This week starts with school out for most of the area – for President’s Day and our first snowfall in Richmond! Enjoy lots of fun activities and don’t miss the Richmond Kids Expo this coming weekend. STEM Essay Contest – Through February 20 . Virginia First Lady Maureen McDonnell, the Virginia Council on the Status of Women and the Science Museum of Virginia, invite essay submissions from high school junior and senior women on their aspirations for pursuing a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) career. The winner will receive a $5,000 college scholarship and will be announced at the Science Museum of Virginia’s Up & Atom Women’s Leadership Breakfast on May 16, 2012. See website for essay and submission guidelines, due by 3 pm on February 20, 2012. Thank you to SKANSKA, MeadWestvaco, and NewMarket for contributing to the scholarship award.

Richmond Kickers Town Hall Meeting to discuss cost-free summer program. U.S. Soccer Technical Advisor, Chris Brewer, will be hosting a Town Hall meeting on Saturday, February 25 at 5 p.m. at the Richmond Kickers office, located at 2001 Maywill Street, Suite 203 Richmond, VA.  The informational meeting is open to anyone who wishes to learn more about this exciting initiative as well as U.S. Soccer Federation’s plans to move to a 10-month season beginning Fall 2012.
