There are always fun things to do at area pumpkin patches (see our list of Pumpkin Patches here.)
But here are some great ways to celebrate Halloween around Richmond. Consider calling ahead or checking websites before bringing young kids to some of these scary attractions.
Howl-o-Scream
6pm-10pm at Busch Gardens, Williamsburg. At 6pm, there are serious scares when Busch Gardens becomes a more menacing place. –Read our review here.
Halloween Haunt at Kings Dominion
This year the horror grows to epic proportions with the addition of a new Haunt attractions. Test your fears in the all-new maze, Maze of Madness, or check out three new live shows throughout the night. No matter what you decide we know you will be screaming for more!
Ghosts & Grisly Stories -River City Segs
Looking to spend a spine-chilling evening with family and friends? Glide through the ghoulish and gruesome tales of Richmond with River City Segs and join us as we tour the most paranormal spots and return to the scene of some of the most terrifying incidents in Richmond’s sorted history. This spooky Segway tour will explore the mysterious death of George Wythe, the apparition and physical remnants of a North Carolina banker who fell to his death from Old City Hall, the tormenting of Lincoln’s face on pennies at a former Civil War hospital and much more. 2-hours and approximately 8 miles
Blood Lake
Three terrifying attractions at Blood Lake this year. So terrifying in fact, that children under 9 are not admitted. Visit Grimm’s Reapers, Sandman’s Nightmare and Z-Alamo… and be ready to scream.
Creepy Hallow Scream Park
More monsters, more frights and more fun! Each night we have well over 50 live actors monsters, incredible animatronics, amazing illusions and acres of screams. Join us for Richmond’s legendary Creepy Hollow Hayride and dare to venture into Scream Forest, the most intense haunt in Virginia! We are located just 10 minutes from Short Pump and are open select nights in October.
Petersburg Haunts
Find out why Petersburg is such a “spirited” city and visit some of the town’s most historic buildings.The leisurely one-hour walk takes you through 400 years of history, legends, untimely deaths, and—of course—ghosts. Lantern-carrying, costumed guides will lead you through beautiful, historic Petersburg, and stop at many of the city’s fine buildings.
Eerie Nights Ghost Tour
Eerie Nights is a theatrical story telling experience where guides in character, special effects make-up and costume tell you the history and paranormal activity associated with several historical and haunted locations. Expect to discover a part of Richmond’s history that will surprise you, thrill you, and we promise – scare you enough to leave you wanting more!
Ghouls Ghost Tour
Ghouls Tour is a theatrical story telling experience and stops at different sites from our sister tour Eerie Nights. Ghouls ghost tour is a trolley tour, and a veritable show on wheels.
Step back in time on this trolley tour with your Ghoul Guide, a ghost from 1920’s Richmond. Ghouls Ghost Tour involves a 1hr stroll to multiple sites, while your Ghoul Guide tells tales about each location.

Wear your favorite costume and join Taylor, a fun and friendly mascot, for a fun-filled night of flashlight toy & candy hunts, trick-or-treat community booths, games and a drive in movie, featuring the popular Monster House. Kids can also move and groove in Taylor’s ‘Lil’ Frankenstein’s Monster Mash Bash’ dance area. Concession items and novelty food items will be available for purchase. Be sure to bring your FLASHLIGHT and TRICK or TREAT Bag!

Zombies walk to benefit the American Heart Associaion, kids make fall crafts on the sidewalk, and trick or treating is welcome in all stores with the pumpkin sign in their windows.
Safe Trick or Treating will officially be from 12-5pm, though some merchants may continue after that. Look for the pumpkin sign in the window that says “come in for Scarytown treats”
Scott’s Addition Pumpkin Festival

Delicious PUMPKIN inspired dishes with your favorite local restaurants and vendors. Orange Cotton Candy, Pumpkin spice funnel cake, deep fried oreos, deep fried twinkies- all sorts of delicious treats.

Pumpkins will be everywhere! Grab one from the pumpkin patch to be painted and decorated, bowled down the field, or launched into the lake with our Punkin’ Dunkin. Bring your pumpkins down to our trebuchet and let it rip to see how far you can launch them.
Lookout for festival staples like pony rides, petting zoos, and bouncy houses with fun live entertainment. Also, enjoy some season festivities, including costume contests and a straw bale maze. Fill up with an assortment of food from BBQ and kettle corn to gyros and souvlaki. There will also be candy for children to pick up and practice their trick or treating and adult brews.
Haunted History

Come hear the tales of those who came before us and that may still be among us. We will share some tales and show how the dead were remembered with death mask, hair jewelry and memorial buttons.

the Richmond Flying Squirrels will host our fourth annual Squirreloween event. This is a free event held at The Diamond to offer a fun and safe trick-or-treating option for local families. Fans can trick-or-treat through our suites, take hayrides around the field, play games and crafts and take part in a costume contest. Food and drink will be available for purchase from your favorite local food trucks including Joey’s Hot Dogs and Mosaic.

The 17th Street Farmers’ Market welcomes the La Plaza Farmers Market to Shockoe Bottom for an authentic celebration of this beloved Mexican holiday. Frightmares Newest Haunted Attraction in Town will be located on the Upper level near JCPenney and Entrance 2. Think once, think twice before you enter! Monster Mash

Dorey will be transformed into a mad science lab to celebrate the hair-raising fun of fall with Frankenstein and Igor at this year’s Monster Mash event! Watch science come to life with performances by Mad Science of Central VA and feel your way through the creepy crafty “Sensational Laboratory.” Outside, take a trip to the pond for the newly designed “Haunted Trail” and sit around the fire to hear spooky stories and drink cider. Eerie Canal Tours

Venture Richmond hosts a very special night of FREE hauntingly-narrated canal boat tours complete with free candy for the little ones! Special 30-minute tours leave every half hour (on the hour and half hour) from 6:00-9:00 p.m., with the last boat departing at 8:30 p.m. Boats depart from the Canal Turning Basin at 14th and Dock Streets.
The Eerie Canal Tours feature haunting tales of Richmond’s past as passengers travel down the historic KanawhaCanal, drifting through the spooky sights and sounds of Richmond’s oldest and most historically haunted districts. Thecanal is decorated for Halloween like you’ve never seen before, and little ghouls and ghosts in attendance will receive a special candy treat. It’s a Halloween event for the whole family! Pumpkin Madness Weekend

Chesterfield Berry Farm.
Pumpkin Madness Weekend is the Chesterfield Berry Farm grand finale to the fall festival season and another exciting chance to spend quality time with your family. This is a new and unique opportunity to be green by recycling and “repurposing” your Jack-O-Lanterns as well as our left over pumpkins into feed for livestock.
Hundreds of pumpkins will be destroyed(recycled)!
All fall activities will be offered during Pumpkin Madness Weekend including Zombie Paintball, Hayrides, the Fun Zone, Corn Cannon, concessions and much more.
