Summer is even more fun than ever with James River Explorer Summer Enrichment Camp.
This program encourages hands-on learning with the use of magnifying glasses and river water test kits to make it even more exciting for kids. They can learn about wildlife habitats and animals on the riverfront. They can observe blue heron, the peregrine falcon nest, and the anadromous fish of the James River. And this is just the beginning of their adventure!
“James River Explorer” Summer Enrichment Camp (sponsored by the Richmond Walks and History Programs) is half day weekly camp for rising 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders who seek science/social studies enrichment in the great outdoors.
Sites visited and explored include:
- Richmond Riverfront and Historic Canals
- Historic Tredegar Visitor Center
- Virginia State Capitol
- Virginia Museum of Fine Art
- Virginia Historical Society
It’s truly an amazing one-of-a-kind type of camp experience for kids who love being outdoors. The Director/Lead Guide, Annie Homans Johnson, earned a B.A. from Randolph Macon College and MLA from University of Richmond. Her experience as a teacher and guide in outdoor and museum education for over 20 years makes her extremely knowledgeable about Richmond, the historical canal system, and the great natural resource of our grand city – The James River.
