July 4th Celebrations and Events

Planning a July 4th Staycation in Richmond and the surrounding area?

Then you’re in for many treats with fireworks, parades, picnics and more. The fun starts the weekend of June 30 and continues through the Independence Holiday. Mark your calendars now and have a blast!

June 30

Huguenot Volunteer Fire Department 4th Annual Independence Day Celebration is Sat. Jun 30th 2012 at 5:00 pm. The event will be held at 2693 Rocky Oak Road in Flat Rock. The celebration features live performances by the local band Everwilde and rising country artist Amber Hayes. Also available are inflatable rides for the kids, which includes a 65’ Water Slide, food and craft vendors, a dunking tank and an awesome fireworks display which can be viewed in 3D that begins at dusk.

Old-Fashioned Fourth of July Celebration. Free fun for the whole family Join us for our spectacular event in celebration of America’s Independence! Enjoy a multi-faceted array of festive entertainment and activities for the entire family. Activities will include musical entertainment, tethered hot-air balloon rides, arts and crafts, face painting, a petting zoo for children, contests and games, and pony rides! Other highlights include a watermelon feast, Uncle Sam on stilts, Jonathan Austin the juggler, a patriotic performance featuring a historic color guard, drum and fife music, and a period musket salute by Living History Associates, Ltd. Tours of Meadow Farm Museum and the Orientation Center exhibits will be available free of charge. Concessions will be available for purchase. Information: Rachel Moore, 501-5134. Parham Road Independence Day Parade – The 3rd Parham Parade and Festival will take place on Saturday, June 30, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. in Richmond, Virginia. The parade will depart from the Trinity Lutheran Church on N. Parham Road and continue through the community. The parade will feature a very special Grand Marshal, holiday floats,marching bands, and much more! This year’s parade is growing and will continue the celebration of community and fun and excitement for all ages!

July 1

Busch Gardens IllumiNights! Busch Gardens celebrates summer with IllumiNights, a nightly extravaganza featuring live performances, music and special effects that culminates in a park-wide firework spectacular. Beginning July 1 through August 19 each country will celebrate IllumiNights in its own way with multiple performances throughout the evening. Fifty nights of fireworks provide a perfect beginning to celebrate July 4 and a perfect ending to a summer evening.

July 3

Brown’s Island RVA Fireworks on the James is a FREE “Patriotic Family Fun” event that will feature performances by SPARC (School of Performing Arts in the Richmond Community), the Richmond Symphony Youth Orchestra and the Richmond Ballet’s “Minds in Motion.” Food Vendors will be on Brown’s Island and the public is invited to bring a picnic (alcohol and pets not permitted) and a blanket or lawn chair to enjoy music simulcast on WRIR-FM, 97.3 during the evening and see the state’s largest fireworks show.

RVA Fireworks at the Virginia War Memorial on the James – Celebrate the birth of our nation, honor those who gave their lives to secure our freedoms and enjoy the greatest view of the city! Come early and bring your lawnchair and picnic, or enjoy our All American food vendor with hamburgs and dawgs! Bring a picnic too. At sundown fireworks commence. Free and family friendly. The Henrico County Community Band plays from 6-7pm in Heilman Amphitheater.

King’s Dominion Fireworks – Top off your Independence Day with roller coasters and fireworks at Kings Dominion. The theme park will host extended fireworks July 3 and 4. There will be military bands, vehicles and personnel. U.S. servicemen and women with valid ID get free admission.

Genworth Independence Day Concert a day early!  Join Genworth on Tuesday, July 3, 2012 to celebrate freedom with the Heritage of America Band. The concert will begin at 6:30pm at Genworth Financial’s World Headquarters located at 6620 West Broad Street. The concert will be immediately followed by our 7th annual fireworks display. Children and adults of all ages are welcome, but please, leave your pets at home. We will have face painting, balloons, giveaways, food vendors and much more. We have plenty of free parking and will be offering transportation between the parking lot and the event site for those who need assistance. This event is free and open to the public. We look forward to seeing you there!

All American Celebration at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden offers FREE ADMISSION to celebrate freedom and to show appreciation to the community. (Please note, free day is on July 4 only.) In the Children’s Garden from 1 – 4 p.m. Happy Lucky Combo performs live music. At 2 p.m. Parade around the Children’s Garden; wear red, white & blue and decorate your wagons, strollers, etc. with materials provided (while supplies last). Other activities in the Children’s Garden include WaterPlay and other favorite features such as Sand Play, the Tree House and International Village.

Ashland July 4th Celebration – It’s an Independence Day tradition. The Ashland 4th of July Celebration, sponsored by the Hanover Arts & Activities Center (the Center), will include a walking parade, patriotic concert, lawn games, an apple pie contest and the ever-popular patriotic pet contest. All events will be held on Wednesday, July 4, 2012.

Boathouse Fireworks July 4th at Sunday Park and a picnic buffet! Our dinner menu will be unavailable for this evening.

Beaverdam Fourth of July Parade – This 5 mile extravagant parade is in it’s 26th year of existence. Food, games, contests, races, vendors and more. The parade starts at 10 am in downtown Beaverdam passes in front of the judges at the Suntrust Bank then meanders past the Beaverdam Elementary School and turns right on Teman road to end at the Beaverdam Ruritan Club where volunteers offer up roast chicken dinners. Tractors, fire trucks, horses, hay wagons, antique cars, girl scouts, ball teams.

Chesterfield County July 4th Celebration – Celebrate our independence with a spectacular fireworks display at dark! The event, held at the Chesterfield County Fairgrounds (across from L.C. Bird High School), includes an activity area for children and special entertainment. No alcohol, glass bottles, pets or personal fireworks, please. Blankets or lawn chairs are recommended. Limited parking; roads leading to fairgrounds will be closed at 9 p.m. or when parking lots are full. Don’t miss this fun-filled event for all ages.

Colonial Downs Racing to the Stars & Stripes – Watch the horse races, catch a concert and watch the fireworks all at once at Colonial Downs. New layout this year. Enjoy 10 horse races followed by a trackside concert & fireworks. Fireworks will be shot midway around the first turn this year & general admission attendees will be allowed access to the dirt track after the races to get a better view of the fireworks display.

Colonial Williamsburg July 4 Celebration – There’s no better place to celebrate independence than the town where so much history was made. Bring your family and spend the holiday with us this  July 4th. As darkness falls, high flying aerial fireworks visible from much of the Historic Area celebrate our nation’s birthday. The best places to see these spectacular fireworks are from Market Square, Palace Green, or the Public Hospital grounds. Parking is available at the Visitor Center but, due to heavy traffic, shuttle bus service to the Historic Area is not available from 8:45 until 10:45. Shuttle bus service is available with or without tickets on the 4th of July. Fireworks begin at 9:15 p.m., and a whole day of special programming precedes them

Dogwood Dell Fourth of July Fireworks – Celebrate the fourth of July with music and fireworks at Dogwood Dell. Susan Greenbaum at 5:30 p.m., Larry Robinson on the Carillon bells at 7 p.m. and the Richmond Concert Band at 7:30 p.m. Fireworks at dusk. Check website for details or changes.

Goochland county fireworks Wednesday, July 4th 2012 Goochland Sports Complex 9 pm. Bring the whole family and enjoy a night under the stars with the community’s favorite event of the year. Park and watch the fireworks from the Goochland County Administration Building, Goochland Elementary, Middle & High School Complex. Admission is FREE! Pack a picnic and bring a blanket. Patriot’s 5K – A 5K Run/walk on the beautiful trails at Robious Landing Park in Midlothian, VA. Celebrate the 4th of July with and for the Wounded Warriors Program.

Science Museum of VirginiaWater Bottle Rocket Challenge on Wednesday, July 4, 11 am-3 pm. Come cheer us on as we attempt to help set a Guinness World Record for water bottle rocket launches! We’ve teamed up with the joint NASA and University of Central Lancashire effort to set the world record for the most number of water rockets launched in one day. We’ll launch rockets 11 am-3 pm and send in our results to be included in the totals collected by the organizers. Included with admission.

Together for Tanzania– We’ve added three large inflatables for kids and will have other fun children’s activities. Walter Bozwell’s band will return to entertain us the entire evening. Good, varied food can be purchased from Gregory’s Grill, and if you’ve ever tried his crab cakes or barbecue, you know just how delicious they are. Great and interesting vendors will be on hand to share their crafts and information. The BEST, BRILLIANT FIREWORKS SHOW will top off the evening at 9:00 p.m.  If you have never been to this beautiful property, you won’t want to miss this event on July 4th. Gently rolling rural land with plenty of room for parking and even larger area for entertainment and fun. Bring your own blanket or chair and expect a wonderful, fun time.
