8 Things I Re-learned From My Grandchildren

Could this account for some of the keys on my keyboard not working?

It’s been a while since I’ve had children “living” at home. They visit often enough and bring the grandchildren. But until you’ve actually had little children living in the house for a few days, you forget the little things they do.

Camp Gigi was a lot of fun with my three grandchildren, ages 2, 7, and 9 staying with us for 8 days while their parents enjoyed some vacation time out of the country.   Once they were gone for a day or two, I discovered little things they had left or done around the house. I had to laugh at all of the things parents deal with every day — and as grandparents we often forget. I was reminded that having little children in the house creates a whole new set of chores for moms.

The 8 things I re-learned at Camp Gigi this week:

  1. Those little spatters of toothpaste mixed with saliva in the bathroom sink are really hard to remove after they’ve dried!
  2. Finding a dirty sock underneath the pillow cushions of the sofa is an interesting surprise.
  3. Finding an apple core underneath the pillow cushions of the sofa 3 days later is an even more interesting surprise.
  4. Nose-prints and sticky hand-prints on the bottom panes of the windows are annoying – but still oh so cute!
  5. Dried-out markers with no tops in the crafting supplies should have been expected – but they weren’t.
  6. Crumbs under the laptop keyboard just might account for a couple of the keys not working this week.
  7. Little boys don’t always remember to put the toilet seat and lid down.
  8. Those left-over frozen icy treats you thought you had hidden in the freezer in the garage — well, let’s just say they’re not there any more.

Maybe they know where the tops to the markers are?

Ahhhh…..the memories of having children around. When we don’t have children living with us anymore, we sometimes forget those little surprises they leave around. An empty nest for ten years leaves me spoiled because I always know where to find what I need — and it’s usually where I left it.

But kids don’t worry too much about the little things. They just enjoy life, have fun, play, and give away lots of hugs and kisses.

Maybe we can learn something from them.
