If you live on Southside Richmond or other outlying areas in that direction, then you’ll be excited to learn that the Children’s Museum of Richmond is headed your way in June.
CMoR signed a five-year lease this past Friday for a 26,000-square-foot location in the Winterpock Crossing Shopping Center. The newest CMoR location will be on Hull Street Road near the Woodlake and Brandermill communities for its Chesterfield branch.
According to a recent news release by the Museum, the Chesterfield location will feature a Main Street area designed to emphasize early learning concepts and promote pretend play and social interaction with a bank, grocery store, diner, veterinarian’s office and a fire station with a real fire truck. A three-dimensional tree will be included where kids can pick “apples”. The new location will incorporate a main stage for both performance events and pretend theatre play; an Enchanted Forest toddler area; an Under the Sea area with a water-play station, large climbing structure and a themed train ride; and the Museum’s signature art studio where kids love to create.
The satellite is designed for children up to age 8 and it will offer lots of field trips, summer camps and other interactive events. Children will enjoy birthday parties at the Museum and special events throughout the year. This is the latest CMoR location to open since the Short Pump CMoR opened in 2010. Museum members may use their membership card at all 3 locations.

Also, the Central location is undergoing some renovations and updates. In an effort to continue to create new and innovative learning experiences for museum guests, the front yard area will be undergoing some exciting changes. Over the next few months, CMoR will install an interactive water feature, eating areas and other engaging exhibits for guests to enjoy.
Check back later this spring for opening dates.
