Karen Curcio moved to Richmond in the mid-nineties and landed a job in accounting where she’d always focused her career, but when in came time for retirement from the corporate world, she set her sites on something more creative.
After training that allowed her to create draperies for cottages at the Biltmore, she returned to Richmond and opened her business, Sewinit.com.
This not only changed her world from a working in a corporate environment to working in her home–it actually changed her home. She had a bedroom built out into a workroom filled with heavy-duty sewing machines, fabric swatches, threads in every color, pillow forms, and more tools to help her create.
In Karen’s opinion, when the customer starts collaborating with her early on. “It’s always smoother when we
can begin early, together, measure the windows and I can consult on the amount of fabric needed. Often my clients end up buying too much or too little when I could have saved them that trouble of returning to the store.”
In addition to draperies, she creates pillows, tablecloths, table runners, and even children’s blankets and other creations. Pricing is determined upon the size and complexity of the project, and Karen may be contacted via email to estimates. Don’t forget to mention your Savvy Saver card discount for a great discount on her custom work. For creative ideas on a variety of sewing ideas and home interiors, visit her blog:
