Join Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell, Office of Richmond Mayor Dwight Jones, Richmond Metropolitan Convention & Visitors Bureau and Siddall, Inc. for Unveiling of Foursquare Badge for Richmond.
On Friday, March 2, Richmond community leaders will unveil the Foursquare city badge for Richmond which resulted from a region-wide effort to promote tourism led by Kira Siddall of advertising and new media agency, Siddall, Inc. and Chad Williams of Creative Visual Design. The grassroots effort received support from Governor Bob McDonnell, the Office of Richmond Mayor Dwight Jones, Richmond Metropolitan Convention & Visitors Bureau (RMCVB) and the greater Richmond community. Many area leaders participated in the process including Venture Richmond, Virginia Tourism Corporation, Virginia State Parks and Virginia State Police with journalists from Richmond.com, Style Weekly and others.
Foursquare is a location-based social networking application for mobile devices that encourages users to explore a city and “check in” to receive discounts and tips for managing experiences at new locations. Points are awarded for visiting a new venue and badges for check-ins at various locations. With a growing community, Foursquare claimed 15 million users worldwide as of January 2012.
Tourism accounted for almost $19 billion in expenditures and supported 204,000 jobs in the Commonwealth of Virginia in 2010. That same year, 6 million people visited the Richmond region which resulted in $1.75 billion in revenue supported by 20,000 jobs.
The unveiling takes place Friday, March 2, 2012 from 11:30-11:50 a.m. at Capitol South Portico Steps, 1000 Bank Street, Richmond, Virginia 23219.
