Celebrate MLK Day of Service January 20, 2014

MLK DayMartin Luther King said it best when he asked, “What are you doing for others?”

Monday, January 20, 2014 is officially recognized as MLK Day of Service. It’s a time when people across the country answer that important question by performing services for others. Helping out friends, neighbors, and those who need a  hand is a simple way to memorialize Dr. King’s dreams and to demonstrate the simple act of kindness to children.

While many businesses and governmental agencies close their doors on MLK Day of Service, it’s not a day off but a day of service. Hundreds of thousands of people across the country will come together in communities for service. And many thousands in RVA will do the same. It’s not too late to create your plan to serve either!

  • HandsOn Greater Richmond offers lots of opportunities to serve. Click here to learn more about them.
  • In addition to the live, local conversations, participants across the country will be connecting online via Twitter (#MLKDay2014) and Facebook to share their experiences, perspectives and insights, generating a national dialogue.
