Are you looking for a fun summer activity in the great outdoors? Check out the 2nd Annual Sweet Corn Festival on Saturday, July 19th from 10am to 5pm. This festival, hosted by Gallmeyer Farms, promises family fun, entertainment and of course, the sweetest corn.

Steve Gallmeyer, a 3rd generation farmer says, “We believe in family at Gallmeyer Farms. We consider family budget as part of that, so our festivals are always free. Free festival, free parking, free entertainment, free picnic area and free play area.” The farm will be selling corn “by the ear” and watermelon, cantaloupe and honeydew by the slice. The on-site Veggie Stand will also sell fresh local produce. Steve notes that families are welcome to bring a picnic (including coolers and chairs) to enjoy with their produce purchased from the farm. Fire pits will also be available to roast corn and any other foods you might enjoy roasted. Various vendors will also be selling food as well as crafts.

New this year is an impressive line-up of live music:

10:00-11:15 am                  Nick Smith

11:45-1:00 pm                    Amy Ladd

1:30-2:45 pm                      Southern Comfort Band

3:15-4:30 pm                      Heart of Country with Mark Daniel

Hay rides and pony rides will get your little ones up and moving. In addition to the free play area for children, this year will also highlight a “Country Kid Splash Puddle”. If you are not sure what a Country Kid Splash Puddle is, here are a few hints: it might be cool, it might be refreshing, and it might be a little messy! The RVA Local Patronage Mob, sponsored by C&F Bank, will be distributing $5.00 cash to the first fifty guests arriving at the Sweet Corn Festival. Cash Mob money is redeemable at The Veggie Stand with a minimum $5.00 purchase.

I hope to see you there!
