James River Art League at Our Lady of Hope Health Center. The James River Art League announces an exhibition and sale of works from 25 Richmond artists from Saturday, May 4th to Thursday, May 30th at the Our Lady of Hope Health Center. This event is free and open to the public. Free event.

They Call it Stormy Weather: How Artists See the Weather and the Seasons. The Museum is open 9:30am-5pm on Memorial Day. Explore artists’ depictions of weather from thunderstorms on powerful, wild seas to sunny skies above spring fields. The photographic reproductions are on loan from the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. Included with exhibit admission.

Puritan Cleaners 100,000 Meals for Kids – Puritan Cleaners partners with the Central Virginia Food Bank & Feedmore each Spring to raise food & funds to help feed kids during the summer months when they are out of school and the need for food increases. This year’s 100,000 Meals collection runs from May 19th to June 8th. Bring your non-perishable food or funds to any Puritan Cleaners location. Every donation is needed and appreciated.

SYMMETREES at The Science Museum of Virginia. The Museum is open 9:30am-5pm on Memorial Day.Photographer and sculptor John Moser shares his unique view of fallen trees in Central Virginia forests by capturing their photos, then enhancing them so that the images take on a life of their own. Happy Memorial Day!
Virginia War Memorial Celebration – Head to the Virginia War Memorial for their annual Memorial Day service including a guest speaker, patriotic music, wreath laying and a playing of Taps. Governor Bob McDonnell is the invited speaker.
Memorial Day Festivities in Sandston. The American Legion Sandston Post 242 is hosting several ceremonies and events in honor of our veterans, especially those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our nation. This year’s theme is “Thanks To Our Veterans”.
Commonwealth’s Memorial Day Celebration 10am-11am. Honor and remember heroes. This event is an inspirational tribute dedicated to the proposition that Freedom is Never Free and includes patriotic music, memorial wreath laying and the playing of Taps. Governor Bob McDonnell is the invited speaker. Free, open to the public and ample free parking. Rain or shine.
Carillon in Byrd Park Memorial Day Celebration – The public is invited to attend the City’s free Memorial Day Concert at the Carillon in Byrd Park on Monday, May 27 at 4 p.m., according to a release. The concert, hosted by the Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities, will feature a vocal performance by soprano Lisa Edwards-Burrs, associate professor of voice at Virginia State University who has performed extensively in recital, oratorio and chamber music. She will be joined by classical/jazz pianist Russell Wilson, who has also enjoyed a distinguished career as a soloist and chamber musician, as principal pianist for the Richmond Symphony, and performing with the Russell Wilson Quartet and the Smithsonian Jazz Orchestra.
Stony Point Fashion Park free concert from Class Act from 1- 5 p.m. Bring a suit for the kids to enjoy playing in the water fountain. You can also enjoy lunch or an early dinner from Stony Point restaurants like Chipotle or Panera and fro-yo from the new Sweet Frog.
Memorial Day Commemoration at Pamplin Park. Events include an artillery demonstration, color bearers, and the playing of TAPS in commemoration of fallen soldiers.
The Thomas Jefferson High School Corps of Cadets Alumni Band will offer an informal concert of patriotic music in the Shrine of Memory at the Virginia Memorial Day. Free. 2 p.m.
Commemorate Memorial Day with a tour of historic 18th & 19th century cemeteries in Richmond’s East End, including St. John’s Church, the African Burial Ground, Shockoe, Hebrew, Oakwood, and Woodland Cemeteries and several others. Innsbrook After Hours. Returning to its roots, the concert series will take place on 22 consecutive Wednesday evenings, beginning May 1st. Gates open at 5:00pm, and concert-goers will be introduced to a significantly expanded food court with seating and pre show specials, as well as a marketplace with entertainment for patrons to enjoy prior to the show.

Mike the Knight Charges into Short Pump Town Center. Two appearances: 11am and 1pm. Mike the Knight and his friends are galloping into Shortpump Town Center for special live performances of Mike the Knight and the Mission for Hidden Treasure. The free 20-minute interactive musical adventure will also feature Mike’s dragon, Squirt, from the beloved television series on Nick Jr., and includes meet & greets, photo opportunities, giveaways, and a preview of the first Mike the Knight toys from Fisher-Price.
Varina Day. The Varina Ruritan Club, in cooperation with Henrico County Division of Recreation and Parks, is hosting its 18th Annual Varina Community Day. Come out and celebrate the community! Live performances will be featured on stage throughout the day. Children’s activities include a petting zoo, face painting, a moonwalk, and more.

Be the Match Walk+Run. Each year, thousands of patients need a marrow transplant, but have no donor match in their family. They depend on Be The Match to help them find an unrelated marrow donor and receive treatment. The cure for blood cancer is in the hands of ordinary people – your hands The Richmond Be The Match Walk+Run is Saturday, June 1 and will include a 5K, 1K, and Tot Trot.

Mountain Road Exhibit Fest – Sun, Jun 2, 1-4pm at Walkerton Tavern. Come enjoy art and history in a variety of exhibits. The festival will feature unique art and history exhibits on display in four historic sites along Mountain Road in Glen Allen. Displays will be located at the Virginia Randolph Museum, Walkerton Tavern, The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen, and Meadow Farm.
