All Aboard Kids: The Model Railroad Show Takes Off Thanksgiving Weekend

The Model Railroad Show is Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving weekend means eating and shopping but there’s more – model trains are taking over the Science Museum of Virginia during Thanksgiving weekend too. We may not have High Speed Rail, but we’ve got High Smile Rail!

Join us Friday, November 25-Sunday, November 27 to explore miniature cities, towns and villages. New layouts this year include the Harry Potter display where you will visit Hogwarts, the Hogwarts train and Diagon Alley. Choose your favorite engine and race it against another, the first locomotive to reach the end of the track and hurtle into a foam lined box wins! Look for a carnival and an expanded rock quarry scene. Uncover the science of earlier trains and learn how to build your own layout throughout the weekend.

Trains are rolling into the IMAX®DOME as well as The Polar Express opens for a special limited engagement, Friday, November. 25-Saturday, December 31. Relive this timeless story of a doubting young boy who takes an extraordinary train ride to the North Pole. The Academy Award®-winning team of Tom Hanks and director Robert Zemeckis reunited for this holiday adventure based on the Caldecott Medal-winning children’s book of the same name, by Chris Van Allsburg.

The Model Railroad Show is included with exhibit admission. Tickets are $10 for ages 4-12, 60+ and $11 for ages 13-59. Tickets to visit exhibits and to see The Polar Express in the IMAX®DOME are $15 for ages 4-12, 60+, and $16 for ages 13-59. Tickets for The Polar Express in the IMAX®DOME are $9. For more information call 804.864.1400 or visit the Science Museum of Virginia website. The Museum is located at 2500 West Broad Street in Richmond.
