Tex-Mex Restaurant Partners with Local Nonprofit Comfort Zone Camp

CHUY’S OPENS AT WEST BROAD VILLAGE

chuysRICHMOND, Va. (April 9, 2013) – Richmonders now can fulfill their Tex-Mex and Creamy Jalapeño Sauce cravings in Short Pump. Chuy’s, an authentic Tex-Mex restaurant known for its large portions and freshly made recipes, opened [on April 9, 2013] at 11229 West Broad Street in West Broad Village.

The new location is the first Chuy’s in Virginia. The unique menu includes a mix of made-to-order enchiladas, chile rellenos, fajitas and burritos, using only the freshest ingredients. Warm tortillas are hand-rolled throughout the day, while sauces like the famous Salsa Fresca are made fresh every hour. A few signature items include Chicka-Chicka Boom-Boom Enchiladas, Big As Yo’ Face Burritos and famous Texas Martinis made with fresh-squeezed lime juice.

“I’ve lived in this community for more than 10 years and have dined at several of our great restaurants. Chuy’s is bringing something new and exciting to the Richmond food scene,” said Ben Scarborough, local Owner, Operator and Richmond resident. “We’re famous for fresh, made-from-scratch Tex-Mex, and our team is excited to introduce our flavors and unique dishes to Richmond.”

The freestanding 8,000-square-foot restaurant features an outdoor patio and several Richmond design elements. For example, the Dog Wall will display more than 100 pictures of local furry residents. The family-friendly restaurant also includes some Chuy’s décor staples, such as metal palm trees, an Elvis shrine and the “Mil Piscado”, a school of 1,000 hand-carved and hand-painted wooden fish hanging in the bar area.

The new restaurant has partnered with Comfort Zone Camp to raise funds at events leading up to its grand opening and will continue to support it throughout the year. The nonprofit transforms the lives of children who have experienced the death of a parent, sibling or primary caregiver through free bereavement camps. Its year-round camps in Richmond and nationwide help children manage grief through confidence-building programs and age-based support groups.

Comfort zone camp Richmond VA“One in seven children will lose a parent or sibling by the age of 20, which means that every community has children struggling to cope with such a loss,” said Lloyd Osgood, Chief Executive Officer at Comfort Zone Camp. “Comfort Zone Camp is committed to providing a place for grieving children to heal and grow. Our camps are free to participants thanks to generous donations from individuals and organizations like Chuy’s. We’re grateful to all those who support this important work in our community.”

Chuy’s will be open seven days a week for lunch and dinner with a weekday Happy Hour from 4-7 p.m., featuring the Fully-Loaded Nacho Car, an unlimited build-your-own nacho station with chips, salsa, queso, taco meat and more.
