American Family Fitness Trains Kids for Special Olympics Virginia

Summer Games is the largest competition for the Special Olympics Virginia – nothing short of legendary thanks to overwhelming support from thousands of local volunteers who brave the summer heat to assist athletes each June. Athletes come from all corners of the state to compete in swimming, power-lifting, softball, track and field, bowling and tennis.

Get ready for the 25 Meter Fun Run and Young Athlete Expo on Saturday, June 9, 2012 too. It’s all for Special Olympics Virginia at the University of Richmond, Robins Stadium Track.

25 Meter Fun Run and Young Athlete Expo

For athletes with an intellectual or developmental disability or autism from ages 2 years old through 12 years old, the 25 Meter Fun Run and Young Athlete Expo on June 9 is an amazing event. Registration includes entry into the 25 meter run run and a commemorative medal, lunch for the athlete and two family members, a chance to participate int he Special Olympics Virginia Olympic Town experience with fun, food, and games.

Space is limited to the first 50 people registered for the event so register early. Registration deadline is Tuesday, May 18, 2012. Visit the website for more information.

American Family Fitness Steps Up!

American Family Fitness is also making it easier for Virginia’s Special Olympics athtletes to stay in shape. Children with developmental disabilities ages 2-7 are invited to participate in Special Olympics Virginia’s New Young Athletes Program. It’s a program that introduces young children with intellectual disabilities and their families to the incredible world of Special Olympics.

Age appropriate activities strengthen physical development and self-esteem for young children. It helps them build skills for future sports participation and socialization prior to Special Olympics competition eligibility.

Classes are the first Sunday of the month from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. for ages 2-7. Dates are May 6, June 3, July 1, August 5, September 2, October 7, November 4, and December 2, 2012.
