We love to look at the people behind Richmond’s locally-owned businesses, and Lorrie Jones Gore is one of them.
Lorrie started working summers when she was just twelve years old, answering phones, opening mail, and helping with dispatch. In this traditionally male-dominated business, Lorrie was surely a stand-out in those days.
Later, Lorrie attended Richmond Technical Center for 4 years while in her twenties to get the class time needed to get her Master HVAC and Master Plumbing license; it’s no surprise that she was the only woman in her class. Lorrie worked in the field on occasion, answering service calls and helped manage the business until her father retired due to health reasons at the young age of 86.
It was September of 2009, and few women were—or are—running plumbing & heating and businesses, but Lorrie continues to do so with style. Along with her sisters Betty and Linda, Lorrie is the General Manager, and is watching the business grow because of their long-standing reputation in Richmond.
Although as a business owner Lorrie admits that she has to push herself to sit down and focus on financials (she loves the customer interaction), she loves managing this growing business that gives back to Richmond in so many ways.
You’ll likely see Lorrie at one of our Wine Down Wednesdays at the Wine Loft where she often donates gifts that benefit the many non-profits that reap the earnings of these fun evenings. Stop by and meet her, and you’ll know why Gundlach continues to thrive.
