Richmondmom.com has always been a supporter of Richmond non-profits, so there’s nothing more exciting to share than a new program aimed at reducing childhood obesity.
Introducing Greater Richmond’s Fit4Kids: a new organization solely focused on improving children’s health and reducing childhood obesity.
Fit4Kids was created to be the organization that works directly with children in the Richmond region and coordinates the effort of other community partners to more effectively take part in this fight for the health and wellness of kids. Improving the health and wellness of children by increasing physical activity and promoting proper nutrition is the main goal!
Mary Dunne Stewart, Executive Director, has a history of success fighting for Virginia kids: she was recognized for her efforts at Voices
for Virginia’s children, helping to improve the outcomes for 8,000 children in foster care, among other milestones.
What’s even more exciting?
They’re building their start-up team. In addition to Mary Dunne Stewart, Program Director Rachel Harms and their impressive Board of Directors, a search is underway for the following positions:
–Two part-time Recess Coaches for the 2012-2013 school year! The “Recess Coach” is a part-time position (25- 30 hours/week) bringing healthy play and physical activity to partner schools to create a positive environment for learning and teaching. This is ideal for a mom seeking a part-time position while the kids are in school. Click here for more information.
–Wellness Integration Specialist for the 2012-2013 School Year. This position is responsible for empowering classroom teachers at a partner elementary school so that they are motivated, skilled, and comfortable integrating physical activity and nutrition information into the core curriculum. Ideal candidate will have a Virginia teacher’s license and experience as an elementary school teacher. Position is open until filled, with interviews in July. For more information, click here.
They’d also like to connect with organizations with a similar focus in the area to make the most of our Richmond Resources, so if you have a group or organization that may wish to partner, click here for more information. There are free health and fitness resources on their site as well.
