$100,000 for the “Big Give” is Underway

IMPACT 100’s third annual “Big Give” is underway.

Four local non-profits serving women and children will compete for a $100,000 grant.  The grant comes from local women from all walks of life who pool their resources each year to help a Richmond non-profit. Each IMPACT 100 member donates $1,000, raising $100,000 (or more) for a mutally-agreed upon organization.

The concept behind IMPACT 100 is simple, but effective:

Change the lives of women and their families by transforming a local nonprofit through a significant, collective financial investment.

The four (4) organizations selected as finalists will compete for the grant during a live vote at IMPACT 100’s “Big Give” on May 8. Outlined below is a brief description of how each would put the money to use.

Arts & Culture

Art180
Art180 will establish a youth-run art center located in the downtown Broad Street Arts District to showcase youth talent in all forms of artistic and performance expression. The center will also provide employment skills training opportunities for youth.

Education

Positive Vibe Foundation / Positive Vibe Café

Positive Vibe will improve the lives of persons with disabilities through expansion of training services, a new catering apprenticeship program, and a new staff person dedicated to job placement services.

Family
Boaz & Ruth

Boaz & Ruth is planning a transformational renovation of its flagship training center in the Highland Park neighborhood to help achieve a thriving community. Specifically, renovation of this neighborhood hub will support healthy families and stable individuals by improving classroom and counseling space; upgrading functionality of the community computer lab, and beautifying the exterior of the building.

Health & Wellness

William Byrd Community House

WBCH will integrate healthy nutrition into all of its programming through replacement of its kitchen, which will enable healthy cooking classes for children and families and increased access to fresh food from WBCH’s urban farm.

Each of the finalists offers a compelling description for how they would put the grant to use.  They will make their case to win the grant at Impact 100’s third annual “Big Give,” to be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at the Jewish Community Center. Members will cast a live vote to select the winner at that time.
