While you’re at the September 7-8 NASCAR races at Richmond International Raceway, look for the Virginia 529 Kids Zone for the inside track on the aerodynamics of racing and a chance to explore hands-on exhibits from the Science Museum of Virginia. Hanover Tavern invites the community to experience a night full of fun, dancing, and great alternative rock with The Fredds on Friday, September 7, 2012. The outdoor concert will feature savory barbecue, grilled foods, pasta salad, and drink specials available for purchase from the Hanover Tavern Restaurant and Pub starting at 6:00 p.m. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. music starts at 7:00 p.m

First Friday Jazz Concert – 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. – First Friday Evening Art & Jazz. Art will be provided by the James River Art League. Music will be provided by The Doctors of Jazz, a New Orleans style jazz ensemble. Grow RVA food trucks will rally on Grace Street between 8th and 9th streets. Holt Tobacco Exhibit Opening – The Valentine Richmond History Center announces the opening of its newest exhibit.  The exhibit, a rotation within “Discovering Collections, Making Connections,” features an assortment of items from the Holt Tobacco Collection, including tobacco tins, advertisements, tools, books and cigarette cards. It was collected by Bernard Stuart “Skip” Holt (1932-2011) and donated to the Museum in 2012 by his wife Carol A. Holt.

Cookies for Cancer

Celebrate the Art of Latin America: Brazil.  1pm-4m.  Virginia Museum of Fine Arts – Family Programs.  Experience the jubilee of Carnaval in fall. Enjoy samba music and performances (even learn samba yourself!), watch Capoeira Resistencia (Brazilian martial arts) demonstrations, engage with street performers, feel the rhythm of a Brazilian drum line, and join a parade of Richmond marching bands. Kids and parents can make their own elaborate masks or headdresses, Brazilian tambourines (pandeiros), and a one-of-a-kind ceramic vessel inspired by pre-Columbian art.   For ages 3 – 12, accompanied by an adult.

Baby Extravaganza – Welcome all EXPECTANT parents!  Please join us for an afternoon of fun.  Come out and meet physicians, tour our facility, and learn what Chippenham Pediatrics is all about. Our physicians will be speaking on several topics including infant safety, what to expect in the nursery after delivery, beastfeeding, and vaccines.  We will have local vendors and refreshments. Annual Kirk Celtic Festival – The Gayton Kirk Presbyterian Church, 11421 Gayton Road, Henrico VA 23238, celebrates its Scottish heritage with our Fifth Annual Kirk Festival. Games for all ages including Jonathan Austin the Magician, Celtic Music, Scottish Dancing & Games Demonstration, Va. Scots Guard Bagpipe and Drum Corp, Arts and Crafts vendors, food — including homemade shortbread! There will be a raffle to win an IPad, an Animal Parade at 3:30 followed by a Blessing of the Animals in our Outdoor Sanctuary.

8th Annual Recovery Fest & 3rd Annual BBQ Championship Cook-off – Laurie Dhue, former news anchor of FOX News, CNN, and MSNBC will be the guest speaker at the 8th Annual Recovery Fest & 3rd Annual BBQ State Championship Cook Off. They will have a Kansas City Barbecue Society sanctioned BBQ state championship with over 25 teams competing. Plus live bands, vendors, voter registration, corn hole tournament, and much more.
