her husband has just gone back to work after being out for eight months. Her baby is due in October (boy). She has a great personality, she is warm and friendly very kind and bubbly. She is a wonderful daughter-in-law.

Daphne Harrison

Daphne Harrison is a beautiful person inside and out.She is a wonderful friend and neighbor. She is always there for my children as well as other neighbors children.Every morning she graciously watches my daughter and makes sure she gets on the bus while I rush off to work. During the snow storm a few months ago when the schools closed abruptly, Daphne was on the phone calling me and other parents making sure that our children can get home safely from school. When I was pregnant with twins, Daphne brought me dinner and offered to watch my other children while I rest.  Then, when the twins were born, she came over and graciously offered to watch them as well. I can’t even list all of the wonderful things she has done for me and my family. She also picked up my daughter every day after summer school for two summers in a row. As a mother of 5, I truly know the meaning of the saying “It takes a village to raise a child” and I’m thankful everyday that Daphne is a loving member of my village.

Melanie Haugh

I am a first-time mom and am super excited to be going through this journey! I am happily married to my husband Jason. We will celebrate our three year anniversary in July. I work for the WIC program helping out low income pregnant moms, breastfeeding and postpartum moms, infants and children under the age of 5. My husband and I have a limited income right now and we could really use the help!

Mandy Henderson

I am a hard-working waitress and mom-to-be in downtown Richmond who has never won anything in my life! I have been a prisoner to my home/work ever since becoming pregnant because of my never-ending nausea! I would do anything to have something fun happen!

Crystal Higgins

I am pregnant with second baby - due 1/17/11. My husband & I were told we would not be able to get pregnant w/o help from fertility Drs due to me having P.C.O.S. - well, we proved them wrong TWICE! I did not have a real baby shower w/ my 1st one. just a few people gave me some things.

Halena Hutchins (4 nominations)

Helana had always work hard to support her first son. Recently she lost her job after she find out she was pregnant with her 2nd child and had have a hard time finding a new job.

Hello, My name is Halona and your timing is perfect! My baby is due October 1st. I feel I deserve to win your contest because I am a 40 year old mom starting over! My son is going to be 20 years old in June. That’s right!(20 years between babies) I’ve also recently lost my job, basically have savings, and dont know how I’m going to get my baby furniture, pampers, etc. It would be such a blessing to enjoy the rest of my pregnancy worry-free. you would make us,(baby and me)both very grateful and relieved!

She is a great mom, who raised a son that is very responsible and trustworthy.  He knows how to act like a gentleman.  Now she is pregnant with a little girl at age 40.  She was recently laid off, so she really needs this prize. She is engaged to a great guy and this would be a great present for both of them (to make and see Halona happy).  Please pick my sister, please! The baby is wonderful news and now she deserves something great to happen to her to go with it.  She is kind and always thinking of others. You couldn’t pick a better or nicer person.

2nd baby after 20 years!

Kristin Jimison

This baby of ours has some timing.  After years and years of actively not trying to be pregnant everything changed on Valentine’s Day in a blur of tears, hugs and projectile pee sticks in response to my plaintive “are you sure?”. So on Easter we told my parents the good news. If it was quiet in your house that high pitched shrieking noise was them.  As things progressed apprehension turned to joy.  On the 23rd of May we left for Florida for a quick vacation and to visit my ailing Nana who was in the hospital.  My Nana wanted to know the boys name so we kicked everyone out of her hospital room and told her. Three days later, surprising us all she lost her battle with cancer.  As we entered her hospital room my Aunt said, “she held on to your secret.”. My family assures me this is the only secret she has ever kept. Ever. A few hours later our baby boy kicked for the first time. In the midst of pain and sorrow everyone needed that life affirming moment.  This kid has some timing.

Tori Keel

Tori is one of the most hardworking, caring, and most pleasant people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. She is a fifth year student at the Medical College of Virgina at VCU, majoring in Nuclear Medicine and minoring in Spanish. When she is not studying or in class she is working hard to save money in preparation for her child. Tori broke up with the father of her child after a two year relationship because she received news of his infidelity. A week later she received other news, news that she was going to be a mother in the next 8 months.  Tori is most deserving of Richmond’s Dream Baby Shower because she needs more positive influence in her life, especially during her hard times. While maintaining her 3.5, she still manages to live a healthy lifestyle and prepare herself for motherhood. Above all, she’s deserving of this because of her kind soul and love and dedication to her friends and family. When most in her situation would run, she is bravely embracing her new blessings.

Amanda Keller

Audra Kelley

In October 2004, my best friend, Audra, was pregnant with her first child.I had planned an elaborate shower and had invited friends and family from all over the state. Her mom came down from Northern Va and was really excited to be having her first grandbaby. On the way to her shower, she was involved in a major car accident. The passenger in the car that hit her was killed on impact (he was a 12 year old boy). Instead of going to her shower, she spent the next 6 hours in labor and delivery and the emergency room. She had her twin sister open her presents at the shower so everyone could continue having a good time even though she wasn’t there. The only pictures from the shower are of her twin with a stuffed animal up her shirt with a sign saying “Understudy Audra”.Her mom stayed at the hospital with her and never got to experience it either and unfortuanalty passed away in October 2007. Now that she is pregnant agin, I think she deserves to have the best shower possible.

Candance Kelley

I am a 27 year old mom 5months pregnant. I love being a mom and my daughter who’s 10, and my new addition. My ex-fiance left when I was 3 months and now wants nothing to do with me or the baby so I’m doing it all on my own the best I can. Noone would apperciate this more than I would.

Julie Kratzer

I would like to nominate my wife. We are expecting our first child, but my wife is especially anxious for a few reasons. We recently moved to Virginia from south Louisiana because of my job, and all our close friends and family are thousands of miles away. I feel bad that she isn’t able to be more comforted by the people closest to her during this special time in our lives. She is very close with her whole family, so it has been tough on her. And she is nervous about having our first baby while adjusting to the fact that her family is so far away. Not to say we haven’t loved living in VA, because we have met some great people in the last few months. However, I know nothing can take the place of having her mom and sister nearby. So, I would like to nominate my wife for this baby shower so she can feel more relaxed and prepared for our first child, and we can grow our friendships with the great people we’ve met here as we celebrate this baby together!

Lottie Lawson

I’m 28 years old and pregnant with my first child. I’ve had several doctors tell me that having a child without use of medication would be impossible because of medical complications.  I went home one day after an appointment with my gynecologist and told my boyfriend that I was going to start taking the fertility drugs in two years because I want to have a baby before I’m 30.  Two weeks later, he convinced me to take a pregnancy test. Reluctantly, I took the test. It was positive! I took another one… It, too, was positive! I already knew, but that day in particular solidified the fact that prayer works!!! I am currently 33 weeks pregnant with our little girl, Miss Alisa Danell Washington. We are so excited and can’t wait to see her!! smile

Unique Laylor

I am married and expecting my first child. My husband and I don’t have any family here in Richmond, and it will be very difficult for us to travel for a baby shower. We will be appreciative for whatever we receive.

Ashley MacLaughlin

I’m nominating myself.  We are having our first child in July and we are very excited.  We just bought our first house and moved in a month ago so our life is still in boxes!  We hope to dig out by July smile

Sam Mahoney

She’s a first time Mommy.. and deserves a dream baby shower!!

Emily Mason

My wife would be a deserving recipient of Richmond’s Dream Baby Shower because now she has the opportunity to share the love, compassion, and patience with a child of her own. She has devoted her life to challenging young minds in the classroom, and every teacher deserves a day to shine.  I proud of her and amazed at how much she has grown since we first met. I’m reminded daily of how much I love her.

Tiffany Maynard

My daughters best friend is having her 1st baby. She is 13 years old she is due in dec. 2010 and i would like to surprise her with a party she needs everything due to she is a teenager and don’t work she is only 13 years old.

Susan Meadows

Susan is expecting her first baby after 11 years of marriage and can use all of the help she can get.

Lauren Methena

This pregnancy has been more difficult than my first, because my life has completely changed. Having lost my job in September, I courageously decided to work for myself, reinventing myself as A Writer Who Knows How to Sell! As I juggle the demands of a potty-training 2-year-old, a husband in school, & a new pregnancy, I am nursing a new career. The good news is I got my first clients within 3 months of starting my business. The bad news is that I pushed myself so hard that I was very sick throughout all of February until the beginning of May, simply by not taking care of myself. I never slept, staying up all hours to complete projects for clients. The harder I pushed, the sicker I got, & the more behind I got as I ran out of energy. Yet, I have stayed involved in the community, actively working with the RMA on the Retail Marketing Expo, organizing community groups & events, and playing music with my husband at live events-we are both musicians. I hope to be a stronger, wiser mama.

Melanie Murphy

I’m a working mom with a 2 1/2 year old son and wonderful husband.  All of our family is located out of town so we’ve surrounded ourselves with friends to be our Richmond family and are always looking out for others.  Would love to give this baby-to-be a grand entrance into our lives!

Tina Nelson

I am a stay at home mom with two boys 5 and 2, baby no. 3 is on the way…due august 21st.  its going to be a surprise.

Emily Patterson

Emily has worked hard to be a great stepmother to 2 girls (9 and 7) and is so excited to be a mother to her own.  The last year has been a whirlwind…her wedding, helping her husband renovate his childhood home, the death of her mother in law 2 weeks after her wedding, and the trials and excitement of everyday life.  Emily and her husband both deserve this, as many other mothers to be as well.

Sarah Patterson

Sarah has been trying for pregnancy for five years and it has finally come true for she and her husband Kevin.  Sarah worked in day care part time through high school and college.  She now works at Childrens Hospital and has devoted her life to children.  She makes a great canidate for the Dream Shower.  Thank you for considering her.

Lori Peacemaker

My best friend deserves the best baby shower in the world. She is a wonderful person and a wonderful mom. She has been down on her luck for the past year and half. Her husband left her and her two kids after 8 years. She went from being married and a military mom, to living at hom with her parents and now struggling to take care of her two wonderful young children. She is now 7 months pregnant working a part time job and doing the best she can to provide for her family. She is a kind, loving friend and deserves this Baby Shower more than anything in the world. She never wants for anything and always struggles for everything. The best gift she could receive threw this pregnancy is a good time with the people she loves and the help she has longed for.  Thank You for taking the time to read my story.

Keyvette Peebles

On July 30,2008 my wife and I were celebrating our 2 year anniversary.  My wife was 5 months pregnant and everything was fine.  We were away in the Blueridge area celebrating.  My wife woke me up around 2:30am complaining of sharp pain.  I immediately rushed her to the nearest hospital.  She was examined and released a few hours later.  We both took it easy and agreed to cut the vacation short and head back home to Richmond early the next morning.  Around 4:00 am I was awaken again by my screaming wife this time it was bad.  Lots of blood and fear.  We once againg went back to the hospital to find that she had miscarried.  Now in 2010 we are expecting again this time the doctors are extremely cautious.  They found that she has a compromised cervix and put her on strict bed rest.  She is now 32 weeks pregnant and isolated to the bed and restroom.  She is still scared and anxious.  She became very emotional recently because she can’t even go out to buy things for our child.—Shawn

Marianne Peterson

All expectant moms deserve a treat! I’m already a mom to one and expecting one in September. This pregnancy I’m finding it harder to set up the nursery and get everything ready for the baby since I already have my hands full with an active three year old.

Grace Piotrowskie

Grace Piotrowski is my daughter, my best friend, and one of the most wonderful woman I know.  Grace and her husband wanted to start a family soon after they married.  Unfortunately, they found out that Grace has a condition call Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) a condition that many young women have, causing a lack of or extremely infrequent ovulation.  Three years later and after doses of fertility medication, three miscarriages, inquiring into adoption, being treated by an amazing fertility specialist, and injections, Grace and PJ are now expecting their first child.  She will be 16 wks on Wed., June 2 and the baby is due November 17, 2010.  Although there are so many women that have tried and waited and are still waiting, I am so very proud of Grace for all that she has been through and never giving up hope. All of the love and joy that Grace has given me as a daughter she will now give to her daughter as a MOM.

Sarah Pless

I am an exhausted mommy pregnant with number 2.  My daughter turns two next week and is the light of my life, but very very energetic and stubborn!  I recently lost my job, and am having a hard time finding someone to hire me with only a few months left in my pregnancy.  Times were tough, and now they’re tougher!  I’m due August 7, 2010 with our second baby (another girl) and I just want to have some time to myself!!!!  I would love to even be able to go to the bathroom by myself for once!  A night out and some wonderful pampering prizes would be a great relief to this busy momma!!!!

Elginette Powell

My beautiful wife Elginette, is 5 months pregnant with our baby girl.  She is going to be our 5th child. Ten days after my wife and I got married, in 03,  I got called to active duty.  Three months later, my wife got sent to Uzbekistan.  We both were on active duty for 1 year.  We both were back by mid 04.  We got pregnant in late 04 and my she gave birth to our first set of twins.  Thanks to our Almighty God.  My wife wanted a baby shower but because we do not have any family members in VA, she didn’t get one. Twelve months later, we got pregnant again ,with twins. Because we do not have family members in VA, and none of her friends gave her a shower, once again, she did not have a baby shower.  Four months after their 2 years birthday, my wife got called back to Iraq. My wife is 5 months pregnant now and she is planning her own baby shower.

Richelle Price

Richelle is most deserving because she will be a young mother in October 2010.  She is a graduate of Atlee High School, receiving many honors in academics and in basketball.  She received a full scholarship currently attending VCU; and on her way to being a great young lady, a great achiever, and a great ““mommy”“!  It would only be fitting that she is awarded this ““dream”” baby shower seeing that so many of her childhood dreams came true in her many achievements in school and in her sporting activities.”

Sarah Rabin

Amy Randall

I am deserving of the richmonds dream baby shower because this is my first pregnancy and i am 30 years old. im a wonderful aunt friend and i know ill be a loving mother! im not financially stable and i would love to be able to get my baby the things they need and deserve so please choose me!!!

Erin Reilly

Erin Reilly is an AMAZING person!  She is a good friend to anyone she meets and always has a smile on her face.  She moved to Richmond in 2001 right before she married her husband Shaun and they wanted to have children soon after they were married.  In 2002, Erin and Shaun welcomed their first daughter and 2005 they welcomed their second daughter.  Erin is now pregnant with baby number three and it is a BOY!  All of their things are girl related and they need to add to their baby stuff with boy items.  Erin is a sweet, fun, amazing mother who deserves to be pampered with a dream shower!  She is loved by all who meet her and goes out of her way to make someone feel welcome and special.

Malia Rinaldi

She is the most loving and hardworking mommy. Her husband travels every week all week so she is solo supermom during the week until daddy come home on the weekends. It’s very difficult during the week being the sole provider but she wouldn’t change things.

Amy Roberts

Second baby on the way with no family in town. Just thought this would be a fun way to meet new people!

Stacey Roberts

This is a very challenging time financially for myself and my family.  After the loss of my son prematurely in January 2007 my husband and I decided to throw a huge ‘Welcome Celebration’ for our daughter that was born in February 2008. Instead of the traditional baby shower, we had a big party/dinner for the whole family! It was great and an exciting time. 2009 brought many financial hardships and an unexpected pregnancy announcement at year’s end! We just keep saying “we’ll be okay though”...and we know we will. This year and this baby, we won’t be able to afford a shower. What is fortunate is that we’re having another girl, so although we won’t have all we need (due to the different seasons they are born in) we will have something! But how great would a DREAM SHOWER be?!?! I feel that my husband and I are deserving of this shower, because in spite of…we’ve stayed truly positive and kept the faith!

Christine Robinson

Becoming a mother was a major part of my life. Once I was diagnosed with Endometriosis I had surgery, was on multiple medications, and was told I only had about a 30% chance of conception once I turned 30 years old. After years of trying my husband and I found out we were pregnant and i turn 30 in June.  I am a nurse at St. Mary’s Hospital and spend my career nursing and taking care of other people. I would love to win this dream baby shower to share with my friends and be pampered as well as, celebrate the miracle of pregnancy and my baby!

Claire Rose

Claire is one of the sweetest women I know! She deserves a grand baby shower!! This is her first baby after a miscarrige and medical challenges herself. Her endearing personality and positive outlook is contagious! She’ll be an incredible mother! She is due the end of August.

Hayley Rose

1. I don’t have a mom to give me a baby shower 2. I don’t have any of my own family (only in-laws) in this country to pamper me wink  3. I’m a cool mom smile

Tarnisha Rose

Tarnisha has such a big heart! She’s currently a mom to her 9 year old Tyra, she’s taken on the responsbility of rearing her 5 year old Sam and now she’s being blessed with a new baby girl in August. As a single mom, Tarnisha does what she can to make sure her kids have what they need and enjoy what they want. It would be great to see some of the burden lifted from her by winning the Dream Baby Shower, a person that gives so much of herself deserves to be pampered!

Keisha Ruble

Keisha is a great friend to everyone, she always Puts others before herself. If anyone is in need of ANYTHING she is the first to help out or volunteer. Keisha has always wanted to be a MOM and after 5 1/2 yrs of trying, she was finally blessed with a daughter, now 4 yeras old. Keisha is now THRILLED that she is expecting her 2nd child in October. She is a wonderful and loving mom and everyone who comes in contact with her becomes quickly aware of her generous and giving nature. Keisha’s friends and I would love to see this HARD WORKING,DESERVING MOM win these wonderful prizes!!

Jane Sakowski Bell

Ok, I admit it- i am nominating myself! I am expecting my 4th boy for goodness sakes( 5th including my stepson)...help a sister out!!! it’s been 10 years since my last son, so I am ill equipt to say the least. Hook a sister up!

Alisa Samuel

She is a young single mother who needs a dream baby shower. She is on her own and needs a helping hand. Recently graduated from high school and doesn’t have a job or any thing for her baby. She’s trying to be indepedent.

Tyiesha Saunders

The person im nominating is my daugther. she is a very hard worker and attend a community college so i think she really deserve Richmond’s Dream Baby Shower.

Jennifer Saville

Jennifer Saville is a great mom and has finally been blessed with her second pregnancy, a boy. She’s a hard working mom and daddy is in the military soon to move and be deployed.  It would be so awesome if they could have a baby shower prior to a move and deplayment.  Jennifer is from the area and has strong family and friends ties to Richmond.

Shannon Scott

Because she is the most amazing kindergarden teacher. For the past 7 years her kids have learned so much. She is going to be an awesome mom and deserves something back for all her hard work with other people’s children.

Latoya Smith

My wife and I recently go married in October 2009 and we are now expecting our 1st child together.  She is the most amazing person I know and she will be a great mother.  She has already proven so with our 4 year old godson that we have helped raise since birth.  Now she will have a chance with one of her own and I would like nothing more than to give her the baby shower she deserves.

Joy Sowinski

I have known Joy since the summer of 1995.  She became my sister’s foster child as her biological parents had divorced and her mother was unable to properly care for a growing teenage girl. She became the little sister that I never had!  Sadly, a few months after Joy turned 18, she was forced to leave my sister’s home.  While she did struggle to make ends meet, Joy always had a smile on her face and was there to lend a helping hand to anyone that needed it. Joy’s is currently in the beginning of her third trimester of her second full term pregnancy.  She has suffered through infertility and three previous miscarriages in the past several years.  She has a beautiful daughter, Madison, and will soon become a mom to a baby boy.  I feel that Joy is most deserving of a Richmond Dream Baby Shower and that she would definitely be delighted and appreciative if she were to win!

Deanna Spivey

Everyone deserves a little good in their life.  One year ago, my brother married a woman who not only changed his outlook and purpose in life but has become a welcome addition to our family.  Dee Powell Spivey is more than deserving of this dream shower in so many ways. After enduring the tragic murder of her sister, who was also her best friend, the world was forever changed.  Dee and her family endured the emotional roller coaster of the unsolved crime for some time.  Through years of persistence, the case was finally solved bringing no answers but at least a resolution. Dee is now embarking on another roller coaster ride that of a new mom.  Not only will this baby be their first child, but he will also be the first for both sets of grandparents and my very first nephew as well!    Everyone deserves a little good in their life - winning this dream shower would be just that for Dee.  Please consider offering your vote for my sister-in-law.  Thank you.

Stacy Stanford
My husband and I have tried for almost 3 years to have a baby. I had back surgery in Nov 2007 which slowed our process but luckily have healed nicely and now am expecting in December 2010!!!

Claudia Thomas

I would like to nominating my cousin, Claudia Thomas, for the Dream Baby Shower & Girl’s Night Out. She is a single Mom to two boys, 13 and 11. They are wonderful kids. She is also a great teacher to her 2nd grade students. On January 20th, 2010 her partner passed away unexpectedly, just three weeks after they found out that she was pregnant. “Baby N” is due August 24th, 2010. I can’t think of anyone deserving this more than my cousin. She is a wonderful woman always willing to help anyone in need.

Licia Thomas-Wagoner

This is the first baby for my wife and I and we are very excited.  We met in high school and have been together ever since (almost 15 years). Initially we were SO sure we didn’t want children so we waited.  But over time we realized that we were ready for an addition to our family and I can’t think of a person who will be a better mom than my best friend and wife Licia.  Unfortunately we both live a good distance from our families (mine is in Texas and hers is in Panama).  So we cannot rely on them to throw us a baby shower.  My wife is a mental health therapist who often times spends more of her energy looking after others and neglecs pampering herself.  Lic is my best friend and someone who I feel deserves the best there is out there.  She would be so excited and happy to have someone spoil her as much as she does for the people around her.  She’s always joking that she is entering drawings and raffles and never wins anything. So please vote for Licia and prove her wrong!

Sarah Via

Sarah and her husband, Justin, work so hard to provide a good home and environment for their son, Trevor. And now that Sarah is expecting again I know that she will work even harder to welcome the new baby and to make sure that Trevor doesn’t feel slighted in any way. I know this will push them to their limits but they are ready to sacrifice for their family. Sarah deserves some extra happiness and enjoyment during her pregnancy and special things for her and the baby! I would love to see this happen for her and Baby Via…(rumor has it that Baby Via is a Boy, this is unsubstantiated, however Sarah also deserves a halo for trying to compromise with her husband on baby names…we are hoping there is NO Baby Axle Via.

Heather Warfel

I cannot imagine a more deserving mom-to-be than my sister, as she welcomes her third baby.

Emily Wedlock

I couldn’t be happier to nominate my dear friend, Emily for the Richmond’s Dream Baby Shower.  She’s expecting her first child and couldn’t be more excited.  She’s watched loved ones around her have children and has enjoyed stories and pictures of them.  But now, it’s her turn, her turn to share stories and pictures of her precious child.  This is her time to shine and I know she’s feel so honored to win this shower.  She and her husband, Nate are ready for this big adventure and their child will certainly have 2 of the very best parents.

Theresa White

Theresa is a very loving mother to our first child, 2 year old Olivia, and wife to me, and the love of my life.  She always puts the needs of those around her first, taking care of her family, and always willing to help out at church, especially in the nursery.  She is the forever stylish mom, but as a stay-at-home mom, rarely kicks off her heels for any TLC for herself. Although her loving mother-in-law is always there for her, pregnancy is an emotional time for Theresa, because it reminds her of how little time she had with her own mother, who passed away when Theresa was only 3 years old.  She was very close to her Nana growing up, and she passed away during Theresa’s first pregnancy, making her pregnancy even more emotional, knowing her girls will never have the joy of knowing her family.  But, Theresa mostly deserves a dream baby shower because as a wonderful hostess, loves attending a great party.

Becky Williams

This is Becky’s 4th child. She did not expect to have any after the 3rd (which came close behind the 2nd) so she got rid of cribs, carriers, clothes and everything. Her husband, her and 3 kids just moved into a rental home and have had nothing but problems and expenses. She has no maternity clothes, but purchased a “belly band” so she can try to continue to wear her regular street clothes. She always has a smile on her face despite having a high risk pregnancy. I just think that she is past due to be pampered a bit. If anyone would be appreciative, it would be Becky. Please consider her as a candidate as she has nothing for the baby or herself yet and is due in early September.

Brittany Williams

Brittany is a wonderful energetic mom and wife!  Right after her her son’s birth, her husband was deployed and missed a lot of the ‘new baby’ stuff. During Spring Break of this year, Brittany was faced with a health crisis that has left us all devastated and her hospitalized for days and is a condition that she lost her mother from.  She took it with stride and we found ourselves laughing and rallying to support her.  the birth of her baby girl is an exciting time…especially because due to health reasons, she may not have an opportunity to have any more children, and because right after delivery, she will have to have surgery.  We want Baby Girl Williams to be ready for the world.  A dream shower would help prepare Britt and her family for a new life and a new beginning.  Life is so precious, and she is precious to us and what better way to celebrate two lives.

LaShelle Wilson

Hello My Name Is LaShelle Wilson i would love to win this dream baby shower because i work five days a week maybe even six and im five months pregnate and im only 20 i have a beautiful baby girl already and now im going to have my bouncing baby boy im very excited and scared cause im so young and about to have my second child but im happy an im planing my Daughters first birthday and trying for the baby shower but i dont think my money is looking right because i have new responsabilities for the first time in my life i have Rent, vepco, gas, insurance, food and Dipers so i have a lot on my plate pluse i really want to start school but its very hard cause everything is around the same month Her Birthday is in july. The Babyshower is in Aug. And im Due September 11,2010. Also my Birthday. So Please Pick Me i would be very Greatful because every littlt bit helps.

Amie Wingfield (2 nominations)

Amie is most deserving of Richmond’s dream baby shower because she deserves a really great shower and if it is up to me to throw a shower for her it will really not be good.  She is going to be a great mom and needs a chance for her friends to come around her and celebrate with her before she gives birth to Ave

Amie is a hard working girl that helps everyone on staff here at the TV station.  This is her first child and I think it would be great if she could have a huge party in honor of her and her first baby.

Rebecca Wood

Rebecca Wood is a hardworking wife & mother. She is a teacher at Varina High School in Richmond’s East End and dedicates all of her spare time to empowering her students.  She is expecting her second child in November & her and her husband could not be happier to make thier sweet family of three turn into a family of four.  She is very deserving of this honor and I know that she would appreciate it!

Lindsey Woodward

Lindsey is my daughter-in-law and is a wonderful person and I know she will be a great mom.  She lost a baby last year and it was so devasting for her and my son.  They felt they would never have a child after the miscarriage but God pervailed, the baby is due Aug. 3.  It is a boy and the excitement is wonderful.  Lindsey is a high school chemistry teacher her students love her,  they return to visit her on breaks, call her when in college to ask questions because she can explain in a way they can understand. Lindsey is a precious girl, she is about 5 feet tall and very, very pettite, the baby bump makes many heads turn and look at her.  They don’t have alot of money and could really use this wonderful shower.  Such an event would be so appreciated. If Lindsey was to be selected she would make you very proud of having a lovely, wonderful person turn mother.”

Linda Zaffram (7 nominations)

Last yr I had my son(7-26-09)who was diagnosed upon birth with neonatal issoimmune thrombocytopenia, was in the NICU for 11 days getting platelet transfusions and as a result of low platelets had bilateral brain hemmorhages. As we were going through genetic testing we got pregnant again with my daughter(EDD 10-3-10). The amnio identified that she has the same NAIT that my son did.  The treatment for this is infusions of IVIG 2x a wk which are inpatient and 6+ hours long each until delivery.  I began treatment 2 wks ago which will hopefully prevent the low platelets and hemmorhages in my daughter (1% of the population has NAIT).  I am doing treatments 2x a wk, I work full time as a LCSW working with indigent & underserved adults, we are selling our house & looking for another one.  I feel I am deserving of the baby shower because I spend my days helping others and the last 2 years have been especially difficult.  It would be nice to be recognized for my dedication to my daughter.

Linda is getting lengthy and painful tranfusions twice a week in order to prevent neonatal thrombocytopenia from occuring in her daughter’s birth like it did in her son’s.  Effectively, her son’s platelet type did not match hers, and they attacked each other during the birth.  Her son, Ryker, was in the NICU for many weeks after his birth, and will need ongoing neurological and occupational tests to ensure proper development.  There was a 50% chance this could occur in Linda’s current pregnancy, and after a recent amnio, they discovered it would. In order to prevent the same effects in her daughter, Linda undergoes weekly treatments while working full time as a counselor in a non-profit group.  Linda embodies what it means to love your children without conditions and is willing to undertake whatever means necessary to help her daughter enter this world healthily.
Linda’s son was diagnosed with a condition called neonatal issoimmune thrombocytopenia.  He was born with low platelets due to her platelets and the father’s platelets not matching, so therefore her body attacked him as foreign.  As a result of Ryker having these issues, they had a 50% chance of this happening again with her current pregnancy.  They had an amnio at 16 weeks which confirmed, baby girl- Adelyn Brooke, has the same platelet mismatch Ryker did.  Linda has to get IVIG infusions 6-10 hours 2x a week.  She is doing one weekday and one weekend day so that she can continue to work and balance both home and career.  These infusions are very intensive and basically coat her attacker cells to keep her body from attacking Adelyn’s.

Linda is an AMAZING and BEAUTIFUL woman of strength.  She is a true inspiration and extraordinary mother. She endured difficulties with her first pregnancy and birth, and now with her second pregnancy is experiencing the same unfortunate medical diagnosis (neonatal issoimmune thrombocytopenia) and hours of extensive treatment to ensure the baby does not suffer current and long term negative outcomes. Linda is the most deserving mother of Richmond’s (as well as Virginia & United States) Dream Baby Shower!

“Linda had complications with her son Ryker after he was born.  He was diagnosed with ““neonatal issoimmune thrombocytopenia.””  Basically, he was born with low platelets due to her platelets and Ryker’s father’s platelets not matching.  Her body attacked Ryker’s as foreign.  Ryker was diagnosed with this after he was born and spent 11 days in the NICU to get his platelets stabilized and had bilateral brain hemorrhages as a result of his low platelets.  Therefore as a result of Ryker having these issues, they had a 50% chance of this happening again with this pregnancy.  They just confirmed, that in the new pregnancy, her baby has the same platelet mismatch Ryker did.  Linda is now getting IVIG infusions 6-10 hours 2x a week. These infusions are very intensive and basically coat her attacker cells to keep her body from attacking the baby, preventing the issues Ryker had at birth.  This is very difficult for her. Richmond’s Dream Baby Shower would really lift her spirits.”

Linda is a busy working mom who despite undergoing rigorous twice a week IVIG infusions (8 hours each) manages to have a smile and be a positive influence in my life.  Not only that, but she is the mom to a very busy 10 month old boy…she deserves this Baby Shower!

“Linda is a wonderful mother of 9 month old Ryker who had some medical issues when he was born and spent several days in the PICU. Ryker is now a blossoming, handsome 9 month old.
However, Linda unexpectedly became pregnant again and is due in October. She is currently undergoing treatments to prevent the same platelet issue from happening with this pregnancy.
With the original cost of Rykers delivery and hospital stay and with the cost of her current treatments alone; not to mention her having to use her PTO up to cover 2 day treatments a week, I feel that she deserves this shopping spree.”

Amber Hooker

I am gonna be a new mommie
