As a Richmonder, nothing makes Elizabeth Miller more happy than being able to move back to her hometown after dental school and “hanging a shingle” in her hometown. She joined Atkins, Maestrello, Miller and Associates as a partner two years ago and is thrilled to be part of this growing pediatric dental practice in Richmond’s west end.
Elizabeth has always loved children, and grew up teaching kids how to swim at a local swim club and high school. We asked her a few questions about what she does so that you could get to know her, too:
RM: Elizabeth, did you always know that you wanted to be a dentist?
EM: In high school I realized that’s what I wanted to do, and it motivated me to work hard to achieve my goals. I love being back in Richmond and raising my family here and the connections I have with our patients’ families.
RM: What do you do when kids come in literally afraid to sit in your chair?
EM: That’s my greatest gratification of my role–I love teaching kids how to overcome their fear of the dentist. I’m enthusiastic about teaching kids and parents about healthy dental habits, too, and we make it fun! You’ve seen our office, it’s a neat place for families to hang out and we work hard to make it welcoming. Let’s face it–it’s not always exciting to talk about teeth so we’ve got to be creative!
RM: It sure is–we love the Shrek statue! How could any kid not love that? And, now that you’re a mom of a boisterous little boy at home, has it changed your approach to your patients at all?
EM: Absolutely. He kicks and fights with me at home when we brush his teeth, so I have a newfound appreciation for the parents of my patients!
I’ll do everything I can to help them with their “little fighters” and help their little smiles become as healthy as possible.
RM: We can’t wait to see the growth of your office. With all that you do in the Richmond community, you’re sure to go gangbusters!
